    You are an absolute legend! After spending two hours trying to fix my Epson 9800 Printer that I have had for 6yrs, I tried your method with Windex and it worked! I am so happy, I can't thank you enough, and I have so many orders to send out for Christmas. I tried the usual Maintenance cleans but nothing was working. I know my printer pretty well and I thought for sure it was something serious. This worked so well, my hands are covered in black ink and I've never been happier! Thank you again :)

    OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you so much for this. I have an Epson 9880 and love it. But for over a year, my nozzle print test pattern has not been printing cleanly. I would run the head cleaning over and over. Even did a couple of Power cleanings along the way. But there were always broken lines in the test pattern. I could use the printer and it would print just fine for a few pieces. Then I would start to notice the banding again and do another head cleaning, not realizing that all of these head cleanings were just adding more ink to the problem .. not to mention wasting hundreds of dollars in ink (maybe thousands) over the past couple of years. I stumbled across your video and figured "what have I got to lose?"
    Last night, I did as you showed in the video. I used 'Glass Plus' because that is what I had in the house. I left it over night. This morning, the paper towel had a big blotch of ink on it. I ran the nozzle print test. For the first time in maybe 2 years, the test was perfect. I then proceeded to print a batch of prints. They look GREAT!!
    The one thing you didn't show in the video was how to get the print head to the middle of the printer and free-floating. I did it simply by powering up the printer and then when the head moved to the middle during power up, I quickly unplugged the printer. The print head was then free-floating.
    Thanks again!!!!

    Andy, you are a genius! After not using my 4800 printer for over a year, the head was severely clogged and several power cleanings would not fix it. Tried your technique, let it sit overnight, turned it on and did a nozzle check and it worked perfectly! As good as new! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

    Thanks Andrew, that was with an Epson 3800. It turned out the photo black ink had dried up inside the cartridge and none was getting out. Replacing that cartridge (which read at >60% capacity) fixed the problem temporarily until the same issue happened again.
    I've since upgraded to the Epson Pro 3880

    I've watch your video and several other on youtube about cleaning the the Epson pro 4000.
    Since mine had clogged heads and all non-invasive cleaning failed to help I decided to try dissassembly and direct cleaning,
    I've cleaned my heads getting a full waterfall on each color head then re-assembled. After restarting and running a power clean, I had NO patterns. Suspecting that I made an error, I disassembled again and found that the grounding fork was pushed inside the case so re-aligned the fork and reassembled. Still no patterns after this second attempt. So as a last attempt, I filled all my cartridges to the top, disassembled, cleaned the heads again (stream is fine), primed each color by using a syringe (fine), re-seated the two ribbon cables, re-seated the fork and reassembled. Again, still not pattern.
    The printer reports no errors and seems to be operating normally.
    It seems that the inks are not being pumped since I see no ink movement in the tubes.
    Did I miss something in assembly, is the pump now bad or is it possible the the entire heads in not bad?

    @idscheij He uses Simple Green. In Australia it's called Morning Fresh. It's a neutral dishwashing liquid that they've diluted with water.

    I did as you said this morning, with the Windex-soaked cloths completely saturated with ink. Unfortunately it looks like there isn't any black ink coming through at all. Only 7 of the 8 inks show on the nozzle check pattern

    Dave, not sure which printer you have, but, ...if on a 900 series printer like the 4900, change from Photo Black to matte black and check your nozzles..doing a nozzle check, then switch back. This sometimes takes care of your black. Also, you MAY have to do this a few times.

    Trying this right now on my 3800... I just put my hand in the way and stopped it as it swiped back and forth during the startup routine. The LCD displayed a paper jam error but the head was able to glide freely back and forth. Letting it sit unplugged overnight now.

    Being that the Epson 4000 is a printer, when you demonstrated removing the cutting blade, are you using this machine as a die cut/vinyl cutter/plotter machine?

  • @danielbrevick

    there is a small green tab next to the cutter/scissors label, pull it forward, then (as indicated in this video) there is a depressible screw (spring loaded?) you need to reach up and to the right a little. This will unlock it pull it forward a bit while holding it down and then release the depressible screw. funny this one little detail isn't covered any where on line...

    Hi Andy
    I am very interested in your solution, because I have bad nozzles. In the video you mention that you take papersheets drensed with 'green'. Is what i could make out of it, but I don't know the word (dutch-girl) I heard something about ammonium, but that is all. What did you use in the sheets??
    Thnks Ida

    Can you please tell me which type of simple green you use to clean the nozzle? How much solution do you put on towel and do I have to dilute it with water or some other liquid? Also is it possible to use something else than simple green (e.g. jar, pur or similar)?

  • @andrewfrausini4217
    @andrewfrausini4217 12 лет назад

    We never used Simple Green. We were told by clients that it too works straight..no dilution. We use WINDEX. NON FOAMING meaning the old fashion windex.

    pull the plug when the head is in the middle of the printer.

  • @andrewfrausini4217
    @andrewfrausini4217 12 лет назад

    I would imagine the same way but no idea. If you can't get your head out of the parked position like we did here, simply turn your printer on and when the head moves to the middle of printer, pull the plug. Then you should be able to do this with your 10600.

    You could try looking at our video on cleaning the 900 series printers. It is basically the same as what you see here but a little different.
    Go to our other youtube video. Just type in nozzle clog on the search and you'll see us there. The last part of the url is watch?v=lU6PbizbKaw

    doing this for an Epson 3800, I cant get the head over the paper towel - it just pushes it out of the way. the head seems to go down all the way - how did you get the head to glide over the towel?? really need this to work

    If I tried the paper towel method 5 times and still no magenta, what should I do next? I can tell I still have a bunch of magenta ink still in the cartridge? It just seems like nothing comes out. When I take the cartridge out of the printer, it looks like the magenta ink is available (IE primed?? - it glistens where the hole is where it is supposed to be coming out) I've done numerous deep cleanings and I have tried the windex paper towel method. I am so frustrated! I love my printer, but I have never gotten the magenta to print! Thanks for any suggestions! I have the Epson Stylus Pro 7800.

    HELP!! Hi I need some advice. I'm thinking of getting the 7800 second hand. How many prints can the printer do before things start to go wrong? I look at printers like cars, the more mileage the more worn out parts. The one I'm looking at is quite cheep but has done 31405 in the total pages..a lot!! but I don't mind if the printer can keep going for another 20,000 odd pages. Just don't wont to get a printer that will need parts 4/5 months down the line. many thanks for any advice

    Hello, I clean nozzle clog throughout the week, day by day on my 9900. I have problem only with yellow cloggs. After cleaning (power or normal or pairs) broken lines on printed test always moved to another position, but only in yellow. I call to tech, he would change ink selector and then maybe printer head too. What do you mean? For any advice I am very grateful.

    The trick is....set your machine to SHEET (even if you have roll in it) and then line it up and let the machine get it set to print. Once it is saying ready, switch it back to roll! i have a 9800 and have just changed all the ink today as I ran out. It worked well, but now I could cry, as ink has literally disappeared - very splotchy. It looks like the new ink is not running thro now.I have done a clean, and a couple of nozzle checks - but haven't tried to clear nozzle clogs(not sure what that stuff is - I'm in NZ)& your printer is slightly different, so a little bit nervous to try. would appreciate some help! cheers

    no, it has ammonia in it which releases a gas the dilutes the clog.
