    CONTRALTO SHOUT OUTS!!!!! I'm a contralto as well. My range is F2-F5 -- freakish, I know! I use to be so ashamed of my voice in undergrad and so frustrated with my voice in graduate school. I dropped out of grad school and took a 13 year hiatus from performing and taught music and chorus in private school and college. I decided to go back to graduate school to finish my masters, and it was there that I fell in love and appreciated my voice type. Now, I'm preparing to go get my Doctor of Musical Arts. I love that I'm a rare bird! I can kind of carve my own path when it comes to being a recitalist.

      @@80-d28 I'm glad to have finally found someone who understands what it's like to have a voice which is in the same vocal range and timbre of a young teenage guy. I sound like a 13-year old baritone. And you are shorter too, I am short as well. I can reach down to A2 in chest voice but I have a bass extension and can phonate down to E2 and rasp down to C#2. For adult vocal ranges I tested myself and I'm in between counter-tenor and low tenor. I describe myself as half-tenor, half-bass. I can sing the third octave with tenor brightness, and once I hit F#2 I sound like a bass. I don't have the voice quality of a contralto, and not even the voice quality of a contralto profundo. That lady's voice is undoubtedly lovely and captivating, but I don't feel contralto describes my voice. And how you're describing your voice I don't think contralto describes your voice either.

      @@80-d28 That's amazing you can sing in full chest voice until F2 and that you have a powerful G2. And you singing up to G5 and vocalizing down to A1, simply wow. I can assure you that I'm not a contralto. I have both the vocal range and timbre of a 13-year old baritone. My chest voice breaks at about E4, I have a weak G4 in mid voice and while I can strain up to G5, it sounds awful. My voice cracks in the fourth octave. My speaking voice is mostly in the high male range. That is great you're proud of being a contralto.

    Really like Sonia Prina too :) Have you heard her?
    For me, I struggle with high notes terribly. Can probably give a better G2 than anything near the 5th octave and I do try -.- (A2-A4 is what I stick to normally, I sing tenor2 but I'd much prefer not to categorized by any male vocal types!) God made us all different and I love singing :) Just wish I was better at it!

      Seikus Arus si es asi eres una contralto dramatica de fantasticos graves (quizas alguna cuerda mas gruesa que lo comun) y seguramente tengas ademas muy rica sonoridad, color y calidez ademas de un mayor peso vocal, espero que cultives esa interesante voz, saludos y suerte.

    I can only make a little sound on G2. C3 is alright to me. it's also hard for me to take D5....I heard Sonia Prina. A very good opera singer but her voice seems to me a bit lighter than this one.

    • @darrianmcneil3481
      @darrianmcneil3481 4 года назад

      I will say androgynous not truly a man I can still tell she s lady if you listen hard enough she got some male tenor quality but if you listen hard she also got a deep feminine matronly voice.

  • @LucasGomes-em2bk
    @LucasGomes-em2bk 12 лет назад

    Dramatic doesn't really refer to tessitura. Its more to do with timbre and volume. None the less her voice is unusually dark. I wonder if there is a reason Russian contraltos and basses tend to sing at a lower register then, lets say, English ones. mmm.

  • @PFG666
    @PFG666 12 лет назад

    I think many women nowadays have a tendency to lament being in the lower ranges, perhaps they associate upper ranges with... greater feminism. As a man though, I absolutely prefer lower ranged/deeper voices in women.

    It sounds like a barytenor!

    • @darrianmcneil3481
      @darrianmcneil3481 4 года назад

      Replay it over and over I can still tell it's a woman even though she is a dramatic contralto her timbre is androgynous but it's about timbre not pitch per'se . There are women that can go low as her or as men and still not sound androgynous or not a man . Instead of listening to pitches in voices listen to timbre

  • @EmilyGloeggler7984
    @EmilyGloeggler7984 12 лет назад +2

    I disagree. I don't think her voice is masculine at all. If one listens carefully, one can tell the timbre is still vastly different than that of a man's timbre. She just is able to sing low.

    • @bradycall1889
      @bradycall1889 6 месяцев назад

      You can indeed hear a woman when listening closely enough but at first listen it can sound masculine to the untrained ear.

    I'm a mere G2 to C6 (C6 after a lot of warming up.) but am a lot more comfortable in the lower range. I'm singing this an octave lower than the singer. The high notes on this hurt my throat.

      @alexandergarcia227 8 лет назад

      me too

    • @2957485
      @2957485 7 лет назад

      Perhaps then this shows that you shouldn't be singing with your 'throat'. Vocal freedom is supported by the diaphragm and an open throat. Tight throats indicate a technical training still to be understood and practised. Looking at your range, it will be well you do full-octave warm-ups rather than the usual half-tones most mortals are put through. Full-octave warm-ups free your voice and you will not end up exhausted by the end of it.
