Can't have too many videos from Winfield!!! Fabulous bluegrass festival that John McCutcheon said is not a festival but more a gathering of the tribes, the ultimate in extended families. Incredible jams going on 24/7 throughout the campgrounds. Steve Smith is a great picker I've never heard of before, & there's about 5,000+ more like him at Winfield.
Winfield was great. unfortunately I didn’t get tons of videos because I didn’t want to subject the mandolin to the elements too much but had an event the following week that the mandolin needed to go to.
Just a suggestion but a short narrative video on what you know about the history and provenance of this mandolin might make a nice addition to you video collection?
Emily here. I am working on an article about the mandolin itself and its history. it hasn’t solidified in a way I like yet. I am thinking when I have time off later in the month I’ll get it more organized
@@thekarasikmandolinproject1195 If the back was cut off for the retro-fit, on the back if the body points look cut "as they are doverailed in" That is the for sure way to tell by comparing the body point dovetail on the top side and back side. Also the back binding as a whole would be a touch thinner than the top binding due to the thickness of the thin saw blade they used. I'm very curious Emily as I have a 24 Loar H-5 and a 24 Loar F-5 and they were retro-fitted. Very Fine sounding Loar you have, I love the Virzi tone+voice. Many don't as its not say in your face upfront, but they to me have a way better tone and outward project just as good as a non-virzi. God Bless
I think it probably is a retrofit. You should send me an email. I want to put together a video with other Loars for its signing date next month and a mandola would be so cool to have. My email is mandofiddleem@gmail.com

Orville and Lloyd would be proud!
👍👍👍
So was the back sawed off and the Virzi put in "retro-fitted" Or was it added before build? Love it! God Bless
Emily here. I think so but am not for sure. Some luthiers that have looked at it and said yes and others have said no.
