That said though, it usually takes several generations to see a tangible result which is why when talking about this sort of thing, people usually bring up an example from some dynasties, such as the Habsburgs since the dynasties seem to inbreed among themselves more often than common people and they usually had records of themselves, Just look up Charles II of Spain, he was the best example of what continuous incestous spree can do to a human being. Still, your point still stands, sort of, you can breed animals or plants with similar traits (and likely similar genetic make up to create such traits) to get that specific traits you want since it is usually simpler than doing it by genetic engineering. I don't know about plants though but some animals which are bred for specific traits can end up with health issues, just look at the pugs!
