Thanks, Charles, for posting both sides of this excellent compilation of Christmas classics! This side has the big hits by Bobby Helms and Buchanan & Goodman, but also plenty of obscurities. Cathy Sharpe (real name Cathy Shropshire) recorded "North Pole Rock" (b/w "Will Santa Come to Shanty Town") on the small Global label out of Bakersfield, CA in December of 1960, apparently her only recording (I wonder why?). I'm glad Rhino included both sides of the Moonglows' 1953 Christmas release on Chance (see side 1). "Who Says There Ain't No Santa Claus" by Ron Holden and the Thunderbirds from the Donna label is truly a rarity! The Rockin' Stockins, also known as Billy Lee Riley and the Little Green Men, were Jimmy Wilson (organ), Martin Willis (sax), Billy Lee Riley (guitar), J. M. Van Eaton (drums), Pat O' Neil (bass), and put out this single on Sun (b/w "Rockin'-Lang-Syne") in 1960. (Marvin Phillips and Emory "Johnny" Perry) recorded Marvin's composition "It's Christmas" for Aladdin in late 1958, and I think it's a great finale to this festival of holiday favorites!

IIRC Bobby Helms got lucky and had a good-sized hit with "Special Angel". They cut "Jingle Bell Rock" which rang register bells for 60 years now!
