- End of the season cleanout and declutter, starting with lip products! This year I've been focused on using up products. In 2012, I did my very first makeup inventory. The sheer amount of makeup I had acquired over the years was mind-boggling and eye-opening to say the least.
The journey I've been on for the past two years is more than just cleaning out a stash of old makeup, it really has been a lifestyle change. Things I saw and experienced while traveling last year also changed me and my priorities in life forever.
One one hand, makeup is a passion of mine, an enjoyable hobby and way to artistically express oneself, emotions and moods. On the other hand, I'm no beauty guru or pro makeup artist, so I felt it was unrealistic for me to hoard a massive makeup collection only to risk having products expire.
My approach to downsizing is to focus on balance and priorities rather than short term restrictions and no buys. I've found this method works the best for me.
Back in 2012, I wrote a list of my "ideal" makeup collection. I don't know where my inventory stands as of right now, but I hope to reach my "ideal" by the end of this year. :)

You inspired me from your last declutter videos. I had almost 200 lipsticks, now I have about 20. My gloss collection was at about 100, now I have 10. As for lip liners, I went from about 30 to 12. It felt so good downsizing, I was only using less than a quarter of what I had, such a waste. I need very little and want to keep it that way now. I no longer buy into the hype of great new products, there is no temptation there for me. It comes down to greed and excessive buying, when I took a good look at what I had and realized I never used it, I got a big reality check ! I will be a minimalist forever now, once you do a big declutter you feel better inside knowing you are going to use up what you have. Thank you for your inspiration Christine, you've made me appreciate just having necessary items and keeping it minimal xoxoxo

I have 9 lip lipsticks, 1 gloss, 1 mac prep/prime and 4 lip liners. All thanks to YOU my dear! I pass things along much faster now and not all to the same person...lord knows, I don't want to encourage someone to take it if they're not gonna use it either. I recently have been watching makeup decluttering videos and your big decluttering videos are referenced in almost every one of them!!!
Love all your decluttering videos. I recently cleaned out my lipstick stash too. I now have 37 lip sticks, 7 chubby pencils, 3 lipliners, 7 lip gloss and 5 lip balms. Whoo hoo!
Hi Christine! I woke up with 51 lipsticks this morning (including the ones in my make up bag), but after watching you here, I got rid of 9 lipsticks plus one lip gloss. I have 7 lip liners and would like to get rid of a couple, but could not decide. :) I also got rid of a couple high lighters I wasn't using. Very happy with the clean out! I love you clearing out / collection series. It just really helps me rein in and stop my shopaholic ways that gets to me when i feel like I want to buy something new. I know I don't need it.
Thank you for making these videos. I've been wasteful and irresponsible not only with makeup but with "stuff/material possession" in general. You have inspired me to be better and live a less stuff less stress life style and I'm loving it. I don't want to be wasteful and over whelmed with "stuff/material possessions" anymore. Please keep making more of these videos because when I have a moment of weakness I just watch one of your videos and I'm back on track.
Your decluttering vids inspired me to take a look at my collection. My birthday present to myself next month is to finally do some serious editing. The teenager up the street is very excited about this!! Linda

I've been watching your clean out series since it began, I love it. It's so refreshing to someone hold themselves accountable for the makeup they own, and it's great that you recycle and pass on the makeup. More beauty gurus need to take after you!

Im absolutely so proud of you for having only 30 plus lip products when i think of your old declutter videos with your army of mac lipsticks! I had a long phase where i kept buying lip products and now i dont know what to do with most of them. I cant bear to declutter most of them because they aren't bad, just that they dont excite me so ill tell myself that i will 'use them up eventually', and we all know how long it takes to actually use something up. Its probably some childhood conditioning but its really hard getting over the 'not wasting' mentality. (I even stash scraps of fabric because i will 'use them someday')
Hi Christine! I am so proud of you!!! Great job! I am at the point now where I have very little, and I am extremely happy! One thing I found is that every time I bought a new lipstick or gloss, a lot of the colors were exactly the same!!! Realizing to myself that it was a big waste of money for me! Now, my money goes to a new kayak, clothes when needed, vacations and peace of life :) I have 4 lip pencils all in the different color families that way whatever color is happening, I adjust it with pencils..I have 5 lipsticks, and 4 glosses. I have 3 eye shadow palettes with every color family in those too... That's all I need! I also find that having a tiny inventory, I go through them really quickly and I enjoy the purchase more frequently for restocking if that makes sense!? The shopping experience is a lot more fun that way! I don't have to feel stressed to use them up bc I have 500 items! That's what works for me personally! Great job! oxoxo bea
Love your declutter videos, these were some of the first videos that I started watching on youtube. I get what you were saying about the buying frenzy from watching youtube, and makeup comes in such cute little packages and it fun to apply, the same thing happened to me.
It's good that you cleaned out and decluttered your collection. I've seen girl's have 200 or more lipsticks on YT, and I don't know how or if they really use what they have. Dr. Oz did a show years ago that all makeup have a shelf life, and all makeup should be discarded within a year or less. A video he showed revealed live microorganisms, little worm like creatures living in items like lipsticks and other make up. I've have been guilty of keeping a Mac lipstick passed the shelf life too lol, but I'm working on it.

U do have some beautiful colors. I just started trying to get some makeup together. Haven't been into it for several yrs now. I been fighting cancer. I still have to do treatment. But starting to try to get back into wearing it more. It makes me feel so much better about myself. I don't have a lot and sure I will not be able to get a lot. No funds. But do love watching videos I just discovered in utube. Guess u have been somewhere else. Because I am loving watching and learning. It even teaches me not to go over board too. But it does make u want to go buy some if what u see. I love eye pallets. Never really had any of those. But I love to organize and live watching the videos thanks so much for sharing.

I have 23 lip products total (glosses+lipsticks etc). I would love love love to cut it down to 5 but gah, I do love a lot of them D: to be fair though, originally my lipstick collection filled up 2 whole sections in my muji drawers and I finally cut it down to 1 section so good enough for me :D

This is after getting rid of about 20% of my lip product collection. I am going to try to use up some more lip products before I purge again and give the ones I don't want to friends and family. Awesome video! Your video inspired me to try and use up as much as I can!
I have been working hard to use up lip products this year. I have gotten down to 19 lipsticks (8 is my ideal), 5 lip glosses (4 is my ideal), and 2 lip liners. You have been such an inspiration!

This is so inspiring. I just cut down my collection (today) from 84 to 42. It's scary and it was hard, but I know it's for the best. Eventually I'd like to get to 20-25. I feel like that's reasonable for someone who LOVE lipstick. A year ago I had 180 lipsticks. So I'm slowly making progress. Thanks for sharing! I love all the colors you have. Very similar to what I wear, but add some lavender, pinky purples in as well. 😊💜

You inspired me, I did the same thing, I found a women's shelter and donated tons of makeup and bath products. I am still working on the lippies though, I love my glosses and lipsticks -- its actually the one product that I wear everyday, not foundations, not blushes and no eyeshadows (I'm not good when it comes to my eyes). Anyway, I just love looking at my lippy collection, I do have two daughters though that often take some. The ones you are keeping are just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
I stopped counting at 63. But, in my defense, most of the lip products came in gift-with-purchase type deals. That's how I shop for makeup and clothes. Very rarely do I buy unless it's sale, clearance or coupon or something like that. My largest collection of makeup comes from Lancome. They have a great gift with purchase when you spend $35! That's how I bought the foundation, face powder, etc. You know, so many people travel and it's just for bragging rights. I'm glad travel expanded your mind and had a positive impact on you. First love your channel! And not until you asked the question did I ever wonder about how many lip products I own. I only use drugstore brands and Avon. Which there are two problems with that...one I'm a couponer so I get 98% of my lipsticks FREE and second I occasionally sell Avon so I get those on discount as well. So let's see...I have 11 lip liners in various shades. I have 2 lip balm. I have 24 lip glosses. 7 Lipsticks in Orange/Brown/Nude shades, 9 Lipsticks in Purple/Plum shades and 8 in Pink & Red shades. I also have a freezer bag of brand new lip products that I give to family and friends as just bcuz gifts. 99% of them I got free couponing. And then I have another freezer bag of brand new lip products that I am giving to my Aunt to sell at her resale shop. So ladies can be gorgeous on a friendly budget! Love your videos they make me look around my home and my life and see where I can improve some things!!!! TFS
I would love to see the Netherlands have the american style of couponing. Here you can only use one coupon and not compattable with other sales and always from the original price. Most is 50% off in drugstore. If we had it here i would be a couponer too. Haha. I have seen on programmes like extreme couponing how much you can het off the price with coupons. Love it!
priscillajonas The show Extreme Couponing is what inspired me to start couponing. That's why I was so sad to learn that some of what you see on the show is false and some of those folks were committing coupon fraud! They make it bad for the good couponers. But I absolutely love to coupon. It saves lots of money and getting free stuff that you need isn't half bad either.

LadyZodiac76 I'm with you on that one, I find it hard to spend so much money on expensive brands, most of the time you're only paying for the brand...I love Jordana, milani, wetnwild, nyc, black radiance, nicka k and nyx (rounds and mattes)...I always research until I find the dupe of what i want :p

To be honest, I am not too sure Christine. The last time I counted a year ago, counting all lip products I had 120. And of course during this past year I have collected more. I use my lip glosses more then anything & I wear them everyday. Must keep your lips hydrated and kissable!
20 lipsticks and I'm on a no-buy until the end of the year. Love your videos!!! They're always so helpful and well lit (which I totally appreciate).
I am lipstick obsessed. I have about 40 lip balms and about 45 or 50 lip glosses and lipsticks. That's because I had stopped buying for about three months. I'm planning on a no buy for another several months soon. So I can use some up. Congrats on all those used up lipsticks. :)
i have 55 lip products in total... not including the truckload of deluxe sized lip products that i own and don't even dare to start counting. thanks for reminding me to keep track of what I have and not to be wasteful. Will definitely put myself on a limit from now on :)

These are the video's why I started to follow your channel and I still do! Love it! I have 10 lipglosses, 19 lipbalms (of which some are glossy), 2 lip stains and 11 lipsticks. I didn't think I would have so many lipbalms. Some are from more than 5 years ago, so I guess I have to check them out soon.

You're one of the few that I've seen that digs into a lipstick. I would so do that for MAC and other expensive lipsticks, too.

I wouldn't count the refill for lip liner. This is a great video and inspires me to use what I have. RUclips totally sucks me into buying things I don't need, so this really is a refreshing video!

My favourite lipstick is the Covergirl Lip Perfection in Enchantress. I actually just bought 3 new ones only because they were on a huge sale and I know I will use all of them up. I'm going to stick to those lipsticks from now on because they are amazing! I am trying to go through the rest of my lipstick/glosses/balms/liners now and so my total is 50! Oh my
I just counted my inventory today and have been watching your videos for inspiration. I currently have 51 lipsticks, 24 glosses, 6 liners, and 10 balms. I want to get that down to 30,15, 4, 5 by the end of the year.
Loved the video! and the way u are thinking right now on your priorities rather than have a lot of makeup that u don't use. Keep going, girl!!! Decluttering your innecesary stuff and makeup will give you a unique experience of freedom and peace. Believe me. ;)

I have around 20 lipsticks and I also have about 15 lipliners. I use primarily drugstore makeup so it's very easy to end up with too much because it's more affordable. I do go through my makeup at least once a year and get rid of what I don't use. Love your videos!

Hey Christine! Another awesome video from you! I am happy for you to see that you are using up products even though you seem to be feeling bad about the ones that expired on you... objectivly speaking though, in most of them, there was barely any product left in them! So good job! I have quite a small makeup collection, yet bigger than the average woman and you are, in this crazy youtube world, keeping me from buying too much. Thank you! So I have 2 lip glosses (one is the mini that came with UD Naked 2), 4 tinted lip balms (all burts bees), 4 colorless lip balms (I love them!) and 4 lipsticks within which only one is full size. I'm still on the hunt for a lipliner, but I only really buy when I am convinced I'm going to love it! Take care! xx

I know what you mean about being sucked in lol. Since I started RUclips I have more make up then I know what to do with , but I still want every new thing that comes out lol. I remember loving all your videos where you use to show millions of lipsticks, blushes etc ha ha and I have to blame you for some of my purchases and even now I want some of the ones you have shown that I don't have lol.

I have 3 lipsticks (though two of them is the same, deluxe sample and product) and 1 lipgloss :) I do have about 3-4 teinted lip balms that works as lipsticks and lipgloss for my... So in total, 8 :)
I actually went through them the other day, and took out a product (dosn't sound like much, but when there is barely anything to begin, its still something, hehe).

Total lip products I usually own are two lipsticks, One lipstain, and one lipbalm. The lipsticks are one bold color and one neutral. The lipstain is usually a lipcolor pink. I don't own lip liner. I've never worn it, but I guess It's because I don't know how to apply it correctly lol. I'm not very educated on what fits me best when it comes to makeup. You have a beautiful collection!

The majority of my makeup collection tends to be eye makeup and foundation. ( I don't wear eyeliner because it makes my eyes look smaller for some reason) I have recently had pink eye and had to get rid of 9 yes 9 mascaras! Which are my favorite things in the world! I'm discovering new ones now but darn it still hurts haha
Loved seeing how your collection is being condensed! It's so satisfying finishing up products. I currently have 34 lip products including all lipstick, balms, gloss and lip liners. I'm hoping to somehow condense mine to maximum 10 lipsticks, 3 lip liners, 1 gloss and 2 balms. :)
Can you please show us an eyeshadow and a blush declutter video? Powder products like that take even longer than lipsticks to use up, and I wonder how you justify which ones to keep and which ones to donate?

Great job! I wish I had a smaller makeup collection sometimes but I can't part with it. I do go through and weed things out a few times a year though.

Christine, great to see another video, as always :) Just a heads up about Lakme lipsticks, they do change colour depending on the weather. They tend to move slightly to cooler tones if the weather is cool around.
Good to see that you don't keep thousands of products in your home...I know some people collect things as well as use them but I often wonder if they are just walking into toxicity...........Great stuff to see you let go of things........Keep up the good work...:)

I love watching these videos and you always inspire me to clean out my makeup but when I'm actually going to do it, I think, nobody wants my old, used products and I refuse to throw anything out (unless it smells odd). Worst of all, I feel the need to buy at least one of each new collection that comes out and interests me. All in all, I LOVE my lip products and I don't know, maybe someday I will be able to stop buying more and show the ones I have more love :) Thanks for this great video!

I started with 140 lipsticks last year. I've been steadily giving them away, so I've gotten down to 65 so far. It's still not ideal, but as long as I keep not buying any, it will work itself out eventually.
Love you new lip products container :) ! I remember you having over 150 lipsticks ;) - so goal is fulfilled. I admit I have around 100 lipsticks by now, not to mention like 20 glosses and 8 liners. But I can't let go of the lipsticks - I just love aalll of them! But I have another problem, I still have/want to use up lipstick samples to finally begin with the "real" lipsticks. I never through them away, here in Germany you rarely get any, so I hold on to them and also have a little bit a variety to chose from, colourwise. But of course this way my purchased lipsticks are not getting to be used.
i love videos like this. I've been doing the same thing. Just cleaning out stuff I don't use/need. I need to work on the lip products big time - lipsticks are my favorite.
