When my kids were teenagers, they called things that they liked "tight." More recently, kids would say good things were "lit." To me, both "lit" and "tight" are synonyms for drunk.
Back then, if you wanted to know how exactly how hot or cold it was that day, you either stepped out onto the back patio and referred to the outdoor thermometer or waited to find out on the local evening news.
We never heard of hip hop back in the days. We also never saw, or heard of Amazon delivery trucks going up and down the streets. Doordash was another unheard of thing back in the 1970's. Your friend, Jeff.

Never wore a bike helmet back in the 60s and 70s simply because they didn't really exist, as far as I know. I remember in 1970 my elder brother was trying to show me how to do a skid on my 20" bike. I flew over the handlebars and cracked my skull on the curb. Showed him though, I bled all over his shirt :) Made a trip to the hospital where they sewed it up. But on the other hand, I did learn how to skid :) Cut to 1992, I work at a dept. store and am trying to sell a bike to a parent and his maybe 10-year-old boy. They choose a 26" where the kid could barely hold the bike up on his tippy-toes. I ask if they want a bike helmet. Guy looks at his boy: "You aren't going to be falling off your bike, are you?" "No dad." "See? He don't need no helmet." And so it goes....
I don't know why kids went to those bigger bikes but I remember that happening in the 90s. I thought well there goes your ability to jump ramps, ride wheelies and do other tricks like skids etc. Those mountain bikes have their place but the 20 inch bikes just seem like they would be more fun for a kid. I guess that is what we grew up with though. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories theodorerelic2718!
@@RhettyforHistory I have to wonder if it wasn't because parents wanted a bike the kid wouldn't quickly outgrow. But when I was a kid, 20" bikes were the way to go, especially with the banana seat and the elongated forks for the front wheel. Those were really fun.
Oooh I can't stand it when someone says Bruh. It sounds so disrespectful. I used to call my friends homeskillets but only close friends. Plus the cat's pajamas. Rhetty is the cat's pajamas. 😄
I do remember when people were really using homeskillet. I haven't heard that in awhile so I forgot all about that. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories with us.
When I read the title of this, I immediately thought of how kids today would have been as confused by what we said when I was growing up. I started to laugh when you mentioned how we said "bad" when we meant something was good, because that is the word I first thought of! I'll never forget how my mom freaked out (to use a term from back when I was a kid) when my friends and I jumping off homemade ramps. When I went to HS, we used to say "cool beans" or "gimme thw skinny", and "take off (hoser)" when Bob and Doug MacKenzie were big. But that is just the tip of the iceberg...

I made one attempt to wear the stupid thing but felt like such a dweeb, I packed up my bike & never rode again. It was an emotional divorce I’ll never forget.

RHETTY, Well as a school project I purchased the first new calculator sealed in a package. I brought it to school to show what the future school will be like. ( No more figuring math with your head ). Never opened it. Just to prove a point. Well I was suspended from school for 3 days. It was the first Texas Insterments Calculator. I said Now this isn't fair. You guys never said I wasn't allowed. Now look at schools today. Guess I learned the hard way 🤷😕 !!!!
Siri, play me Aerosmith😃I loved everything about this video👍🏻Thank you Rhetty for History for ALL you doROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
Thank you for watching MrMegaFredZeppelin and I'm happy to hear you loved this video!
Furst... I've got my Sony Walkman (3 of them) - and my mixed J. J. Cale tapes and others, I still make tapes from my records, my sound system is a 1983 Pioneer one, still the best sound ever, Thanks for the wonderful video, Cheers 🇦🇺🍻
Nice! I still have a Walkman and Discman because they have radio receivers built in. You can't get a portable radio like that anymore.😢
@@nickimontie - excellent, I'm 62 and I don't like all the technology except for my channel 😊
Thank you for watching and sharing some of what you have DUMPSTERDIVINGADELAIDE!
@@nickimontie Sadly, there isn't much on the radio worth hearing...
2:32 is that Robin Williams?😂
Yes! I don't remember the name of the movie but he processed the photos at a store.
I still Miss him ..best comedian in my opinion
At least a somewhat wholesome one at least.. most likely clean jokes..
@@LaManteca76 It was called 'One Hour Photo" and was a really creepy role for him.
@@jbrou123 Thank you! Yeah I didn't care for it. I'd never seen him like that & he was creepy!
Yes it is. That was the movie "One Hour Photo" and it was a completely different role for him. Thank you for watching!
Helmets! We didn't need no stinking helmets , that's what doctors and stitches were for. I have the scars to prove it.
I remember kids got a lot of medical attention. I sure did. Thank you for watching!
When my kids were teenagers, they called things that they liked "tight." More recently, kids would say good things were "lit." To me, both "lit" and "tight" are synonyms for drunk.
Thank you for watching and sharing a couple more words Tim!
I would think " loose " would be more apt than " tight" for drunk !!!🍻😂😂
Back then, if you wanted to know how exactly how hot or cold it was that day, you either stepped out onto the back patio and referred to the outdoor thermometer or waited to find out on the local evening news.
Absolutely. The news was much more important back then.
I remember when we used to watch the weather channel for hours at a time when it first came out. LOL
It was a genius idea! Thank you for watching thetruthstand!
Totally Cool! What a time in our lives! Thanks, Rhetty!
You're welcome my friend and thank you for watching!
Another great vid Rhett! Thanks for making me feel 16 again!!!
You're welcome John and thank you for watching!
We never heard of hip hop back in the days. We also never saw, or heard of Amazon delivery trucks going up and down the streets. Doordash was another unheard of thing back in the 1970's. Your friend, Jeff.
You're right about all of those Jeff. But we did have a few other delivery services. Thank you for watching!
I could fill up my tank in my car for 20$ back in the 90's.
Pretty crazy to think about that now but I know that was true.
I would go back to those days in a heartbeat!!!
Thank you for watching jennifer7330!

@@RhettyforHistory It's ok. It was kind of funny.
I bent many bike frames and had alot of sprain wrists from jumping really high ramps and jumps. We brushed it off and did it all over again..😂

If you wanted to stick a safety pin in the light socket sooner or later someone would let you😅😅😅😅😅
That is true! I stuck a bobby pin in one. Thank you for watching!
Ok ill remember that .."let's door dash". New age way of saying "ding dong ditch"
Sounds about right, doesn't it?
Rhett, I really enjoyed your things we never used to hear video. I remember those times and you gave me some much needed laughs because I'm trying to cope with my painful knees. Have a fantastic weekend. Take care 🐎
Thank you for watching Brenda and I'm glad to hear you got some laughs out of this one. I'm sorry to hear about your knees. I hope you have a great weekend as well.
I personally thought a channel strictly for the weather was stupid. Now I could not live without it.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts merchantman3955!
My mom didnt understand what we meant when we said we were gonna crash(sleep) at a friends house, lol. If i like something i still say I can dig it but if i don't like it, that's not my bag.
I think every generation has their own lingo. Funny thing is every generation thinks they are the coolest but as you get older things change. It is interesting to think about all the words that come in an out of style. Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories Greg!
Thanks for the laughs today sir! I needed those.
You're welcome and thank you for watching James!
I just love your commentary dude, hehe. Its so wholesome ^^
Thank you for watching and I'm happy to know you enjoyed this video.
I was raised in the 90s and only kids with helicopter parents made them wear helmets
Now it might be a different story. Just seems to be a social norm. Thank you for watching!
When you wanted a coffee the only questions were, "Regular or Decaf?" and "would you like creamer with that?"
Yes. Folgers or Maxwell House? Thank you for watching!

Gas didn't get to around $1.00-ish with the '79 oil crisis. It got to $0.50-ish with the '74 oil crisis. Before that it was $0.25-ish! And I still have my grandparents old Bell telephone from the 1960s, but it's just decorative now.

Thank you for watching krisstopher8259. It has definitely changed a lot. No one would have wasted their polaroid film on just food. At least from what I have seen.
I remember the bulky telephones I had one at home
Actually, back in the early 60's I had a helmet. It was a plastic army helmet for playing 'army', along with my remco bazooka.
Wouldn't have been much protection but I can see why you had it. Thank you for watching!
A reverse case:
Then, “Don’t worry, I took a bunch of Polaroids!”
Today’s response, “A bunch of WHATS?!” 🤷♂️
Polaroid tried to make a little come back a few years ago. One of my daughters bought one and thought she had something revolutionary. I tool her to my camera case where I showed her four that I had all of her life. I said you should have said something to me if you wanted one. She used it twice and then said I didn't realize film would end and it's too expensive. Plus you can't see the photos before it prints. I had to laugh at that one. Thank you for watching!
The year helmets on bikes became law, my dad bought me a blue helmet & explained I was to wear it every time I rode. I told him I’d get stoned by the neighborhood kids. It was NOT a good look! I made one attempt to wear the stupid thing but felt like such a dweeb, I packed up my bike & never rode again. It was an emotional divorce I’ll never forget.
Oh wow! There was a helmet law where you lived? I don't think I have seen a helmet law. There isn't one where I live but every kid and adult seems to wear one. I guess it's just sort of a social norm. Thank you for watching ThatsaTechnicalFoul!
One phrase I remember is "happening" it referred to something being current like maybe fashion. For example bell-bottoms are not happening, now.
That is a good one to mention. Thank you for watching Engineersoldiers_Spiritof76_21!
I still have school calling card from 21 years ago. It still has minutes on it.
My husband is technically challenged. We were out one day and I was bored. I was trying to think of music that we both liked. Finally I go, “Hey Siri! Play the Statler Brothers.” He looks at me and asks, “What are you doing?” Then the music came on. I’ve told him I can help him learn to use Siri, but he just says he’ll think about it.
That's funny! He sounds like a simple man and that is ok. It's definitely not for everyone. Thank you for watching and telling us about your calling card.
I don’t know why school popped up in there. It’s just a plain old AT&T calling card. Heck, I’ve been out of school for almost 50 years!
I was born in 1966 and I live in metairie Louisiana and remember the shopping mall and the lakeside theater it was torn down and I saw ET The extra terrestrial there when I was 16 in 1982
