Idk if it's what they're going for but there's a hanfu craze right now in China, and one of the "waistline" that's becoming popular is the "chest waist" (qixiong). It's inspired by the qixiong ruqun from the Tang dynasty and is good for elongating the silhouette but unfriendly to people with large chest. I've noticed this happening with dresses that aren't han-styled too, though I'm not sure if it's a design choice here... Edit: I tried on my Catstronaut dress and the waist sits fine (empire on second strap hole, normal on first strap hole). The fit probably has something to do with your chest size... Chinese lolita tends to be made with very small chest in mind, for e.g. I have a chest circumference of 80 cm (31.5 inches)
We do have different bust measurements, so that could explain the difference in fit. I was just so surprised since the shirring seemed so stretchy??? Also thank you so much for the information at the beginning! I wasn't aware of this at all! Do have any other resources on the topic or know any content creators who have talked about this whose blogs or videos I can look into? I would love to look into this more, so let me know if you have any recommendations! Otherwise, I'll just look for info on my own :)
@@BeguruTeam Most knowledge I have of it is first hand since I'm Chinese. I don't know any English friendly creators, though I could try to look for some. You can try to look up these terms by copy pasting it into google 齐胸襦裙汉服 (qixiong dress hanfu) and 齐胸洛丽塔 (qixiong lolita) or 中华风洛丽塔 (Chinese style lolita) Btw, hanfu is Chinese historical clothing, though they are also being adapted for modern lives. It has a certain 'reject western colonialism' and 'reclaim our culture from the past' vibe to it, but I think most people just think they're pretty clothes. It's still very much a niche/alternative subculture
I mean I wouldn't get mad at anybody wearing this at a meet obv, but I would be so dissapointed getting this quality... the designs are cute, but the quality makes me cringe. I really hate the fast fashiony aspect of dresses like these, you do a good job explaining this though
Have you ever bought a diamond honey dress? They're a sweet taobao brand that is known for being on the cheaper side. I think it would be interesting to compare a diamond honey dress to a wholesale dress!
I was looking at Diamond Honey when I was looking for gingham OPs but I ended up settling for a Dead Celine OP instead. I was worried about the quality haha since I haven’t heard loads of good things about the brand. This would definitely be an interesting video topic, however, and it is a pretty affordable brand, so I’ll put it on my topic list for future videos :)
Oh my god those are cute and what your gonna do sounds so exciting. 😆Also yes my first Lolita dress from amazon, it is a little difficult to tie behind my back. 😐But I am hoping to get Lolita better, when I have the money.
I've been eyeing this dress that's apparently a wholesale dress ( I asked in a lolita fb group) from the pictures from the people who bought it looks pretty alright for it's price so I'm really temped to buy it
Oh, I bought that Space Cat dress off of aliexpress (before I knew of taobao), and once I knew more about lolita, I was so scared that I bought a brand replica.
Yeah! So I actually say in the description box where all my stuff is from, if you're ever curious! I'm not sure if you're talking about the white or pink blouse, but the white blouse was actually a birthday gift (I just know it's off brand) and the pink blouse is from Bodyline :)
I know this is an old video, but if you do happen to read this comment (and anyone eise passing by), the straps are too short on the second dress. The compressing feeling is a combination of the straps having tension, and the waistline sitting on your chest. If the straps are detachable, tie them into a halterneck.
Taobao is definitely the cheapest option! There are a lot of other alternatives, too, so here's a comment from before where I talk a bit about resellers and second hand sites, if that's easier to use :) (Copy and pasted response from a previous comment I answered) I'll probably make a video on this topic in specific, but there are a lot of awesome stores. If you're tech savvy, you can order directly from the brands you like on TaoBao using a Shopping Service. Otherwise, you can purchase the same brands at a mark up through a reseller. Resellers I personally like and use are Clobba Online and My Lolita Dress. However, there's also Lolita Wardrobe and Glitzy Wonderland. If you want to stick to a more sustainable route, I personally buy a lot secondhand, either off of members in my own community or through LaceMarket (LM also protects against buying replicas). You can also buy lolita secondhand on Mercari and Depop but it can be a lot trickier to find real pieces. And then if you're just starting off, Bodyline is also an awesome place to buy stuff. They have some JSKs that are only $10 and they're awesome (I bought a few of them and can confirm it's great quality considering the price). Overall, if you're interested in starting the fashion, definitely check out Big Sisters of Lolita Fashion on FB for more help!
The design is cute, but it looks like it would easily break stiches, and the way is finished makes it look very cheap. While the design is cute, I personally like to buy something that I feel like it would last me longer.
@@BeguruTeam I saw that part after posting the comment. My guess was right apparently. But I still feel sorry. Maybe there is a way to put in a zipper so you could wear it.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. I just don’t know where an effective placement would be for a zipper with the sailor collar. I have some cosplays from way back that had zips under the arm for long sleeve shirts and still really struggled with putting those on

Thanks for posting this. I've been curious about the quality of wholesale.
Of course! I hope this was able to give you some insight into their quality! Are there any wholesale dresses in particular you're looking at?

@@BeguruTeam that was a good idea. Diamond Honey is a great brand for a first dress if you like sweet, but you very much so get what you pay for.

@@BeguruTeam a different one, I believe it's usually called "Halloween cat"

I might get the blue sailor dress :)

If you watch the video all the way through, there is a section where I try to take off one of the dresses and break through some of the stitches lol

Thank imma get a wholesale dress after this review!
I hate tying my waist ties behind my back omg

Miss you too. Wish you’d come visit so we can hang and make more videos together
@@BeguruTeam I'll be home over the summer!! Just need to find a good time
Maybe we can film when you visit me in Paris
I love the space cat dress
The spacecat dress definitely feels like a synthetic fabric, but I am unsure of which one.
I doubt its cotton lmao
@@DragonFlightRider ok thanks!
@@Ilsezwarts lol i will probably buy it and test it
I think it is polyester, it's definitely a really light-weight dress comapred to my other ones.
