- I've been meaning to make more videos with my grandparents and I've always wanted to do "day in the life" vlogs with them... and after losing both my grandmas, I felt really grateful for the amount of videos I had of them. So I want to make sure I keep capturing the moments I have left with Gong ❤️ Here's a little peek into a day in his life... and a lil taste of the many stories that he's accumulated over the 91 years he's lived! I spent a longggg time adding English subtitles, so hope you enjoy :)

I love how you're keeping our Teochew nang culture alive, especially you interacting with your grandpa 💯He reminds me so much of my grandpa. Much love from San Francisco 🌉💯
Aww 😄 thanks for watching, Brendan!! Sending love to you and your grandpa from SoCal!
Watching this reminds of spending time with my family. So happy to hear everyone speak Teochew.
Please continue doing these types of videos as long as you can 🫶🏼 help continue to share our Teochew culture and cherish these moments with him 🥹
My 94 year old Ama just passed away very recently, and I thankfully had a good amount of videos with her and so many memories with her. My best friend. I miss her dearly. Your Gong reminds me of my Gong, who passed in 2000. This is so beautiful.
Sending love from SD, CA ❤
Aww sending you so much love, so sorry for your losses. I’m so glad you have so many videos with her 🥹 I feel the same about both my grandmas who I lost last year.. so thankful I was able to spend a lot of time with them and have many pics and vids to look back on.
Thankyou so much for watching ❤️❤️❤️
I am a 4th Gen Teochew in Sarawak Malaysia and so proud to see you keep the Teochew dialect alive in the USA.
Great video. I watched this with my 75 year old dad and its very entertaining. Thank you for sharing ❤
Aww that makes me so happy. Thank you both for watching!!
Shout out from a teo chew nang in Sweden! This is so endearing and brings so much joy to watch! ❤
OMG! Your a-gong is really cute. Please do more Teochew vlog with your a-gong❤
Hehe thank you Vivian!! 🥰 I’ll try! Thank you for following me on IG too :,) I post lots of Gong content there hehehe and have lots of teochew content in my “grandparents” and “culture” highlights 🙏🏻💛
I also clicked your link in bio and so amazing what you’re doing to keep the teochew language alive 🎉
Yes, definitely please make more. So peaceful listening to a gong speak teochew.
more videos please! especially listening to Teochew. I'm subscribing!
Aww thanks for subscribing!! My gong doesn’t always like making these long vids, but I upload lots of him on my IG @katrinastacie (grandparents highlight) and RUclips shorts :) 🥰
Hearing other individuals around my age range speak Teochew on a proficient level espicially with their elders makes me so happy, It's uncommon for Millennials and Gen Z to speak this fluently. ❤
🥹 awww haha! That rly means a lot - thank you Erick!!
I'm from Germany and also have Teochew background - this video reminds me of the time spending with my grandparents, also speaking Teochew.
There is almost no Teochew community in Germany - so happy to find this vlog!
Your teochew dialect is exactly the same as we speak at home, so awkwardly familiar.
Much love from Germany.
Omg oha ein deutscher Teochew? 🥹 Legit nie jemanden kennengelernt aus unserer Generation, der Teochew spricht. Wir müssen uns connecten 🥹🙏
Awesome to hear that your Teochew is similar to mine in Malaysia.
Omg this is genuinely one of my most favorite videos ever and that’s saying a lot considering I watch so many Chinese dramas! Ur gong is sooo cute!! He reminds me of mine🥹💗
Aww that means the world to me!!! Thank you 😭❤️
@@katrinastacieofc!! i’d love to see him in future videos😆🩵
@@sammi_boba143 hehe I’ll try 🤭 much easier to record little snippets of him so you’ll see him in many of my youtube shorts/IG reels/IG Stories! 🩷
Thank you for sharing! This was so sad but also made me think of my grandparents
Aw not meant to be sad 🥺☺️ thanks for watching and hopefully brought some warm thoughts amidst it all! ❤
omg... As a Thai whose got grandpa and grandma as Teochew. It's really reminded me in the past when two of them speak together. Such a nostalgic trip down the memory lane.
Where I'm in, probably the last gen of family to call all my relative in Teochew terms. All those lao gong, lao ma, aa gong, aa ma, aa jeck, aa pae, aa ee, aa guu, aa goo, smth like that.
Down the line we just call them like that as a name. Call them the same as what my dad, mom call them. Not smth as grandpa, grandma, aunt, uncle, which are dynamically changing to each person relative to you anymore.
And generation after mine are all calling their mom/dad/grandpa/grandma in all Thai terms. So in some day, all would be gone.
Sah goh so glad that you captured a few of gong’s younger life stories and how proud and smart gong was and is😊❤
😊❤
Katrina, I’m proud you. Good job 😁I liked this video 😘😘😘
Hehe thank you Twang Goh 🥰🥰
From your Gong's way of speaking, I guess he is from Chaoyang district of Shantou city, probably not far away from my home. Years ago, I was in Atlanta and had the pleasure to meet and chat with some teochew folks living in the south. Some of them know how to speak teochew well but never got the chance to visit teochew as they are the second-generation immigrants from VD or CBDA. I can tell that in their mind, DengSua(“塘山” Teochew) is always their hometown. Likewise, we always see you as one of us, Gaginang 家己人 :)
Very heartwarming and kind of adventurous.
Brings back memories when I was married to my Chinese ex.
Let grandpa live long healthy nice life.
Thank you for upload this video, Missing my Gong n My DAD toooooo.
I actually understand every single word of your conversations 😂 BTW, my family bloodline is from Teochew Hui Lai, I'm born in Malaysia.
Wow so happy to see this video. My grandparents are also from 潮陽so i totally understood your gongs accent and I normally can’t understand Teochew because the pronunciation throws me off completely. I think there are videos on RUclips to show how 潮陽 looks like today. From what I heard, the most popular TeoChew dishes today are beef balls and beef hotpot.
Ngoại cũng biết nói tiếng Anh giỏi quá luôn 👏👏👏👏 em gái nói tiếng triều châu cũng giỏi quá 💖💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹🌹ăn đồ Nhật uống rượu tây hút xì gà. Chúc cả gia đình vui vẻ an lành 💖💖💖
Chắc các bạn ở việt nam qua vì ta nghe ngoại nói có đi Sài Gòn kkkk
Đúng rồi các bạn ở việt nam 33 năm. Gia đình vui quá
Chắc hôm nay ngày giỗ bà ngoại gia đình sum họp đầy đủ. Chác mọi người ở Florida?
Yes please nana, I want to see more of grandparents videos ❤
Hehehe Will do 🥰🥰
❤ Love watching your videos. Please post more of daily speaking with Ah GONG. My Teochew is very limit but watching your videos I’m picking up a lots of words ❤.
@@Paihok6231 yay glad to hear it :) it’s quite difficult filming long videos of him, but I try to upload RUclips Shorts and I share on my Instagram too - they’re saved in my grandparents highlight 😄@katrinastacie
very good!😁 l am also Teochew nan from Malaysia!
My wife’s Teochew and her Gong passed away about 10 years ago. That’s cool to see your Gong throwing out some English phrases! He’s got a cool personality 😊
Thanks for sharing Katrina!
My family in terms of ethnicity is much like yours. Same migrations as well, except of USA my family moved to Canada.
Unfortunately my family is rather toxic and not healthily close.
With the only exception being my Lao Ma. She was what developed the best of me.
I appreciate you sharing this look into your family, as it shows a look into what a wholesome and healthy Teochew family looks like.
Makes me think of my late Lao Ma, and gives me strength to continue striving for the best me I can be.
Aww sending love, so glad you had your Lao Ma ❤️❤️
Someone reprint your video to the Chinese social platform "Little Red Book". And I found the original creater at the end of the video, that's why I am here. Your video is so amazing!!! Gong's accent is very similar to my grandparents, probably from the same city(Puning 普宁). This made me feel very welcome. Hope you and your family are in good health and happiness🥰
Awww I’m so glad you found me (but also kinda upset someone reposted my vid 😭😭 Ty for letting me know!).. so glad this vid brought some happiness 🥰
Your Gong so lovely and cute 😂. I show this video to my parents. My family are Teochew.
aww!! 🥰 thank you and your fam for watching!
Reminds me of my Ah Gong too ❤
Your Gong's slang is just like my deceased mom, she was from China. I missed my mom very much.
Aww 🥺🤍 thank you for watching, sending hugs
Hii it’s really cool to see you and your grandpa speak teochew. My grandparents from both sides are full teochew and I know that some of my grandparents siblings moved to the states and have children in New York (third cousins- Lam) and California. So I probably have distant relatives in the states 😂😂. I can only speak Cantonese and know some basic phrases like Le ho, gang hu de, chia meung Le Mia mit Gai. Just curious what’s your grandpas surname??
haha that’s awesome 👏🏻 his surname is 葉
老叔,厲害👍
Your Teochew have a touch of Fujian
I am half teochew, half fujianese :)
❤❤
🥰
Though living in the US, your teochew upbringing n Chinese culture is intact.
😊👌🏻
Your AhGong is just excellent! It is really good.
☺️ thank you!!
Excuse me, where do I learn Teochew? I really wanna learn it after learning Mandarin and Cantonese.
long life a-gong!❤
tbh i cried a little bit because my a-gong already left this world since 4 years ago during the pandemic times 🥲
Aww I’m so sorry for your loss 🥺🥺
@@katrinastacie thank you🙏🏻
As a Malaysian Chinese, I feel regretful for not learning Teochew....
How come your Gong has different accent with the rest of families? He is from Teo Yong?
His accent is cause he grew up in Chao Zhou in China, but the rest of us have more of a Vietnamese accent cause my parents were born and raised in VN.
Ah gong jing-sik ho sioh 🥺
Aww thank you for watching 🥹🥹🫶🏻
Your ah Gong sounds like from TeoYeo (朝阳).
Where is your Teochew origin in China?
Teoyeo
A bit ignorant in regarding food. A bit risky letting elderly eating sushi raw meat. Please ensure food give to elderly is fully cook.
Lmao your unsolicited advice is not appreciated. My family is very cognizant of his diet and vitals - you saw one meal that he ate. At 91 years old, food is one of the few things that brings him so much joy.. we let him enjoy once in a while.
a western born teochew 🥹 thanks for this video! i have never met any so these videos are so heart warming ❤️
aww thank you so much for watching!!! and I think it was you who followed on IG :') ty so much for taking the time to go thru my highlights and posts.. it really means a lot, Chrissy!
@@katrinastacie yes it was me!! ur stories and highlights gave me so much joy as I have never seen a family dynamic close to mine and also from the outside y’all seem quite close and supportive with each other, which is very adorable🥹 It has also inspired me to look for improvements in my own family dynamic as we are also close but sadly with a lot of disharmony as well, due to life circumstances and trauma. When I saw your family playing Jenga, I was so fascinated by your grandfather and the support of your family. Your Gong reminds me a lot of my father who’s quite old and physically not the fittest, so I’m now thinking about trying to play this game with him, as ur Gong did so well and seemed so happy 🥹 So thank you so much for sharing your family and teochew culture with the world. I really appreciate it and I wish happiness, health and prosperity for all of your family ❤️🙇🏻♀️
This makes me sooo happy 🥺😭 shared with my fam too!! Wishing the best of health and happiness for your fam too.. Hope your dad enjoys Jenga 🥰
