WHAT AN OPENER! 😳
It’s a little overwhelming (in the good sense) with how much this game has to offer, it’s such a leap from Arkham Asylum, we so much game to explore!!
Thank you for all the love, so many messages from everyone saying thank you, and how much they’re enjoying the Batman series 🫶🏼🦇
I love the improved Gotham City beyond Arkham City. It's beautifully inspired by Batman: The Animated Series, embracing its signature Art Deco architecture and timeless art direction that was a hybrid of the 90s and 30s. The bridges connecting buildings also evoke a 1930s to 1940s vibe, similar to the aesthetic of Rapture from Bioshock, another city steeped in Art Deco design. The addition of blimps overhead enhances Animated Series as well, pretty sure the concept of blimps was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series, where the GCPD used them for surveillance. Since then, they've become a staple in the comics and various adaptations, though we have yet to see them in live-action Gotham. Also assume that blimps are also used for tourism as well to highlight the cities rich history and put a unique timeless spin on the city.
Arkham City itself appears to be built around Old Gotham, a section of the city steeped in lore. According to the comics backstory, Old Gotham was designed by architect Cyrus Pinkney and promoted by Judge Solomon Wayne, establishing the city's iconic Gothic Revival architecture. This style was popularized in the real world by the 1989 Batman film, with its version of Gotham City brought to life by Anton Furst, the film’s art director.
For the comics a story was developed in which a terrorist attack (Fan of Cyrus Pinkney) in Gotham City unearthed parts of the old Gothic architecture designed by Pinkney over a century ago, giving Gotham of the comics a look that's closer to the film. One of the most iconic buildings is the Old Wayne Tower, which Wonder Tower in Arkham City seems to be inspired. But again this is all from the comics so it could differ with the Arkhamverse.
Let's gooo finally city! Now the one i am most excited for is Arkham Origins as it's my favourite game of all time, i hope you enjoy all of them including Arkham city!
Thank you! I really like everyone has their fav game, it seems super mixed what ‘the fav’ is
I am vengeance, i am the night, i am BATMAN!
And i hope you enjoy the game.
Thank you 🫶🏼
You looked a bit giddy, when Riddler popped up. That warmed my heart.
19:12 You have REALLY gotten better! Well done on this progress, buddy!
💪🏼💪🏼
At the end of Arkham City, once you've done all you want to do, before you move on to Arkham Origins, there's a story DLC, Harley Quinn's Revenge.
Of course!
Some More Pro Tips: You can use your new slide ability to break open vents immediately so that you don't have to pry the vent gates off the wall. Also in this game *multiple* enemies will try to attack you at once, which means you'll have to press the counter button per however many enemies are charging you at once. For example, if two thugs are charging at you to attack that means you have to press the counter button twice. Also gliding has evolved a lot from Asylum to City. Your new "Divebomb" mechanic is gonna be very useful to get you more airtime. I hope I'm not overloading you with too many tips. I'm just super excited to see you play more!
It’s frustrating that many channels face copyright issues with Arkham City due to its music. While there’s an option to turn the music off, a lot of sound effects are unfortunately tied to the music track for some reason. For example, if you disable the music during the intro, you’ll lose key sound effects like electric shocks, ambience, the reporter’s camera shutter, footsteps, and even punches when Bruce gets captured. It leaves the scene feeling very unfinished and takes away from the overall immersion of the game. I'm pretty sure this applies to gameplay as well but its much more noticeable when it comes to the cutscenes.
I won’t turn any of the music off ☺️
I can dispute them all, from what I hear, most creators win the claims, so I’ve some confidence, just annoying, but yeh I wouldn’t want to ruin the immersion, and what they’ve created.
Iam so so excited for you to play this Nat! Lets kick some butts once more! :D I remember the day i ordered 2 copies of Arkham City for the Xbox 360 for me and my brother, never ever before were we so excited for a video game after the amazing Arkham Asylum! 🤩
I'm so glad that you are play this game. It really takes me back to when I was 10 years old and first saw this game in a playthrough. I don't know what it is but you just encapsulate everything that was good about early 2010's playthrough. I was born in 2002 so the Batman Arkham games were a major part of my childhood and seeing you experience them for the first time is making me nostalgic. I hope you had fun while playing the game!
Thank you 🫶🏼 such a compliment, I want to do the games justice, and this era of gaming is actually my fav, so I find it a lot easier to get super excited and immersed in the games, more so than newer released games 😄
12:34 The ACE Chemicals building is is owned by the ACE Chemicals factory (which is not in this game). The ACE Chemicals factory is where Joker met Batman for the first time and fell in the vat of acid that permanently bleached his entire skin white, turned his hair naturally green and his lips red.
8:32 The prisoner who said that you were on his list is Floyd Lawton AKA Deadshot. He is the world's greatest marksman and also often the leader of the Suicide Squad
41:20 You're thinking of Hush(Dr. Thomas Elliot). Enemy of Batman and former childhood friend of Bruce Wayne.
9:09 Yes. Jack Ryder is also a superhero named the Creeper who he can change into and is almost like a different personality.
Arkham City is the best game of all time, and the one I have played the most.
I just enjoy being in the world
You have no idea how much I've been anticipating this game...Well, ok, maybe you had, but I'm so pumped! Arkham City blew every one away at the time. I remember being a kid and seeing every reviewer or critic call this game a 10/10 masterpiece, and in my humble opinion it is! The scale of this game, the story, the characters, and the gameplay are all astounding. I haven't even started watching this video and yet you've already made my day Phoenix Nat! Lol. Hope you enjoy this game
It blew me away in the first few mins!! I’m glad I can share it and bring some magic and memories back to everyone ☺️🫶🏼
Pro Tip: This is something that I never connected in my brain when I first played Arkham City, but you can break walls made of wood by punching them or even gliding into them. If you just glide into a wooden wall Batman automatically kicks it. I hope this helps!
There's a lot of secret dialog if you wait and listen (and a lot of varying dialog based on what you've done up to that point). Like at 33:00 the guards get into an argument over whether or not they're going to shoot Batman while Batman's just standing there (menacingly of course)
Also fun fact: You can get an alternate slow-mo camera for gadgets by pressing R1 instead of R2 when firing them (like on the Batarang and Batclaw). It's usually useless in combat, but fun when breaking distant targets or just if you want to do a quick examination of the area.
I really love how you're amazed by all this and you have every right to feel so, but just wait ... it gets better and better 😁
ITS SO GOOD! Honestly just hearing Batman narrate the first first and assess the area, ITS SO GOOD!
So glad you started this. This game is golden. Best of Rocksteady. Before their downfall.
I strongly suggest you'll do all the side missions. They're satisfying especially the Riddler one. Do similar riddle trophy video at the end when you've completed the game.
Don't forget to do Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC after. Its better to do after you've doen everything you can do at the main game.
No side mission or riddle trophy will be ignored 🫡
I’ll be covering all the game has to offer, just need to find the balance for each episode 🙏🏼
The Dr in Asylum was Penelope Young not Strange
Did I say Penelope Strange? 🤔 haha
@@PhoenixNat You could get Strange's bio from one of the puzzles.
There's a secret diolouge with joker if you wait for the timer to run out in church clock tower
31:43 This time, Harley Quinn is voiced by Tara Strong, who isn't too bad of a Harley herself! Arleen Sorkin retired from voice acting at this point of time in 2011, coincidentally the original game came out this time too, 😆
Catwoman got alot of women on Halloween wearing leather
Hell yeh! I’ve done Wonder Woman, but never Catwoman 🤔
@@PhoenixNat Make sure you get the whip as well
You'll notice that Two-Face's Courthouse is completely destroyed on the right side of the building and the other half is in pristine condition. Just like Two-Face himself.
This is my fav! Perfect in every aspect 👌🏻
Knight - for me, personally - feels too much, like waayy too heavy.
Welcome to Arkham City Nat.
Have you possibly thought about doing alternating videos between Story/side missions and riddler stuff? For your combo try pointing towards an opponent as you press the attack button this will automatically zip you over to them and you wont drop your combo.
Early advice - read the gadget descriptions.
Some of them have functions that are easy to miss in tutorials, but important for some puzzles.
BTW Hugo Strange was one of the character bios you got in Arkham Asylum for solving one of Riddler's riddles! Also he's not related to Dr. Penelope Young. You called her "Penelope Strange" haha. Can't wait for you to see all of the interesting characters that this game holds!
I have NO idea why my brain did that 😂 it’s probably because I called her the wrong name before too 🫠
32:27 Took you a second to get it, lol
34:22 Ah yes, we Arkham City people remember that quote when all we want to do is explore for a minute, 😂😂😂
43:31 When it says "New Upgrade Available" it just means there is a new thing you can spend a skill level on. Level up is when you can start buying new skills, 😊
56:05 Yes, you will need to complete the Physical Challenges in order to complete the Riddler challenges. 😅 (Definitely get the AR challenges done, that Grapnel Boost Launcher will be VERY helpful.)
Luckily, you also have us Arkham City Veterans to help you out! 😀
56:28 240, YES! So 200 extra, 😅 But don't worry, you don't need Catwoman's to complete the Riddler encounter. 😮 They're good for XP though!
56:34 And you can do that while you're running too! 😄
56:34 yeah, new combat is that 2-3 people can attack you at the same time, so you can counter that many people too as long as you see the counter icon on top of them. Now you can kinda hit the counter button a lot, 😅 Just always be wary and watch what everyone does in your fights!
Popular opinion, this is The best game in The series
One of my favorite movies of all time is Escape from New York and I loved how Arkham City took that concept. Yeah a whole city as a prison not something Batman can allow. Hugo Strange I always feel is one of Batman’s most dangerous enemies because unlike his other villains he has no powers or gimmicks what makes him dangerous is the fact he is a government official so he has the means resources and legitimacy to do his shady operations. But more than that is his unhealthy obsession with Batman so much he deuces his identity as Bruce Wayne. Enjoy its a ride.
🎢
The combat is a lot slicker in City than Asylum so I think you'll get higher combos and be able to do more of the special moves :). Just got to not spam square
It really does seem smooth, and quite a bit more forgiving, but that means we should get way more fancy moves this time 😎
32:26 Ha! Harley told a "wanker" joke.😂
18:00 It is Canon that Batman never kills 🖤
You could've punched out Penguin
I don't care Batman is the best superhero ever period.
Btw at 11:54 u can hit Penguin.
I had this exact coffee mug at my last job ☕☕☕
that's all I needed to get through the night!
otherwise very good video! 😝
☕️☕️☕️ always gotta have a cuppa while playing!
@@PhoenixNat working at night I need my caffeine fix.
and during your videos because that's the ritual when it's cold outside.
So the Late Arleen Sorkin retired from her role as Harley Quinn following Arkham Asylum so for the rest of the series Tara Strong takes over.
Ah, thank you for the info! It’s a good fit!
Tara Strong just happened to be Batgirl's voice actor from the Animated Series so its kind of a full cycle moment that she then became go to voice of Harley Quinn during the 2010s onwards.
Hi Nat this is a really good game, the voice of penguin is Nolan North the voice of Nathan Drake.
Nolan really gets around huh 😂 I’ll have to try listen out for it next time
@@PhoenixNat Almost forgot Harvey Dent is voiced by Troy Baker the voice of sam drake
I am sooooo glad that this series is finally starting. I have really been looking forward to it. Starting this game was one of my all-time favourite gaming experiences- you come into it off the back of Asylum expecting a jump-up but this game is about six jump-ups and it just unfolds in stages during the early stages. Oh, I'm Catwoman... oh, the combat is so much smoother... oh, I'm Bruce Wayne... oh, this opening is really cool... OH, THIS GAME IS OPEN-WORLD?!?!?!? 😳🤯
Seeing your joy and glee at it was so relateable. Superb 👌
Welcome to Arkham City. You'll love this game! I think you meant to say Penelope Young, not Strange. Before Bruce & Ryder enter the prison, the Character Azrael is looking down at Bruce. You can punch & knockout Penguin. Before I go to catwoman, I usually help Jack Ryder 1st. There's a prisoner named the Calander Man below the Courthouse. Actress Tara Strong took over as Harley Quinn. The Doctor in the Church holding that case that cut his face off is Thomas Elliott "Hush". You should start upgrading your armor right away. You can throw smoke bombs while on the vantage points.
Ngl I hate The Riddler in the Arkham series. I tolerated him in Asylum and City with riddles but by Arkham Knight I was annoyed with the challenges.
I saw that someone else mentioned that Nolan North (Nathan Drake and Modi) is voicing the Penguin, and I think that cockney accent was made a terrible on purpose for the character. But also, Two-Face is voiced in this game by Troy Baker (Sam Drake, Joel, and Magni).
I forget if there are any other familiar voices in this from other games, you've played on the channel.
So just so you now about the significance of Two-Face's double-headed coin, it once belonged to Harvey Dent's father before it entered his possession. Using it, he would decide whether a young Harvey would be beat or not should the coin land on heads - the coin always landing on heads. It was later damaged when Harvey was disfigured when during a court trial, the mob boss Salvatore Maroni threw acid on Harvey and half of the left side of his entire body was scarred and he became Two-Face and he views the coin to a reflection of himself, with one head good and one bad and uses it to make choises.
There are things that I like about every one of the games in this franchise, but overall I think this one is my favorite. It'll be fun to see your reaction to it. Each game has its own thing, with Arkham Asylum it was that psychological horror aspect. I won't spoil anything about the other games, but getting your impression on each one is going to be fun.
One thing that always bugged me in the opening...9:32 why is Bruce a better fighter with the handcuffs on? You only have to counter once, and the enemy is either knocked out or incapacitated with a broken arm or leg. The rest of the game you have to counter someone multiple times before they're done.
11:45 You can punch the Penguin here and knock him out. It doesn't change anything one way or the other in how the rest of the game plays out. It's just fun.
I don't believe that there is an after credits scene with this game, but there is some audio during the credits you may want to listen to.
I really hope you are now a Batman fan
It's funny cat-woman has that effect on everyone 😵💫 This is the one I've been waiting for NAT🙏 it's like everything is turned up to 11 a real treat & your 5hour special was a masterpiece thank you 🙏🌻🐝💖
YES! I need to prepare myself mentally when I sit to play 😂
Enjoy Sean! 🦇
Professor Hugo Strange is actually one of Batman's first major villains, predating even Joker.
Oh they’ve gone back to the roots! 👀
Hugo was tease in arkham asylum in the arkham mansion
Great episode 😁
Thank you 🦇
I don't think I have ever been as excited for a video to show up as I was when I saw this. I seriously almost started cheering! What a great after-work treat!
🥳🥳 let’s go!! Honestly, I felt the same when I could finally get it uploaded and started 😅
Enjoy the series 🦇
@@PhoenixNat Well it's sure off to a spectacular start! You have me itching to replay the game, although I think I'll get more satisfaction watching you go through it, so I'll hold off. What a fun ride this will be!
