Y’all being all like “omg why is he so calm when she’s literally dying?? He’s just so casually calm” like guys cmon now. He was taught to be calm in circumstances like this as to not freak out the person even more. If he was frantically like “oh my god, you’re bleeding out so much, you might die” and freaking out, you’d freak out too which causes heart acceleration which means you could potentially bleed out quicker. The intention is for you to stay as calm as possible so that the person who got injured can stay calm too and not lose it.👍🏻
"Calm people live" and if you're calm and seem to know what you're doing then they'll feel safer and as a result they will also be calm which can help to save their lives as it reduces blood pressure which is obviously good if you're bleeding out as you'll bleed out slower then lol

My trainer was rejected a couple of times by people (who seemed to be physically struggling) throughout the years and she said that as long as they weren’t hurt like this, she pretended to leave. She moved to another spot and watched over them to make sure that they really didn’t need help. It’s also important to let them know that you’re certified and stuff- it helps to calm them :)
I was very impressed how calm he enters the scene, eleminated the enviormental thread but diddnt used his TQ. The Persons leg was squirting. This would be the biggest indicator for a rapid Intervention with the TQ or Gaze.
Except it wasn't squirting, an artireal bleed will squirt much more than this (expect a few m), in this case direct pressure was the correct first try as the least likely to injure must always be used unless there is no point (like artery) then they can use TQ if that fails
Thanks guys. Buddy had his arm chopped off in a utv accident. I freaked out and used my dirty Tshirt when I had a huge first aid kit on my UTV. Good video, stay CALM think clear...
Why tq application is delayed after all the assesment? major bleeding comes before everything and in a case like this, where there is evidence of massive bleeding is reasonable to apply it first line. So yes, apply pressure while the tourniquet is getting ready and then, only when you have the bleeding under control perform the rest of the assesment
This video, and the related first aid courses the video is used in, are regulated by WorkSafeBC's training standards which indicate that tourniquets are to be used as a last resort. This is a traditional approach to using tourniquets and has been/was the standard for many decades. While some certifying agencies are moving away from tourniquets being a last resort, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation has yet to set a standard on timing or order of priority for bleeding adjuncts; this may be an indication that there is minimal evidence to support one approach over another. Regardless, first aid attendants are permitted to adjust their approach to treatment to meet the needs of the victim and situation as long as the 3Ps are followed (Preserve Life, Prevent Further Injury, Promote Recovery).
say if this were actually the case where the pressure he put on the wound stoped it from bleeding, would he still need a tourniquet even though pressure has stopped it?
No, if you are 100% sure pressure has stopped the bleeding you won’t need a tourniquet. Although never take off the gauze to check if bleeding has stopped, because that could rip off any blood clots and deteriorate the wound further. So in this case because of the profuse bleeding, and what looked like a artery from the spurting blood they put on a tourniquet due to the severity of the wound.
@@marie-eq3jw At 3:49 they said it was a demonstration video and there were credits for makeup(the wound is special effects makeup, the same thing they use in movies to make wounds), they run a transparent pipe through her leg with a small pump at her ankle through which fake blood is pumped out. She obviously wouldn't have cut her leg with that saw on purpose, and if she didnt do it on purpose they wouldn't have been able to film it
My brother was in a vehicular accident. We were told on the scene the person there to assist said my brother was conscious. But his artery in his thigh was cut and he was bleeding internally. He was alive for 6 hours and it took forever for the surgeon to reach. They have cardiac arrest as cause of death but he lost alot of blood due to laziness. 3rd World countries with natural resources & finance could never peak with corrupt officials stealing elections
Yes, its the best thing you can do as well as calling for help. Pressure, lots of it, even kneeling on the wound if hand pressure isn't enough and plenty of reassurance to keep the patient calm.
Blood absolutely freaks me out.. I got a pretty deep cut on the palm of my hand.. on the fleshy part near my thumb.. it started squirting.. in a literal stream.. in pulses.. I just stared at it.. my first thought was to yell for my daughter.. she’s 12.. She was able to not only stop the bleeding but calm me and lay me down before I passed out.. I was so proud of her.. She was able to do it keeping calm.. every time any of the kids get hurt as hard as I try to stay calm I end up crying along with them.. it’s so frustrating
I know this is a first aid scenario but i would have done some stuff differently. If you see a spurting haemorrhage I would apply a tourniquet first and elevate the leg immediately then do the primary survey, once that’s done I would slightly realise the tourniquet and pack the wound with gauze or a tshirt then apply the tourniquet again then carry out a secondary survey. A major bleed is so time critical and as long as a tourniquet isn’t on for like 3-4 hours they probably won’t have much long term damage form one.
I Wonder if having two tq would help. Not only for the pain that will come from the lack of blood in the leg but also to prevent damage if its on for a long time. Our routine is one tq where i work, but i think back to when i got arm surgery. I had two tq's during the procedure. And the surgeon told me to tell him when the pain got to high. When they released the lower tq and let blood flow for a little bit. It felt so damn good 😅 and also let hem continue the surgery for another 1 1/2-2 hours.
Just a question... is it good to apply tornicate when an artery seems to be injured? Because i think it may worsen the limb ischemia and the victim may eventually lose his/her leg or arm. 🤔
As someone who is engaged in locksmithing and this craft some protection measures are not taken properly. The position in which he stands with the cutting grinder is faulty, so there was an incident, I mean it didn't have to but this is a risky way. It is correct to stand on the side where the plastic around the grinding stone is and the body to be in a different position so that if there is a cracking stone or dropping the grinder not to hit immediately at the feet of the grinder but to go into the empty space as well as broken
I've seen arterial bleeds squirt over 2 feet. I'd have confirmed that the direct pressure did or did not stop the bleeding before applying the tq. If it did. apply a 3rd level then put on a trauma strap rather than a tq. I may apply a tq but left loose. Just in case the direct pressure didn't work or failed later. Also in wet or bloody situations the magic markers don't work. Get a paint marker from Michaels craft store. They write on a wet surface like blood, rain, snow rtc. Also I have my gear bag compartmentalized for types of issues, trauma, burns, airway, eye and minor boo boos.. I have gloves everywhere, but not black. hard so see blood on black gloves in dark situations.
Personally, seeing as I work out of town, I’d have done it slightly differently. Sure go with the tq right away to stop the bleed then do your survey and treat for shock.
