- Checking out the Garmin RTL515 Rear Cycling Radar Taillight. I unbox it, set it up, install it, and give you my impressions.

You left out a bit of info that I think makes the light easier to use. If you swipe down on the head unit screen then scroll left or right you get to your lights screen, there you can select how you want to lights to blink and the auto on/off feature so when you finish your ride and power off the head unit, Edge 830 in my case, the light will go out too. I had the 510 and I had to select the way the light blinked with the top button on the light itself also to power on/off. The 515 does all this through the cycling computer. Took me a while to catch on to this difference and I thought something was wrong at first. My Radar would always tell me to connect but I couldn't connect unless the lights where on in the Network. Very confusing at first. These computers do way to much when you add in the training features and more, kind of crazy when I just want to ride my bike and get some simple information recorded and have it work with my Di2.
Yeah I'm attempting to get some clarity by checking out videos of other people's experiences with this unit. I've been using this with my 530 Edge for a few months now and I'm still not confident with its performance features (despite various claims of user friendliness). The radar does work really well but it is not nearly as simple as taking out of the box and pairing it with your device.

@@MitchOnTwoWheels One more tip about the mounting to the bike and making that attachment more secure. If you look at where the rubber meets the plastic you will notice a slotted thru-hole. Get yourself a strip of velcro that will fit through and wrap around your seatpost. This will not only secure it to the bike encase the rubber band breaks but it tightens it up more securely too.

Hello, should I have to open the light in order to activate the radar sensor? Or they are control separately
Control in head unit or on device. Either works.

Not in the pocket. Just on the seat still.

So how does one fit this thing under a saddle bag? Not everyone has a super high saddle. I find I have limited room. Guess I’m out of luck or maybe my saddle bag is too big! First world dilemma!
Can you mount it to the back of your saddle bag? I’ve seen a few how-tos on this.
@@MitchOnTwoWheels will look into it. The dilemma is mostly when I use a mudguard/fender which I have to clip to the seat post. Gets crowded 🤷. Thanks for the review.

You always should assume there’s a car behind you. So this tech is not very useful for me maybe except for the camera recorder for insurance purposes.
Battery life on it also is not very good.
I've never heard someone use that comparison... But it makes sense--Almost like being a defensive driver. The battery is indeed slightly lower than I'd like, but you get used to charging it.
