Matt, since you pull your share of Toyotas out it might be useful to know how their A-TRAC system works as it would have helped here. It's an ABS based traction control system that applies brakes to the tires that are spinning to transfer power through the open diffs to the tires with grip. The problem is, A-TRAC needs a little time to detect which tires are spinning and which aren't so it knows where to direct the power, and that means you have to stay on the gas for a few more seconds for it to do its thing. If you see the tires spinning and then quickly get off the gas or hit the brakes (as I saw in this vid) it'll never activate, and thus do nothing at all. The best thing to do is just keep medium throttle and wait for it do its thing. When it's working correctly it will pull the vehicle up a steep hill in 4 low even with two tires off the ground.

Straighten the wheels. Slowly back up and turn to head rear first down the gully until you are pointed straight up in the air and can only see sky in front of you. Now head straight up and onto the road.

Yep...that Excursion recovery was one for the scrapbook...and this Tacoma job was pretty good, also. The client looked to be good spirits, with an upbeat attitude.
The winch I have came with two HD cables, a long one for the back hitch and a short one for the front that you hard wire to the battery and have a quick release connector (female) on each and then another (male) on the winch. Makes life a lot easier. Thanks for the ride-a-long. Always enjoy your video's.
I agree with Lizzy. Modern vehicles have so many nanny systems that when you really need it to do things there always seems to be something stopping you. Even my 1968 Ford Tractor had a "safety" that required you to have it out of gear to start. Well, when I needed to use just the starter motor to move it a couple yards out of the way, that was the end of that. Sure, starting in gear is a hazard, but there are times...
No need for wiring it permanently if you have two winch mounts. Just attach clamps to the wire for fast connection. I said it before, you can get two walkie talkies for $20. No license needed. That way you can stay in contact. Much better and safer. Have a good one.
The recovery was excellent. The only thing that I can add is to have a supplemental boat anchor buried 40’ behind each of the Jeep’s. Then attached to the rear bumper. This will keep the possibility of the Jeep’s rear end from lifting or sliding down hill towards the vehicle your rescuing. I had to help someone in the same manner but I had a tree to tie my truck too.

Always nice to see Ed, he just adds something no else can to the video. Another good save by the crew at MORR, looking forward to a great new year.
Cheers from your close by neighbor in the Nevada desert!!!👊...you just rescued and saved that older gentleman from a misery👍.
There's a lot of neat stuff over by Motaqua. We haven't driven clear to Nevada, that way, but the Lone Pine Arch is pretty cool. Happy New Year to the MORR crew. Here's to another safe year of recoveries and RUclips fun.
Tacoma's are great Lizzy... Practice and you'd love it!
Did anyone else see the wreck almost happen out the back windshield in the “so we got a call” segment?
It was close lol
At 0:10? I saw that as well.
There wasn't even any brake light showing, close focus camera creates huge foreshortening, there was almost certainly a lot more clearance than it appeared
I don't like leaving my winch hooked up or using it with the hood closed. I put a jumper cable end on the positive wire so it's quick and easy to hook and unhook the power wire. Works great.
What a pleasant individual. Humble and friendly..
The customer was smart to call in the pros this time.
Overwork a situation like that without the tools and knowhow and truck would likely have been trashed.
Straighten the wheels. Slowly back up and turn to head rear first down the gully until you are pointed straight up in the air and can only see sky in front of you. Now head straight up and onto the road.
I had my Ranger for 8yre bought with 100k on it, she was “Ole Trusty”. But I’d have traded it for a taco any day
I have a 2019 taco...wish I woulda bought an old 4x4 ranger instead and saved a boat load of money 😭
@@Wingsnthings23 it’s ok you have equity lol
Johnny Utah I know you. Ohio State Buckeyes, all conference. Number 9.
My 2005 ranger 3.0L engine just bit the dust this week with only 100k miles on it
@@Wingsnthings23 The Tacoma has the highest resale value of any vehicle on the road so you have that going for you!
Liz should have mentioned that she's crawled into some pretty crazy situations when she said the angle wasn't that bad.
I ordered a yellow Matt's rope for myself to support the channel. Cheers to a happy 2021. Keep being good people.
I agree with Lizzie on the yotas, not a fan. Horses do not have computers that fail and if your eyes follow the deer the horse will stay on the road on it's own. Glad all are safe and healthy.
I like Lizzy. She does not hesitate to speak her mind. She is probably about the age of my granddaughter. Cute as a button . Great video. Well done.
Happy New Years from a fellow tow truck driver in Beautiful Colorado!
Randy is so awesome. He always has such a great attitude.
Same as always...I watch the video and feel like all is right in the world. Thank you!
The customer sure had a good attitude about the entire thing. Seemed super nice.
Great video! I love these videos because Matt has such nice people, with great problem solving skills and they are doing honest work. Very nice.
Happy new year to Matt and all the gang from the UK
That Toyota has a locking rear diff and A-trac system that uses the brakes to mimic a front locker. Might’ve helped to get it out easier 👍🏻
Bs it only has an LSD
No locker to speak of
@@joshlower1 I own one. It has a factory rear locker
@@joshlower1 the A-Trac is an E-locker basically front and rear which can be used with read diff lock. It's actually pretty clever what Toyota did.
Randy tries to give the customer a break "Everybody does it - don't feel too bad."
Lizzy: "Ahh - it wasn't that bad...."
i think he was talking about taking pictures.
@@Stackali i disagree decently the situation he got himself in

That made me laugh because it seems it's generally tall people who complain about the Tacoma.

@Henrich Muller dude it's clear you don't have ANY IDEA what you talking about... 🤠
Look forward to this every day!!
Happy New Year Matt's Recovery Family!!!!
Happy new year!! MAtt & team!! Cheers from Argentina !
You did great Lizzie. I am proud of you. Good job guys. ❤️
Yay, first Vid 2021 🇷🇴🇬🇧👍🏻
Happy New Year to the whole team and families... ❤️
Happy New Year Matt!
I know why he prefers the inefficient removable winch. He charges by the hour...😉
Yep, you know you are gonna be using it 75% of the time, might as well mount it permanent.
@@garypowell4565 Matt has specifically answered this question. He said that up until recently, virtually NONE of his recoveries entailed using a winch. He also mentioned that the added weight substantially impaired his ability to travel travel the dunes at places like Sand Hollow (his most frequent calls are from there)
A lot of his calls are for sand hollow and he's stated before with sand you need to be as light as possible to get through it
It’s better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it
Old fellow with his sidearm... just like I would be if I was there. Thank you Matt and crew for being firearm friendly.
Not sure if you all know (I’m sure you do but I haven’t heard it mentioned) but those Toyota’s (atleast mine) have a button RSCA which deactivates all the roll safety features such as airbags and seatbelt locks. Love the videos!
You all have a great 2021. Can't wait to see the Corvair doing recoveries.
The banana made this channel....🤔
happy new year to all.. but Matt why not use some heavy duty connectors like battery-connectors used at forklift-trucks to your electrical winch ??

Been around 4x4s my whole life and have never seen a rig climb and work like the banana. It's really quite amazing.
It always fascinates me on the ''winch'' topic. Using a Hitch receiver set up, the winch might do all the pullin, but that tiny little locking pin does all the work. Same as the king pins on trailers n trucks. That little pin can haul (over here), 50 tons. A-mazing!
Great recovery footage everyone works so well together ( at least in the edited version ) something to remember Ford and Toyota are the most American made trucks in the USA . A little over 85% of all the parts on both are US made no other truck manufacturers can say that .
Hearing her complain about visibility in the tacoma made me laugh, hope she never has to drive an H3 lol
Or an FJ 😁
My wife is 4' 8.7" tall and she has no problem driving my Tacoma.
Still not sure why the owner wasn't in the car instead
Honestly it’s a legit complaint though. Compared to every other truck I’ve had, I feel like my 3rd gens nose sticks so far out
