Belts are better for the ride quality, which is very important when flying down roads/trails at 20mph+. Hubs are good for cost/range/reliability/noise/rolling but nothing beats having more thane for shock absorption which ultimately means your odds of keeping your feet on the board are substantially higher. Less fatigue as well. Excited to see more lower cost belt options.
Well done, Marc. Videography in this one was solid. I've appreciated this series of family videos. The last scene in this one between you and your son reminds me how much I miss my father (RIP). Thank you.
Just adding a quick comment. Your mention of direct drive for commuting is exactly why I went with the Verreal F1 instead of getting the vastly more powerful RS. I have one the the very first Meepo boards that I have been commuting with for almost 4 years. The urethane on the rear wheels is shot, and the battery case is held together with tape. I have also replaced the battery. It would have cost me a couple hundred more dollars to get the Meepo back into shape, or I could spend $300 to get a whole new board. Decided on the new board instead. The F1 is super smooth and perfect for my 2 mile commute. I ride every day the streets are dry, even in the middle of winter. Keep skating and stay safe!
That was more fun to watch than many of this year's F1 races... Happy 17th birthday to the lad. F1Elvis: you old, dude, and that deserved to end in a hug! ;-)
Love the addition of the drone footage. I noticed it in yesterday’s video. It gives another great angle to your vids, and a bit of visual contrast. Will we be seeing you comparing drones like you do skateboards at some point? #askelvis Keep it up Marc and Happy Birthday from Canada Leo!!
Hi there, bit of a question if anyone can answer. I have just ordered a hub motor board and now I'm wondering if they may be susceptible to damage from shock from going over joints or rough ground. As the motor has no isolation from the wheel as with belt. Have not seen this mentioned anywhere thank you or anyone that can answer.
Well, same with sim racing wheels basically. The belt driven wheels can have a smaller package due to the gearing and makes it easier to get it in the right performance ballpark in terms of speed versus torque, yet with a DD system you can really only change it up with size of the motor. Which let's be honest... huge DD motors on a skateboard will end up looking silly. Not to mention that the more copper (windings) goes in a motor, the more expensive it gets and these skateboards are already too expensive for my taste.
There's a good reason that Cecil schumacher decided on belt drive for his championship winning RC cars, they deliver power really well and cheap to replace #SchumacherRc. Great video and wow what a present 🤙💯❤️
Lucky lad! One #AskElvis question, do some boards have a MGU-K to regen some energy into the board in order to maximise range? Great to see an Electric Tuesday back, sadly no Sting. How’s the tree house this year????
I would not give my son a belt drive as he will fall (ESC is very jerky). Vestarboard V2 pro seems to be the best belt drive at the moment with the hobbywing in the cheap segment. Probably direct drive is the best way to go but there are no choices except for FABI's board. The Sanyo is a must have as I dislike the Samsung batteries. I own the Verreal F1 and ownboard W1s. I'm afraid to go away from the Sanyo batteries as they are so good.
At that age you never know how to say Thank you, being a father how do you give a gift? these are all the awkwardness moments life has for a father son relationship. Not one of you knows what the other is really thinking, you both hope the other is happy, but need to get on and enjoy a toy , engine or new gadget no time now :D
Funny you should say this... There is actually a grey area in the law about these. It's technically illegal but most police forces in the UK will not give you a ticket for riding one on public streets. It's much like electric scooters or bicycles, they are also technically illegal but nobody will prosecute (unless you are being dangerous)
I received a document from the Metropolitan Police via my my Neighbourhood Watch coordinator. It states that Electric Scooters are defined as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEV) and cannot be used on public roads or footpaths. Electric bikes are defined as Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPC) and, so long as they have pedals that work, and meets a number of other rules they are OK. It says nothing about skate boards but they appear to be closer to a PLEV than an EAPC. However, it would appear that the principle objection to PLEVs is the lack of speed. Since Marc has demonstrated a skateboard to be the equal of London traffic, you could make a case for treating them the same as an EAPC. How gray is this area?
You have some pretty fucking weird laws in the UK... Here, wear a helmet and stick to the bike paths. If there's no bike paths, you can ride on the side of the road. Pretty much the same rules as bikes. Only difference, electric skateboards (And scooters) aren't allowed on roads where cars can drive faster than 50kmt, if there's no bike path to ride on. So... You can ride anywhere within city limits. And most country side roads have bike paths.
You are very much a family man, it’s nice to see that Marc .. Happy birthday to your son😊
Yeah definitely! It's always great to see Marc including his kids!

Lovely father/son moment at the end, so nice to see.
Happy Birthday Leo, have a great day 🎂... yer dads pretty cool ey !! 👍

That was one genuinly happy boy !!! Cheers birthday boy !! Hope you'll enjoy much more board rides with your dad in the years to come !
That's adorable! You have wonderful kids, Marc. One of the best things in life is seeing your kids smile. Nicely done 👨👦👏
Who's chopping onions in here? Gosh, it sure is dusty.
Thanks for sharing that moment with us!
That was more fun to watch than many of this year's F1 races...
Happy 17th birthday to the lad. F1Elvis: you old, dude, and that deserved to end in a hug! ;-)
I think Gingers deffos more of a natural in front of the camera! but Happy birthday to your son, Marc loving the content🎉🎊

Keep it up Marc and Happy Birthday from Canada Leo!!
I would like to know which drone he's using. Thinking of getting one myself!
I'm definitely going to do a video showing the kit I use soon.
This video made me so happy! Also, the English countryside where your live looks perfect for skateboarding. I'm jealous.
Nice vid! How did the onlyone board hold up? I’m debating on getting one but there’s such minimal reviews on that board/company.

I've done many miles with both types and never had any issues with either.
Great video mate.
Would like to know the name of the background music in the beginning please?
Clearly the direct drive is superior
Oh, you're talking skateboards, not steering wheels 😜

😎👍 way to go dad. -that put a smile on my face. 😎 happy birthday to your son 😎

One #AskElvis question, do some boards have a MGU-K to regen some energy into the board in order to maximise range?
Great to see an Electric Tuesday back, sadly no Sting.
How’s the tree house this year????
Yes, all electric boards use regenerative braking to extend range...
Good drone shows....were you in one of the follow intelligent modes?
Yes, ActiveTrack
How awesome is your son?! Happiest of birthdays dude!
can you make a video for RUNAJOY Belt Drive Motors Electric Skateboard? I see a new Belt Drive Motors Electric Skateboard sell on amazon
Happy birthday, those things are fun but scary
Happy Birthday Leo
Question: What happened to the dogs? Have I just not been paying attention enough when watching the videos or are they missing?
They're still very much here!
Aw such a sweet ending!
Can you do an uphill challenge on them pls.
Cool! Your son is a real mini-me version of you! Well, he’s not that mini anymore i guess 🤔
I think the skate board has reverse so you can drive it backwards and have fwd or rwd
I would not give my son a belt drive as he will fall (ESC is very jerky). Vestarboard V2 pro seems to be the best belt drive at the moment with the hobbywing in the cheap segment.

He's more competent on a board than I am, I think he'll be ok.
Those things really shift!
Just today I was thinking about asking you this 🤷🏽♂️ spooky. Are boosted just overpriced ?
Boosted are definitely great quality, but definitely overpriced too.
the real question -> ollie ? manual ? flip ? it is RWD ... will it drift ?? :-)
Yes RWD and yes, it will drift!
Are they allowed on roads legally?
There is no legislation about electric skateboards
Futuristic sound like a supercharger belt?
Like an electric drive train! ???
Awesome gift!! Where does the girlfriend fit on that board? ;)
Drivetrain losses would be higher on belt surely.
Yes, assume so

I thought he was getting a car for his B-Day lol
Haha
I'm 46, but if you need another son, I'm available. Just no weird stuff.
No views, no likes...
I'll be the first!
So you are happily breaking the law then? There is no way these are legal on public roads - completely irresponsible.
Funny you should say this...

@@VittorioJanus Because the law is a "catch-all" law where it says that any motorised object which is not registered is not road legal.
