Glad you mentioned Bharathans name. I think most of tamil audience is not aware of the class of Bharathan. Even though I am not a fan of all of Bharathan movies but I can vouch for the fact that some of his movies are truly world classics. Just take Vaishali for example, I am pretty much sure that not even a James Cameron can make Vaishali the way Bharathan made it. I recommend all the movie buffs to watch Vaishali and Thazhvaram to understand the class of Bharathan.

Devar Magan and Seven Samurai are among my favourites too. Mysskin's Nandalala, Onaayum Aattukuttiyum and Pisasu are also in my list! I applaud him for those WONDERFUL movies.

I can't speak for the masses, but my most fav'te (all-time) Mysskin's gem will forever be NANDALALA! ❤️ I personally loved Anjathe, Onayum Attukuttiyum & Yutham sei too, but Nandalala is the greatest cinematic achievement! 🙏 Yes! I don't care if it's inspired/copied from Kikujiro!

Damn! I watched both Schindler's List and Seven Samurai. Both movies are quite great! Especially Seven Samurai for its cultural impact. And also, for Steven Spielberg, it's not Close Encounters that he lost to Gandhi. It was actually ET The Extra Terrestrial. Anyways, great to see Mysskin's take.
Actually, Close Encounters lost to Annie Hall in 1978, the same year as Star Wars (1977). Spielberg's E.T. was the film that lost to Gandhi.

Guys how about not suggesting your favorites or dissecting the ones mentioned and for once hearing the man's choices....its his list and how they affected him personally is the point here.
As pointed by others, it was the Oscar loss for ET that he was most disappointed about. Years later he recounts, although Schindler's list is historically his most important piece of work , he himself felt that ET was his masterpiece.. Thank you for sharing your views on cinema and also for making great movies yourself..
