Awesome! Most people tend to find a brand they particularly like more than another. Just as long as you're doing the proper service, that's all that matters!
Thank you very much for this information just bought a brand new wave runner and picked up a used one here recently too thanks again for all the information
I use Fluid film and salt away. I have 200 hrs on my ski (2018) and most people think I have 20 hrs on it. Just a quick wash after every ride. Thanks for the video.
I agree with kevin, salt away the inside of the engine and WD40 it after you rinse it. Now I do this for my jetski when I go down to Florida because salt air rust everything. So using salt away all over your jetski will dissolve all the salt that's on the outside of your jetski. You can even use salt away on your car. It will not hurt it as long as you spray it off with fresh water. Salt away is biodegradable so it will not hurt your ski or vehicle. 👍👍
I wouldnt use WD-40 in the engine bay. Its a solvant, not a lubricant. Over time it will eat away at rubber, including wiring sheats, hoses, seals etc. It's also very flammable. Not exactly what I want all over my hot engine. If you want to coat your engine and hull, get Silicone Spray. It's an actual lubricant and protectant, it's water resistant and not so apt to burst into flames the way WD-40 can. In fact, WD-40 brand actually makes a silicone spray lube, and it's really good stuff
Yamahas manual literally says use Yamaha silicone spray for inside your inside your hull for a rust inhibitor or WD Specialist Silicone you can literally blast the whole compartment and it doesn’t harm anything on top of that the silicone is good for the rubbers and plastics , should only use WD-40 on specific engine work but the manual literally breaks down exactly what to use for which purposes and WD-40 will 100% destroy the rubbers and plastics this happened to my brother on his jet ski when I told him not to do WD-40 use silicone and his hoses got deteriorated.
Hi Kevin I have heard people say that wd40 deteriotes the rubber hoses on the ski, I'm not sure if this true but can you shed some light on the this please ?
WD40 is just a penetrating oil spray - it's not a caustic rust remover or some aggressive chemical. Just a "water displacing" (WD) oil spray and its generally pretty safe (safe for paint, chrome, rubber, glass, body plastics - most materials cars are made out of).
This is very true on it deteriorating rubber hoses. We tested this on my airboat and why the fuel lines was cracking. If you buy WD by the gallon and put it in the spray bottle after a few days you will notice the bottle is sucking in. That’s because WD is bad for plastic and rubber
No, you definitely don't want to leave it on or in your engine. It's a detergent and will discolor and leech metals. Coat your engine bay in WD-40 or XPS to prevent salt build-up/coatings.
Hi Kevin. Im guessing these are the everyday little snipets we'll be getting from now on. More revision is always welcome thats for sure. I watch all the hour + long sunday sessions and on one of the recent ones a question was asked about whether you should wash the ski engine with its engine on or off and what are the effects of it ifand done so you did say that on the next session you would have an answer. If i missed your insight on one of the videos can you please direct me towards it, but if not then well you have an avid listener waiting 🤓
Thanks for being a loyal viewer! Washing down an engine shouldn't have to be a regular thing; and no, it doesn't matter if the engine is running. That's only if you have a old school points-style distributor on a small block Chevy in your Yamaha. :D :)
OK I see u have answered this before...I like u based on your honest and what appears to be very educated opinion. I am baffled tho because salt away CLEARLY states not to rinse the cooling system or the engine after applying salt away. It says leave it on, no rinse. Why would they rec that if it damages the engine? At this point I am washing mine off per your advice but can you render a guess why they rec not rinsing.
As it is a detergent it is meant to be left inside so it can break down and flush out any contaminants and oxidation that might be in the cooling circuits.
I use fluid film on inside of hull, works amazingly well and is pretty durable coating.

I like this shortened down version. You should do this with all the different topics in your podcast.
That's the plan!

Thanks for all that you do Kevin, just discovered your content and really dig it
Glad you enjoy it!
I'm on the right track. Doing g all u mentioned, with the exception of misting down the engine on my Kawa 2023 Ultra 160 Ultra LX. Thank you !

Good work, Mike! Stay on that routine.

I'm going to Destin FL in June from PA. Bringing my VXR and STX15F Thanks for the info.
Have fun!
As a young man I appreciate the dad advice and knowledge…

Have you tried "Salty Captain?" My boat buddies have been telling me it's great but I feel like it's probably just an IG marketed cousin of salt away

Rinse out the salt away? I thought the purpose of salt away was for it it to be left behind on metals to prevent salt from adhering in the future...

@@watercraftjournal appreciate the reply... great vids...
Thanks!
@@watercraftjournal I'll have to change my method then, i leave saltaway in the motor as per instructions on the product?
@@watercraftjournal should I coat my engine in WD40 before use, I’m about to pick up my new PWC soon, want the best protection

WD40 is a very good product. I also use Salt away for internals.
Just stay on top of your maintenance and you're golden!
I just bought a gallon of WD-40 on Sunday
Thanks 👍
Thank you too!
WD-40 weakens the orange rubber seals in the fuel injector and coil connectors.
We'd love to see your source.

@@watercraftjournal so why have u been advising to rinse it off?
Rinse off the SKI yes. It'll eat away at your paint/finish.
@@watercraftjournal OK so rinse off the ski but leave the salt away in the cooling system?
Correct. We don't like "leave it in the cooling system" as so much as "don't bother flushing fresh water AFTER flushing with Salt-Away."
