You should definitely light the fountain, its a fabulous feature of the courtyard, lights on all the gates for safety above all else, any others for special occasions, parties, celebrations. Have been away for three weeks in Tenerife, so no comments but have been watching when wi-fi allowed.
The lights are a warm ambient color which is perfect. I’m on team lights and honestly the more old world the better. Your chateau is so beautiful I don’t see the need for different colors.

I think on crs of fountain garden side .. hanging lanterns would look nice on the metal poles with the curve hook to hang lanterns and then lights that light up fountain. The pink flowers are gorgeous 😍

Stuart and Patrick, it is my advice for you to have John wire as much electrical service as possible, as well as, utilize multiple groupings and circuits in order to be able to pick and choose which areas or features you want to illuminate at any particular time without having to light an entire series of lights all the time (the entire perimeter or every third light, just the corners, partial fountain, whole fountain, one gate, both gates, etc.). The ability to color change lights to set a particular mood would be a nice feature, too, especially on the fountain or the grand entrance. Of course, it all depends upon how many euros are in the coffer to fund such a lighting project. The ambient lighting on the gates was a good start. You might want to install outlets by the gates in case you want to install automatic openers in the future, too.
Yes, I also think lighting for the Fountain and the fasade of the Chataeu would be lovely. Not sure about the lights changing colours though. The place is looking good. Smiles :)
Have to agree with the majority about the lights. It will look fantastic. Also agree with the Yellowstone colour and ability to decide how many you use for different occasions. Some maybe used for the majority of the time and others added when needed. Can't wait to see what you decide. There maybe another option to change the bulbs to colour change on special occasions. ❤xx

Yes to fountain and yes to lighting up the front. Yes that same romantic kind of lighting, though, so it isnt glaring but also says that you are there. If a guest comes late, it would be a wonderful way to greet them, with the building lite up. You could also test it with some flashlights just to see if it would disturb the sleeping guests. And yes to colors lighting if you chose because on Bastille day that would look amazing!
Love the lighted gates and lighting the monumental fountain would be beautiful... but flood lighting the facade would seem very modern for an historic building. I'd suggest similar Lantern lights at every doorway or even hanging from exterior wall brackets, though it would require more expense and effort. You both are working so admirably to maintain authenticity, I'd encourage you to stay the course. Most of us can only dream of such a beautiful home facade, thank you for taking us along on your journey!

If you have the chance to light up the beautiful fountain and chateau do it while you can as you will always wonder what it would look like and regret not doing it. yes to concealed spots in the ground pointing to the chateau walls, yes for colours, certain french festivals you can use red,white , blue etc, xmas red and green, lots of party options…..❤❤ fountain yes but very subtle on the bottom tier pointing up
Yes I love the lights. In the 17thC there would have been hundreds of lanterns and candles lit including outdoors down the driveways, gates, fountains. Think Palace of Versailles. Therefore 100% appropriate for Chateau de Colombe.

Hi Patrick and Stuart, I was finally able to catch a premier of your channel. Lots of effort goes into watering everything, at least you have a source for now. But will it last you all season? I love the climbing roses, I'm just a bit jealous. John has such a long drill bit...it goes through the stone so easily. The lighting at the gate adds a lot of great drama romance to the court yard area. If I may suggest similar lighting to the fountain and the chateau rather than flood lights. I don't think you want the look of the street lights on the road that turn off at 11. Soft lighting with the option of rotating color for different effects would add a lot more romance and certainly added drama to the court yard. Mark & Scott
Hello you two. We have so much water and a deep well that used to provide all the water for the 5 huge chicken houses that are here (about 25,000 of those poor creatures), so we are all good there. You are right, it is a lot of time and effort. That’s why we will only plant drought resistant plants that do not need constant watering. Great thinking on your part! While you’re burying cable, put in lights everywhere, with switches that allow you to separate them. Uplights, as another commenter called them, around the facade and floods for the grounds and gardens. And absolutely the fountain. I’ve never seen one so gorgeous! Just my 2 cents.

Heck yeah! Definitely lights for the fountain, up lighters for the buildings. They’ll look magnificent for outside events, like birthdays, anniversaries, even - dare I say - outdoor theatre? I thought a pity they did not do the fountain as well, so yes, do the lights for the fountain, they will also provide light for the courtyard. It would work well in winter time and visitors will be able to miss the flower pots and not drive into them. I love outside lighting, it is just grand. Hello Elise. The lights are giving the courtyard a special atmosphere. We are thinking of different circuits so we can use or not use the lights. We just had lunch with Tony and Jane. As always, we had a lot of fun and many laughs. Tony almost the same age as Stuart. Love from us. 😊😊

Love the lighting. If you have the possibility to put all the lighting infrastructure in now and can afford it.... go for it. It will cheaper in the end and you could potentially wait years otherwise. Give yourselves as many options as you can, It will look fabulous and you never know the impact until you try it. Try using dimmers so that you can also vary the impact.

The bedroom looks beautiful. Yes,yes, yes to the lighting. You can always turn on what is suitable and have options for special occasions. Can you imagine tables set up around the courtyard for special dinner parties, with all the romantic lighting...❤ Dreamy. While we're dreaming, beautiful concrete balustrades on the outside of each partier, leaving the walkways open, would be stunning and also protect the garden from someone accidentally driving onto it. Concrete ballustrades would not visually be historically accurate for this chateau and they would distract from the fountain. The beds need to be low and discreet. Thanks!

Love the lighting on the gates, especially as it is so warm, romantic and welcoming. If you have the chance to light up the beautiful fountain and chateau do it while you can as you will always wonder what it would look like and regret not doing it. Yes I love the lights. In the 17thC there would have been hundreds of lanterns and candles lit including outdoors down the driveways, gates, fountains. Think Palace of Versailles. Therefore 100% appropriate for Chateau de Colombe.

Hi Patrick and Stuart, I was finally able to catch a premier of your channel. Lots of effort goes into watering everything, at least you have a source for now. But will it last you all season? I love the climbing roses, I'm just a bit jealous. John has such a long drill bit...it goes through the stone so easily. The lighting at the gate adds a lot of great drama romance to the court yard area. If I may suggest similar lighting to the fountain and the chateau rather than flood lights. I don't think you want the look of the street lights on the road that turn off at 11. Soft lighting with the option of rotating color for different effects would add a lot more romance and certainly added drama to the court yard. Mark & Scott
Hello you two. We have so much water and a deep well that used to provide all the water for the 5 huge chicken houses that are here (about 25,000 of those poor creatures), so we are all good there. You are right, it is a lot of time and effort. That’s why we will only plant drought resistant plants that do not need constant watering. Great thinking on your part! While you’re burying cable, put in lights everywhere, with switches that allow you to separate them. Uplights, as another commenter called them, around the facade and floods for the grounds and gardens. And absolutely the fountain. I’ve never seen one so gorgeous! Just my 2 cents.

Yes with lighting as much as you can now, particularly lighting the wonderful features of the chateau like the fountain, the tower and the gates. As everyone says you don’t always have it all lit at the same time. Once the gardens go in, there will be even more to feature. You are both making so much progress. Heck yeah! Definitely lights for the fountain, up lighters for the buildings. They’ll look magnificent for outside events, like birthdays, anniversaries, even - dare I say - outdoor theatre? Not all the time, but maybe a period costume play about the chateau once in a while? I’m sure there must be some budding playwrights in amongst the viewers. That would look so special. Good morning Patrick & Stuart, a delightful video again. The gate lights are perfect, they give a warming welcome look. I thought a pity they did not do the fountain as well, so yes, do the lights for the fountain, they will also provide light for the courtyard. It would work well in winter time and visitors will be able to miss the flower pots and not drive into them. I love outside lighting, it is just grand. Hello Elise. The lights are giving the courtyard a special atmosphere. We are thinking of different circuits so we can use or not use the lights. We just had lunch with Tony and Jane. As always, we had a lot of fun and many laughs. Tony almost the same age as Stuart. Love from us. 😊😊

Love the lighting. If you have the possibility to put all the lighting infrastructure in now and can afford it.... go for it. It will cheaper in the end and you could potentially wait years otherwise. Give yourselves as many options as you can, It will look fabulous and you never know the impact until you try it. Try using dimmers so that you can also vary the impact.
