The studio version is a masterpiece with a stunning piano & harp intro. Check it out and you'll understand why Queen, splendidly, stripped it down for live performances.

Yes he wrote it for Mary who was his girlfriend before he realized he was gay. She let him go showing real love for him. He loved her to the end of his life.

I believe he wrote this song for Mary Austin. The live at Wembley 1986 has a better audience interaction. My favorite rendition. You need to watch the Rock in Rio performance of this. The band did not know if the audience (between 250,000 and 500,000) would understand English. What transpired affected Freddie so much so that he had to take a few seconds to regain his composure.

There is such a rich Queen history to follow. There’s a whole story to tell through many of the songs and/or performances, especially towards the end of Freddie’s life. I recommend that you get background information on the later songs as you delve into them. They are sad, but they also tell you what a strong man he was, in spite of just how ill he was.. and he was incredibly ill. He still managed to sing to his fullest potential and even left recordings of himself singing to leave for his band mates so that Queen could continue to go on, even after his death. He was a selfless, generous man who gave everything he had left in him to bring happiness to his fans and not leave his band with no vocals. Freddie lives on❤️❤️❤️

Some very special footage, this concert. Freddie was particularly pissed because the camera crew were always in the way and security told the crowd to remain seated. Freddie had to work extra hard to get the audience out of their seats. He always gave 110%. LONG LIVE QUEEN!!

I suggest you check out this same song at Wembley where Freddie is conducting the audience as they sing and then check out the Rock in Rio version with over 350,000 Brazilians singing the majority of the song. Keep in mind that English is not their first language. Maybe put them on one video so you can see how different they are, but still magnificent. It really goes to show that they didn’t want their live performances to sound like their album. Thanks!

There's a video from Sao Paulo in the early 80's. Queen were worried about whether or not South America would know their music. Well they took Love of my life to their hearts. Freddie didn't even need to sing. It's amazing to watch and to see Freddie's amazement too. Loving your channel dude

  • @sherryheim5504

This song was written by Freddie, it is very elaborate on the album version and could not be performed live with just the 3 singers and just the three insturments. Fans kept requesting it live though so Freddie asked Brian if he would write a simple arrangement that could be performed live. So it is just brian on a 12 string and Freddie and of course the crowd. No matter where Queen goes in the world, the audience always sings along on this one. Even today, it is included in every Queen live performance and it is just Brian and the crowd sings. Toward the end, a Hologram of Freddie comes up and he directs the crowd and sings with them. It is always a highlight of the show for the fans.

Yep he wrote this for Mary Austen as stated above once they stopped having a physical relationship a deep an enduring friendship emerged. He left a large size of his estate to Mary,he said it was right because as he said had things(him) been different they would have married and she would have got it anyway
What a respectful man xx one vision please at Wembley 86 xx

This song has a long and storied history. The studio cut is very different as it’s a lush, piano based song that has an orchestral feel to it.
Written by Freddie, he & Brian decided to strip it down to just his voice & Brian’s 12 string. The result is magic & most performances became the crowd singing to Freddie rather than him delivering the lyrics.
This particular performance has them both performing at their absolute best.

You want them live? Check out "Queen - One Vision Documentary" It's them in the studio (over several days) interacting and writing/playing a song together. It's not very long...about 19 minutes since it's edited, but it really shows them working together. There are even short interviews.
Of course the actual song is great too....that one I'd do the official cuz it's a fun video.

According to the book QUEEN ALL THE SONGS (The story behind every track) written by Benoit Clerc, John Reid the group’s manager, said that Freddie wrote the song for David Minns. Freddie was dating Minns, as his romantic relationship with then girlfriend Mary Austin, was ending. IMO, the song was inspired by Mary Austin. Regardless of who served as the inspiration, it is widely agreed that Mary was one of the great loves of Freddie’s life. The pair remained close, and Mary inherited most of Freddie’s Estate & property.

This is a great song, this is a great show. However, I think this is my least favourite version live. This is an audience participation song, Freddie normally stops singing and lets the crowd take over. He doesn't here because the crowd doesn't sing. Their audio has been added in post. For me, the best version is Rock in Rio. 250,000 people singing to Freddie.
