I bought this bag, used it for 2 to 3 weeks. Problem is that it does not age well at all as already the auto closure system is not working properly anymore. Even worse, one of the 4 panel is kind of broken now and detaching itself. Conclusion is: great idea, not sustainable at all.

How well does the closure system work when it's smushed up inside a bag or inside a bouldering pad? I love the ideal personally, I kinda want to move away from draw string closure systems coz they seem to fray for me, but still I'd like to know if the magnetic closure system can hold chalk in when the bag is compressed in a bag
I dont think you are supposed to rely on the magnetic closure when throwing it in the bag, its just for climbing. You can see that the magnetic bag had a drawstring as well, he just didnt mention it. So you can close it fully just like the blackdiamond.
By the way, this bag has a drawstring. So you can forget to open it just as you can with a regular chalk bag. And you can't even tell if it's opened or closed due to the magnetic closure system.
Really liked and agree with the conclusion. In my words - I would not use it for hard redpoints but if somebody buys it for me I would use it for any casual climbing. I also tend to spill most when sitting down after being lowered...
Just not convinced by this, the problems that it is solving are not one's that I've faced before, i.e. I'm okay with losing 6 seconds opening a drawstring (which if you look closely the Magnetic bag also has), I've never knocked my chalk bag off a balcony or forgot to open it before starting a climb (as I tend to apply chalk before I get on the rock). And even if you are saving chalk while it's in use, I can't see it being as durable as a normal chalk bag. I.e. I do not think this would survive at the bottom of my bag inbetween my full rack and twin ropes. I'd imagine (I'm being careful not to say certain) it wouldn't survive being squashed between awkward, lumpy and (relatively) heavy kit on top of it. Plus: 5:54 hand goes in easy 6:45 seems marginally more awkward You know that saying, "if it ain't broke...." Is this a promotional video as opposed to a review? Because if so then this makes sense. EDIT: Just realised Epic TV is also the EpicTV Shop, penny's dropped.
ive just bought myself one becuase the issue i run into is breaking the drawstring every 2 or 3 months(indoors), so if i dont have to open and close it so much hopefully it lasts a bit longer. outdoors i'm still going to continue using a normal one
@@charlesphillips8062 I am surprised to read this, I have never in my 14 years climbing broken a drawstring. Now that I think about it, I'm only on my second chalk bag, and my first I only stopped using because the zipped pocket broke. Anyway, good luck with it!
It's called „Friday Gear Show“ and that's what it is. No ad, Matt clearly states the disadvantages of the bag which no manufacturer would want to see in an ad.
I guess people also want to earn some money for their work and this is a good compromise for all sides - u dont have to watch it, he gets paid for it and Y&Y gets some customers 😉
I have tried others with chalk barriers and they all feel too restrictive. I need my chalk bag opening to be wide and unobstructed. To counter the issue of chalk falling out you can just use a chalk ball instead.
I just ordered one to use for dog training treats. Seems like this bag is getting really hard to find. I couldn't find one in the US and had to order from the UK. Looking forward to quick access to dog treats during training and no spillage when I inevitably bend over to pull garbage out of my puppy's mouth. (I also climb but will continue using my $5 chalk bag for climbing 😅)
This is a good preliminary test but the testing left much to be desired. A key issue is how easy chalking up is once the chalk bag is open. It would be nice to see more tests showing the difference. It would have been good to see a test on a longer climb that is actually on either indoor climbing holds or real rock. Also its unfair to constantly test the magnetic chalk bag second. The second climb one climbs something is typically going to be easier. A key concern for some is how much of a mess will a chalk bag make in their bag. When closed correctly I could see the magnetic chalk bag spewing chalk everywhere when crushed while a regular bag won't do this. It would be nice to see a comparison with other chalk bags such as the arc'teryx chalk bag which has a special closing mechanism.
I think it a nice chalk bag for the boulder hall. My little chalk bag is kicked away many times and the magnetic system provides the lost of the chalk. Ok, I don´t take my chalkbag with me on a boulder problem but I´m to lazy and I don´t really to chalk up during a boulderproblem.
While I admire efforts to progress the classics, such as the chalk bag, this is solving a basically nonexistent problem which is slight loss of chalk. Any additional resistance, especially on overhanging routes where the bag is hanging free, makes chalking much more annoying and time consuming. Also, no one has ever gotten on a serious send attempt only to find the bag closed when essential... unless the crux comes a move off the deck in which case just restart.
All I‘m saying is that at 2:00 he took as long to Chalk his left hand, when he already had the bag open as he took for both hands with the magnetic one. Just a little sus.
Chalk bag is free standing and has a larger capacity so both hands can get in, and it has more pockets for brushes, tape, skincare etc...hope that helps Huz 😁
You guys skip the most crucial test the twerking test there's so many times that I'm twerking with my chalk bag and I get a dirty bong it's a real problem
why include the bag opening time, nobody opens it while climbing, but before starting the climb. Also, why does he need so much time to chalk his hands the first time but not the second time? Once it's open it should be the same, no need to hold the bag. ALSO, you can clearly see at 2:21 that in the test the bag does NOT close properly, which was supposed to be the whole advantage of this system. Duh. I don't get the second test, who drops their chalk bag? especially when it's open. Scientific? Not quite.. maybe take reviews seriously if you want people to trust you? Maybe it's just me not getting the tests though..

How consistently did you use it during that period? Nearly everydsy for long periods? Curious :)
Chalk is cheaper than dirt who cares.
nick blanchard not if you buy friction labs
Thanks for the honest "review"

@@jersey282 But how well will the magnetic closure last when squished up underneath your rack? I could see the rubber flaps deforming quite easily
@@jersey282 I actually didn't see that at all, but thanks for pointing it out!
@Lion yeah I saw that too, but that only makes it more likely to forget opening it.
It's like Schrödingers Chalkbag. Always closed and always open at the same time XD
By the way, this bag has a drawstring. So you can forget to open it just as you can with a regular chalk bag. And you can't even tell if it's opened or closed due to the magnetic closure system.

Who the hell puts their chalk bag on without opening it first? I do like the idea of the magnetic closure for not dropping your chalk ball though.
ehh some bouldering scenerios I can imagine, but yeha fr

Matt. I know it's a Friday but G.. they must have paid more than a chalk bag for this...

Well, you need to open the string before going up and in the first test the magnetic clip didn't close 🤷♀️
OPEN AND SHUT and the same time, that is like a quantum state of the chalk bag xD
Ooo I see Matt's got himself some Tenya!
a lot fell out on the climb test. not sold. keep the classics :D

It’s like watching a climbing version of Alan Partridge.
Combine this with black diamonds heated chalk bag idea 😂

An office and traverse in one!
Which is the brand of his shoes climbing ??
Tenaya Oasi
seems you had some fun doing this video...
black diamond already use magnets in their chalk buckets, nothing new here
the blackdiamond bag you can shut and pot in your backpack, this new system properbly just spills in the backpack if placed wrong🤷🏾♂️
The magnetic bag had a drawstring as well I think I saw, he just didnt mention it. So you can close it fully just like the blackdiamond.
That first test you can see it didn't close back up all the way.. 2:20
Seems pointless but i like the idea. Ill stick to my homemade bag, Hasnt failed me yet!
Except it doesn't even tightly. lol
I would try it 🖖
looks like a bad tv con where there trying to sell you sumthing
at 2:22 it didn't even close properly lol
Magnets are aid.
Jk, seems like it'd be cool but could be bad for granite
Why not just by a refillable chalk sock🤔?
Christopher Middlemiss so true

Cool but gimmicky
Not that Chalking good , but amusing .
its biased!!!
I hardly feel any difference.
this is so useless. Like, who tf starts climbing a wall with the bag closed, trying to open it mid climb lol
Well this wouldn’t work for me as when I put it in my bag maybe a lump in my harness will push it open causing chalk to leak everywhere
Ah, Matt is back again to influence us to buy more useless crap.
It's a useless idea and execution
