      Thanks a lot Gill. It was a very useful lesson as always.
      Regards what you said about "clean as a whistle" and the reason for using this expression to describe something that it doesn't got any dirty, I think it might be because if there is even a fine particle of rubbish in the whistle, that whistle doesn't sound any more and loses the nature of being a whistle, mightn't be?

    Dear Ma'am Gill,
    This lesson on Musical Expressions which we generally use while referring to various circumstances of our everyday life is quite interesting !
    When you mention here 'change the record' i just remember my childhood days,when there used to be gramaphone records and there was a caption 'His Master's Voice' written on the innerside of the gramaphone box and mother would ask me to bring the records carefully so that it doesn't break,while she would adjust the pin ! That is perhaps a very sweet memory of the olden times ! 😃
    I think,one more expression can be added to the list of these musical expressions : to harp on the same string !
    Ma'am Gill,i like the way you explain things very softly and gently,so it gives us a very soothing effect ! Thank you so much ! 😃

    • @engvidGill
      @engvidGill  2 года назад +6

      Thank you for your memories :-) Yes, "harping on" about something means saying the same thing, or talking about the same thing, over and over again!

    • @devjanichakraborty6204
      @devjanichakraborty6204 2 года назад +3

      Thanks,Ma'am Gill for your kind reply ! Nowadays we really don't get to see such a nice,courteous and knowedgeable person like you ! Actually,these are the qualities of a very good teacher and i feel, knowledge is not complete if an educated person is rude and snobbish.Good behaviour is also a part of our education ! 😃

    • @devjanichakraborty6204

    What a delicious nice lady you are ! I'm often startled at seeing how much, after all, italian and english expressions resemble each other. Change the record, "cambia disco" ; sound like a broken record, "sembri un disco rotto" and music to my ears, "musica per le mie orecchie" are quite identical in the two languages: some (rings a bell for instance) don't have an equivalent in italian but their meaning is quite clear. Some, finally, were a bit obscure to me but you clarified them well. Another precious video, thank you so much!
