    1. Monarch: Because of the gnarly anount of snowfall/pow and super beginner friendly but extremely fun uncharted tree runs(lack of tourists mostly locals)
    2.Crested Butte: Simply beautiful and overall just a great mtn (lack if tourists)
    3. A-Basin: Great mtn and is known to be for people with a higher skillset resulting in a little less tourists
    4.Winter Park: Proximity to Denver and has a little bit of everything for everyone (though parking can sometimes be a pain in the ass)
    5. Eldora: Small mountain easy to access without having to trek a pass or I-70 and is quite close to denver. Also mostly locals and has a lack of tourists but small mountain.
    (Keep in mind I dont have a family or kids) Never been to Telluride or Aspen but definitely would probably be in the top 5 as ive heard so many good things. Personally think keystone is shit aswell as breck, not to mention its consistently the windiest peak ive ever been to.

      @Berg4357123 3 месяца назад

      Yep. Clearly this guy doesn't care about powder, snow quality, and base as it's insane to put Keystone in the top 5 just due to that. If Keystone got the snow of even Breck or Copper then sure, but it doesn't.

    • @nacho_2434
      @nacho_2434 3 месяца назад

      @@Berg4357123 So I don’t think Keystone is the greatest overall, but it does have a couple of things that are some of my favorite runs in CO. The hike up after the top of the outback lift to ride North bowl or south bowl is amazing. One of my favorite things to do in CO is that hike and ride down. Also, tiger run (allegedly “secret spot” but a lot of people know about it) is also pretty sick in a small window of opportunity between having enough snow and before it gets stomped on mid season. Oh and upper windows (above the outpost gondola) is pretty untouched most of the season, people sleep on that area too. Lower windows (below the outpost gondola) gets stomped on all the time (because no hike required). I think because on the map upper windows is labeled double black, which it’s really not, and that you have to hike just a little, detours people from checking it out. But other than north bowl, south bowl, and upper windows, keystone is mostly just like any other resort. When I would go by myself I would ride north bowl, south bowl, upper windows and then go home.

    • @Berg4357123
      @Berg4357123 3 месяца назад

      I agree great areas at Keystone. Some of the states best tree skiing are the largely unmarked/ unnamed areas on North Peak. Problem is Keystone just doesn't get the snow the other places do, and during a below average year that can really limit the mountain. Keystone is likely my 2nd most skied area in CO despite that. It would be my most skied area, but there have just been way too many time where Keystone gets 2 inches, Breck, Copper, Vail /NC get like 8, Abasin gets 6, and Winter Park gets 12. It's basically impossible for me to justify going to Keystone on such days and the above scenario happens all the time. Usually dozens of times each season.

    Keystone is seriously underrated. Personally, I find that Breckenridge has a lot more runs that are just kinda boring, whereas almost all of Keystone's runs are cut really well and I could never be bored on one. But, the skill ceiling at Keystone just doesn't quite get up there. I rank Keystone higher than Breck, but that could change as I continue to progress and get better at skiing.

    Top ski resorts period is hard to do. Probably should do a series of "best ski resorts for X type of skier/rider" - like first timers, beginners, intermediates, advanced, and then perhaps all-round (something for everyone).
    I generally agree with your evaluation of Keystone - it is an intermediate mountain - period. However, it probably has one of the best first-time/learning areas to get that "Colorado" vibe (River Run) since it is at the top of the mountain instead of at the base. If you have never skied/ride before - Keystone is an excellent place to learn. Plus, for those right off the bunny hill - the Endeavor run is pretty chill (one slightly steep section for novice folks). Scout is the next logical progression. Both are right at the top and are served by a slow but adequate double - Ruby. After that, there really isn't any more progression at Keystone, so you need to head over to Breck to continue. Also, Keystone lessons are _slightly_ cheaper than other Vail resorts and their instructors are just as good.
    Now, for "best" learning area I've seen - that would be Beaver Creek - you just don't get that same epic view while learning - but they have all the carpets, plus the ability to progress too.
    I'm still not good enough to enjoy Keystone, so I hit Breck as much as I can until Beaver Creek opens - beginner's paradise.
    If you are a cheap date and didn't get your Epic/Ikon pass like you should, then head to Loveland Ski Area - specifically Valley for beginners and intermediates. For only $50, it is really hard to beat that. Even their main area (Basin) is cheap compared to other resorts. Also, Loveland Ski Area is good for those that just want an "all in one" type lift ticket/rental/lessons combo.

    Vail is my home mountain so the one I skit the most and love the most. I think you do have to separate the mountain from the corporation. I love living in Vail despite the downsides (noise from 70, areas that look pretty artificial, too many tourists). Yes there are more extreme mountains, better parks, etc. but Vail has tons of terrain and still is a pretty awesome mountain. Top five for me, not number one but top 5. My list

    I would think that you have to make a best of for specific activities like for: families, beginners, terrain, locals, vacationers, park… I like Breck for the walk-ability, skiing, town etc… vail for the terrain, and you’re right about Keystone. It gets crapped on for some reason.

    Valid points on Keystone. Love it days after a pow day. Still wouldn't put it in my top 5 though. Mine: 1. Telluride, 2. Crested Butte, 3. Aspen Highlands, 4. Snowmass, 5. A-Basin.

      Also love Keystone on a powder day. Problem is it gets many fewer than even the other Summit County resorts, and it's very rare for it to get more snow on a day then Breck or Abasin. So ya no way it can be top 5 based on that alone.

    Snowmass is my favorite Colorado resort, no matter what the conditions there is always something good to ride there. Crested Butte was another great one, it would be amazing on a powder day. We did not have much new snow when we went last season. Telluride is the only one on your list I have not been to yet. Looking forward to the day when I get to ride it. Keystone has the best early season snowmaking, no other resort even comes close. They also have a boatload of lift capacity, wish Winter Park would take lessons from them. Winter park is the worst run resort in Colorado, lift capacity to Mary Jane sucks and their snowmaking is the worst. Breck is good up high, but the rest of that mountain is a beginner mountain. One day there was all I ever needed to do. The best resorts in Colorado are the ones that are far away from Denver, harder to get the less crowds. I also love my local mountain in Colorado, which I will keep to myself.

    One thing that helped keep the costs down was staying at an airbnb in town and rinding the free bus to the resort/groceries/etc. (and packing lunch)
    Can you point out other resorts with equal or greater skiing/snowboarding (intermediate level) but where that kind of arrangement is possible/convenient?

Granted, I discovered reserved parking last season and I would literally pay $50 to backup to QuickSilver. Considering we often get lockers, it's about an even swap.

But has such a cool little vibe and to me there absolutely are better mountains for things like difficult terrain, parks, veiws and accessibility. I think its just the most fun mountain to screw around on and let loose without worrying/focusing too much about anything. For me there is definitely something to be said about that.

    Not sure what this list is. Not a "resort" list...including Keystone, when you could choose a dozen better or equal hills with MUCH better amenities and/or towns. Not a "ski hill" list...including Breck when you could include Vail or Steamboat...but the most confounding part of those two choice are that they were made leading up to CB, ABSnowmass and Telluride...all three legendsry mountain and town picks. Seems like a midlist criteria change.
