As an African American woman born in North Carolina to parents who experienced Jim Crow first hand and are descendants of African slaves, I do not fully agree with the fact that people have no choice but to be in poverty because of their ancestoral heritage. My parents both grew up in the hood and made sure that none of their children ever had to step foot in it or consider slinging drugs or their bodies to be a legit career path. With that said, I have always thought no one should ever be saying the N word, no matter what your skin looks like or if its followed by an A or hard R. The word is absolutely horrendous to me.
I didn't come from a well to do family at all. But, as you said my Parents loved us and they did their best for us! At 10 our Dad suddenly died. Everything went bad, Mom did all that she could. As an African American woman born in North Carolina to parents who experienced Jim Crow first hand and are descendants of African slaves, I do not fully agree with the fact that people have no choice but to be in poverty because of their ancestoral heritage. My parents both grew up in the hood and made sure that none of their children ever had to step foot in it or consider slinging drugs or their bodies to be a legit career path. With that said, I have always thought no one should ever be saying the N word, no matter what your skin looks like or if its followed by an A or hard R. The word is absolutely horrendous to me.

I didn't come from a well to do family at all. But, as you said my Parents loved us and they did their best for us! At 10 our Dad suddenly died. Everything went bad, Mom did all that she could. I've heard Myron call black people monkeys and NIGRS on several occasions now, this just happen to be the first time I say something. I dont think their is ever an excuse for calling a black person a NIGR no matter how mad they made you. That is coming from a place that is different from frustration.
