Just beautiful John, no one will ever top you, you are the greatest singer ever. Had the pleasure of meeting you, you are such a lovely man. God Bless you my love xx
Johnny Mathis, thank you always for being you, a voice filled with an artistry that colors spheres with love. Again, you honor Mr. Nate King Cole who lead the way with songs that always will remain. I started listening to both of you with my oldest brother's records since I came out mothers womb. My brother was twenty years older than me. With the deepest appreciation and admiration for your elegant interpretation of music. ❤
RIDICULOUS! BRAVO A TRILLION TIMES. JOHNNY MATHIS DEFINES TRIBUTE. A TRIBUTE TO ABSOLUTE GENIUS. THIS IS NOT A CONTEST. SINATRA AND MARTIN WERE AMAZING WONDERFUL TALENTS. MATHIS AND KING COLE WERE BEYOND. I COULD LISTEN WITH PURE JOY AND PLEASURE TO ALL OF THEM FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. FOR ME NAT KING AND JOHNNY ARE Z BEST OF THE BEST BY FAR. THANKS SO DEEPLY FOR PUTTING THIS ON. AND THANK YOU RUclips THE BEST EVER. YOU MAKE LIFE WORTHWHILE.
Agree completely, Joel. It can never be said enough that Johnny Mathis is in a class by himself- he would be delighted - still- to be put at the top with his musical hero, Nat Cole. To this day he still says he is his favorite. Very lucky are we to experience such a legend in our lives. enjoy.
Such an enjoyable tribute. Johnny is just a first class artist. Stardust was so beautiful. Had a young man sing that to me and remains a great memory for me. Thanks for sharing.
What is amazing to me is that he is able to take someone else's signature song and make it his own. As in this special, "Too Young", "Unforgettable" & "Stardust" are now his songs. He hijacked "Moon River" from Andy Williams, does a comparable rendition of "The Way We Were" via Streisand and no one has done "Maria" after hearing his version. Thank you for the Cole tribute. I hadn't seen any of this (how did I miss it???) and it is obvious he was in great form for this special.
Absolute perfection! Johnny at his very best, both in looks and voice. We tend to take his beautiful singing for granted, but his speaking voice is just great too. The backing group couldn't be bettered either. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Tive a honra de ir a um show de Johnny Mathis em 1975 no Recife. Muito educado e conversou com algumas pessoas em português. Um verdadeiro gentleman. Figura iconica. Espetacular.
Johnny is golden. Amazing how he's doing a tribute to dear Nat King Cole but he made all of the songs his own with his unique, dreamy, wonderful voice. God, what's not to love about Johnny Mathis!
Absolutely delicious singing by Johnny, as usual! A lovely tribute to the great NKC; and goodness, Johnny is sooooooo handsome!!!! Thank you for posting such a beautiful tribute by a beautiful singer.
I don't remember the exact yr. It may have be around 1958? at Strawbriges dept. store Broad St & Market St. across from City Hall in Philadelphia, Pa. He had packages in his hand from just shopping. I wondered how great of a track star he would have been also. I ran the Broad St Run for 19 yrs. ( 10 mile race) and track at Overbrook HS. where I saw Wilt Chamberlin coming out when I arrived in 1955. My music teacher at Sultzberger Jr. HS was Joy Goings who later married Jimmy Smith the organist. Music & track field has always been my pleasure. Thanks for all the memories! God Bless You & Yours, Richard Nelson Sr.
I met Wilt twice, such a friendly fellow, loved people. At UCLA when he was playing volleyball, he would train on what I think they called Heartbreak Hill (maybe my memory is not so good). He was wearing lavender sweat pants. I never met Johnny but saw him at an Italian restaurant in North Hollywood in the 70's.
Leonore. I certainly benefit from your many sheerings! Every day . And Leonore: He is ONLY 75 years on paper, NOT by looks and appearance. I lost my housband 8 mnts ago, and Johnny Mathis has given me great comfort, just beeing there. My reality-flight. Hearing him talking on theese clips is so nice also. Berit.
Hi Evelyn, are you still listening to this classic unique voice singing this sweet, emotion touching song that's been in my life's for 73 and a half years. My big bro loved Johnny & I adored my brother. My brother had great taste in music 🥰
Thank you for this very "Special" video of Johnny doing a tribute to Nat King Cole. It comes at a most appropriate time, right before Johnny will receive The Nat King Cole, "Life Time Achievement Award". He looks fantastic and it is good to see some of Johnny's best musicians accompanying him in this video. Great Stuff!
Route 66, walking my baby back home, Super! ....... loved your voice and your style from the time I heard "a Certain smile" - Oh! I forgot your handsome face too!!
I just love the songs in this medley and Stardust is surely one of the greatest songs ever written. I never tire of seeing Johnny in a tux! Johnny's speaking voice is such a pleasure to hear. Thanks for posting another wonderful fine video for others (like me!) to enjoy.
Can you imagine someone doing a tribute to Johnny say some 20 years or so from now? Who could possibly sing remotely like him, with his passion and interpretation? I doubt that person has been born.
very glad you like it Jack, this are all wonderful- thanks for coming by again. Gee - next time you see Johnny over the 'string beans' (:-) say hello for me! kidding. Enjoy . what wonderful memories- and we have such wonderful music of Johnny's to enjoy forever.
@beweau - I'm so sorry for your loss. Johnny has a god given talent of a voice that soothes souls- i do not say this lightly - i've heard this from many and it is my own experience- and in fact what drew to him/his music during a challenging time in life. I'm so glad your'e enjoying these- and thanks to others who share as well. Take care.

@SYLMML So glad you like it- you're very welcome- I know sometimes people can't see the notes under the video b/c of the layout now- I found that same information about the Cole family's honor of Johnny-- so well deserved- and great synchronicity! enjoy:)
@catinhotlanta - There will be no one- never- he is truly, truly one of a kind. Aren't we lucky to have been around during these wonderful years? Enjoy:)
JOHNNY IS THE VERY BEST.......& A GREAT GUY.......I RAN TRACK AGAINST JOHN ROYCE MATHIS, IN FRESNO, CALIF.....1952?.....WEST COAST RELAYS......& JOHN BEAT ALL OF US!..........& JOHN LIVES ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM ME.....I SEE & SAY HI AT THE GELSON'S MARKET...JACK ENGLISH WEST HOLLYWOOD

I must admit he did the moonriver a thousand times better than andy williams original...sorry Andy...RIP i like ur version too of course...
@@kenney1050 I like Audrey Hepburn's rendition but also Johnny Mathis' version is timeless.
Such natural talent. Simply the best.
Fabulous voice and perfect songs
Absolute perfection! Johnny at his very best, both in looks and voice. We tend to take his beautiful singing for granted, but his speaking voice is just great too. The backing group couldn't be bettered either. Thanks for sharing this with us.

they say immitation is the best compliment-- Johnny idolizes Nat King Cole- so what goes around- still keeps going. Thanks for sharing.
Johnny Mathis is a still living connection to a bygone era. I've been lucky enlugh to see him perform, twice, despite waiting so late to do so.
Takes me back to my 20's and at 78 that is hard to do.
