@@gardenerscottageblakeney1316Rose cane borers are grubs of some kind of wasp. I've never seen the wasp, only the grubs which are in the center of the rose cane. The cane will die if you don't cut off and seal that part soon enough and if it's too close to the base, the whole rose will die in a few years. You can buy a product made for sealing them , but I just use white school glue which will dry clear. I live in Kentucky and the borers get in a lot of woody plants here if you cut the stems. Sealing any cut or broken canes keeps them out, but adds a tedious, extra step to pruning.
You have such a lovely garden. That job would take me 10 minutes because I have to seal every cut end to keep borers out.

Golly yes I can imagine it must make pruning very stressful to as well as incredibly time consuming . So glad we don’t have them here .
