    I have gravitated towards the 16-35mm and the 100-400mm lens has been my go to lens but 85mm lens is my all time favorite for that shallow depth of field for me. Good seeing you my friend.

    Good Advice - A nifty 50 is a good first choice.
    My preference is for a 85mm tilt/shift lens so that I can drop the focus where I want it without needing to do any focus stacking.
    Macro/micro lenses tend to be sharper at these distances.
    Reproduction work requires a really good lens.
    Fast glass is not usually needed - most product photography is shot at f5.6-f16.
    In product photography lighting is far more important than the lens...

      I was just reminded that the nifty fifty was the one I loved for event/wedding detail shots.

    Hey Ed! Great video! I also shoot food photography for my work and I find that the 50mm lens range is always the easiest to use while also giving a true to life representation of what we see. Sometimes I would use the 100mm but I find that I need to stand too far away or I don't have enough room to back up to capture all the details. Love your work! :D

    Great topic. I was surprised at the distortion in the 50mm lens.

    Lovely video, very informative. Will definitely buy an 85mm to try it out, as I really liked the results you showed, that's what I was looking for. Thanks!

    How much does the size of the product influence the best focal length?
    What is the best focal length for shooting a pickup truck, a box of chocolates, or a diamond ring?

      If you’re just using one lens, start with a 24-70 or something close to that. It will give you lots of options.

    Video quality is not up to current standard, quite blurry. However, good content and advice. What about focal length for bigger objects, like 0.6m to 2m of size / height? This video is quite focused on small objects.

    • @edverosky
      @edverosky  2 года назад

      Definitely out of focus much of the time lol. Larger objects, same general idea. Avoid distortion with a little distance.

      @@edverosky actually, I meant not up to current standard, but missed that part of sentence. I've edited the comment.

    SIR, I AM USING CROP SENSOR CAMERA. IF I USE 50MM 1.8 LENS.. THE CROP FACTOR MAKE IT 80MM. SO THE CROP FACTOR CHANGES DISTROCTION?

    • @edverosky
      @edverosky  Год назад +1

      The lens behaves the same. The closer you get to the object the more distortion.

      @@edverosky I have been using canon 200d, 50mm stm and Godox sl60w. As I have a crop sensor camera, should I try 100mm to get crisp clear and color corrected photos??

    There is no one lens for product or still life. Because some lens have shorter close focusing distance. And obviously er... products are all different sizes!
