    You are a genius! So I was at Bestbuy and saw a desktop microphone that looked like it had that analog to digital converter you spoke about and went to usb. I had some discounts and stuff so it only cost me like 6 bucks.. I didn’t have an altoid can but I have an old tuner pedal I don’t use so I thought if I just put a male 1/4 inch ok the end of the microphone and plug that into my tuner pedal and it has a female jack on the other side… worked like a charm! I didn’t have a male jack so I sacrificed an old guitar cable cutting and splicing an end on it. The only had part was soldering because the microphone had such crappy small wire and I didn’t have any clamps or 3rd hand to help.. but I got it eventually. 🙏🏻 Thank you! You saved me a lot of money! I just converted an old 2013 Mac mini I had that was useless because apple wont let you download app’s anymore, so I installed Linux os unbuntu studio.. it’s amazing it comes pre installed with guitar ix and pretty much anything you could want to create a recording studios.. and it is free and open source

    1) I found a $7 NanoPatch+ which is essentially just a volume pot like you said. I put it in line before the altoid interface and it worked perfectly.
    2) I learned you can also run a signal through headphone aux cables with an adapter

    • @heavymetalATC

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to come back and comment CWB.
      1) That is a great idea! Good clean signal with a buffer. I will always advocate using some kind of pre existing module you have over having to go through bunch of BS for not as good a result. Good thinking.
      2) Oh yes I had recorded a few diy "albums" that way back in the old days hahaha, you can get a decent sound into a laptop that way iff you have good gear intfront of the soundcard but I remember going through hell to get it to work with old DAWS as far as latency and "asio" driver crap allowing multi track recording while outputting audio through the same card so you needed the ASIO4ALL pluggin... this usb thing will cut a ton of that hassles on older windows pc for sure.
      I dont know much at all about interfacing with android or apple devices which it seems many used this for, I guess makes sense nowadays.. my @ss is older than i look and sound and outta touch with new fangles techno logicles. ;)

      Thanks Glenn. Yes, they have changed it to only 8 min. recently but that is only for mid video ads to appear it will still be able to have an ad before the video so it will create some revenue. I don't want to throw you people under the bus and be that guy who pads out the vids to a longer time for no reason and puts 4 ads in an 8 min video. It will only be a difference of about 15 cents a day for me so I'd rather make it more watchable and try to build a better relationship with the subs.

    Very clever idea. How would you make a multi track audio interface??

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  3 года назад +4

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. If you wanted to record multiple instruments to a single track you could plug the output of a mixer into this. But, if you are going for multiple instruments on multiple tracks you could take a box and put a few inputs on it and a few of these inside of it hooked to a usb hub and run one wire out and the computer would number the inputs automatically and you could assign them to different channels in a DAW and record multiple tracks at one time. Other than that there are chips on the market that can achieve the same thing but with much more soldering and circuit design. I hope this helps, if you try it out let me know how it goes. If you have any problems or further questions feel free to drop a comment.

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  2 года назад

      Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write a comment Kaosevig. Yeah, If its already multi channel, you can change the plugs from 1/4" inch to XLR you might have to figure out exactly what to do with the sheild ground, I would say put it on the metal enclosure and maybe pick up a ground from the sheild wire of the usb cable? I guess I'm just failing to understand the question completely, If you are saying to take the interface apart solder in some XLR jacks to the board where the 1/4s are and put it in a metal box or like a pedal enclosure absolutely, just make sure the board doesnt short on the metal but with it inside the box and with the sheilding of the enclosure and 3 lead xlrs it should be very quiet hum wise.

    • @chrish7336
      @chrish7336 Год назад

      Have you tried using the USB plug in the back of the unit? You may already have the interface available with that unit and don't even know it.
      Also, keep in mind that XLR is a balanced signal. So inputs and outputs are looking for or providing a positive and negative signal, not left & right.

    • @chrish7336
      @chrish7336 Год назад

      @@heavymetalATC Instead of a pot I am potentially considering a switch with various resistors to set a standard attenuation instead of a variable. Just have to see what I have available to play with. Current attenuation cable I am using is a 100K resistance. Allow the mixer output to be accepted by a mic input on pc.
      With this I may not need as big of a resistor but would be good to keep it there anyway.

You can type "1/4 female jack" into ebay or amazon and find many different options but I just checked and was floored by the prices, wooh they have certainly come up in the last year. Seems about 6 bucks is average for a 2 pack on amazon. The only devices I can think of that you could salvage one from would be things you would probably not want to destroy unless they were completely broken and just junk parts, like an old radio with the 1/4 headphones or a broken guitar pedal or amp or maybe an old broken record player?

But I have had reports of another viewer using it on his phone and getting great results.
