National Anthem of Finland: Maamme

"Maamme" ("Our Land") is the unofficial national anthem of Finland. The music was composed by the German immigrant Fredrik Pacius, with original Swedish words by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, and with this music it was performed for the first time on 13 May 1848. Originally it was written for the 500th anniversary of the city of Porvoo and for that occasion it was Runeberg himself who wrote the music. The poem was influenced by the Hungarian patriotic hymn "Szózat" (Appeal) of Mihály Vörösmarty, both in style and content.
The melody of "Maamme" is also used for the national anthem of Estonia with a similarly themed text, "Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm" ("My Fatherland, My Happiness and Joy", 1869). It is also considered to be the ethnic anthem for the Livonians as "Min izāmō" ("My Fatherland").
FRANÇAIS : Maamme, en suédois : Vårt land, est l'hymne national de la Finlande. Le titre signifie « Notre pays » dans les deux langues. La musique a été composée par Fredrik Pacius et les paroles sont la première et la dernière strophe d'un poème en suédois de Johan Ludvig Runeberg. La musique sert également à l'hymne national estonien, Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm.
SUOMI: Maamme on Suomen kansallislaulu. Se on alkujaan Johan Ludvig Runebergin ruotsiksi kirjoittama runo, jonka on säveltänyt Fredrik Pacius. Runeberg kirjoitti sanat eräänlaisena vastavallankumouksellisena runona kevätkesällä 1846 tunnelmissa, jotka enteilivät vuosien 1847-1848 ”Euroopan hullua vuotta”. Hän tarkoitti runonsa sävellettäväksi ja julkaisi sen itse säveltämänään vuonna 1847.
Paciuksen säveltämänä Vårt land -runo sai ensiesityksensä ylioppilaiden Floranpäivän juhlissa vuonna 1848. Runeberg edesauttoi Paciuksen sävellyksen asemaa sisällyttäessään sen kirjoittamansa Vänrikki Stoolin tarinoiden, jonka esirunona Vårt land oli, liiteeksi samana vuonna. Yksiselitteistä tukea Runeberg ei Paciuksen sävellykselle antanut, sillä seuraavassa painoksessa oli liitteenä kolme muutakin sävellystä. Kansallislaulun asemaan laulu nousi, kun se sai suomenkieliset sanat nimellä Maamme. Laisäädännössä laulun asemaa Suomen kansallislauluna ei ole vahvistettu. Suomalaiset sanat perustuvat Julius Krohnin johtaman runoilijaryhmän käännökseen vuodelta 1867.
Nykyisen muotonsa Runebergin runo sai Paavo Cajanderin korjausten jälkeen, mutta kansallislauluna lauletut ensimmäinen ja viimeinen säkeistö ovat peräisin Krohnin ryhmän alkuperäisestä käännöksestä. Maamme-laulu levisi ympäri Suomea erityisesti kuorojen ja kansakoulun avulla. Kansakoulujen laulunopetuksessa näkyi selvästi kansallinen herääminen, ja Maamme oli laulunopetuksen suosituin laulu vuosien 1869-1881 aikana.
