    One of the very few air powered guns I would carry for self defense. I just wonder how well those cartridges will keep pressure over time? Looks like each round is hitting as hard as a .380 or .25 caliber bullet! That my friends is plenty enough for REAL Self defense in most situations with fast reloads. In certain states like California, this would be my self-defense tool! Great Video, Sir.

    The whole barrel is full of water, blocking the slug, that has to be pressed out first. An harpoon is complete filling the barrel so no water has to be pressed out first. I seen a video of somebody shooting a firearm under water also without doing any damage.

    You need the Heavy spears in order to penetrate effectively anything underwater, because even a 50 cal Projectile will lose speed and power instantly!
    So relatively slow but heavy spear/ projectile is necessary..
    Myth Busters had an awesome episode where they shot different calibers of guns in a pool to see how quickly the projectile s would stop in the water..
    I use different types of pneumatic spearguns when spear fishing, and even the most powerful ones, can only shoot a relatively short distance, and you have to be close, in order to hit the fish properly!
    Your videos are awesome by the way! 👍👍👍👍👍

    The shells are going to be the future for air guns no doubt about it,
    I think we're going to see a progression like with firearms,
    It won't be long before we see these are stacked in magazines and then gas tapped off and a carrier added for automatic magazine fed air guns.,
    Plus tube fed pump guns are surely only round the corner.

    There was a rather obscure rifle some years back that worked on a similar principle. It was made as a Springfield trapdoor rifle replica. It also used reloadable cartridges. It was 9mm, and I think they marketed it more as a target rifle. I don't know what its operating pressures were, but it had a rig you hooked the cartridges up to, and I think it could refill up to 6 of them at a time. I believe the cartridges were valved, rather than using burst disks like the Harpoon. I figured someone would eventually recycle that idea, and AEA did so.

    Aea Developed a 1911 semi auto magazine fed 200ftlb 6shot repeating pcp air handgun called aea the one running off similar cartridges. They had a 5shot revolver as well. A semi auto mag fed rifle with 400ftlb. A bolt action sniper ect. They were already made almost ready for selling to the point where the website had them on there with all the specs and everything the 1911 had a 750usd price tag. Then covid hit and they abandoned it. Well it looks like they kept the double barrel side by side 50cal rifle because thats what the harpoon is they just cut the barrel down and removed the stock. All of these cartridge guns could utilize harpoons

    • @Doobie603
      @Doobie603 Месяц назад +3

      Those cartridges are just like the ones in the Defender. They are supposed to be tighter than a frogs butt so they won't let you down in a defensive situation, that is what the Defender is primarily for. They use a burst disc so I think it is a good system.

      Very good questions, and I can only answer your first one with certainty, as I’ll need more time to see how well the cartridges hold air and pressure.
      The ‘ammo holder’ holds the pellets quite well. I only had one loose one, that slipped off, out of the dozen that I shot. Generally they require a good amount of pressure to stick them in. Especially the big 300gr slugs

    💡Put a piece of tape on the front of the barrels thus not allowing the barrels to be filled with water blocking the projectile💥 This only works for the spears, NOT for slugs because nothing will work for slugs under water👍

  • @seanfoltz7645
    @seanfoltz7645 Месяц назад +1

    *chuckles* You've never done any research on how far bullets penetrate water, have you? It's ok as Hollywood gives the impression they do - as you saw, they don't - most rifle and pistols fired into water will only go 3-5 feet before they do like those slugs did.
    Did recall the Defender, so at $439, that actually makes this one in the same price point as a mid-price spear gun.
    Please do a follow up once the spears are available as it takes a lot of strength to cock a speargun that has enough power to drop anything bigger than a baitfish, so something like this is potentially far more useful as a speargun than firing slugs above the water.
    OK, so just to save you damaging your pool - if you can tie the harpoons off to the gun, measure everything out first and make sure you don't have more line than you do pool.
    If you're firing them without lines, score a chunk of plywood or something to use as a backstop - cost to redo a pool lining in Florida is around $10k on average.
    Grab a cinderblock and use that to keep yourself underwater - just put it on the bottom of the pool and hold onto it with your free hand - you look light enough that it should be more than sufficient to keep you in place - put a bathtub matt between the pool and the cinderblock to avoid accidentally damaging your pool.
    I'm hyped on this one as myself, wife and friends hit Key West every year to do the spiny tail season and we normally bang out some spear fishing, but the wife and some of the others aren't physically strong enough to load spearguns so have to stick with the sling spears which lack range and effectiveness.

    • @AirgunAlley
      @AirgunAlley  Месяц назад +1

      Hahaha how did you know that Saving Private Ryan along withRobert Capa’s photographs and restored footage of D-Day were my primary sources of research??
      Jokes aside, I know that a bullet coming INTO a body of water is quickly stopped. But I wasn’t too sure of how far a projectile shot IN the body of water, would go. But as I said, this was merely a test to see if and how this thing worked underwater.
      A full underwater video is indeed in the pipelines and I appreciate your very valuable suggestions on how to prevent me from owning my landlord tens of thousands of dollars! And on how to actually be able to stay underwater without floating right back up every second.
      As always Sean, thank you

    • @seanfoltz7645
      @seanfoltz7645 Месяц назад

      @@AirgunAlley LOL on Private Ryan, but yeah, bullets do even worse underwater, hence the reason there have been no successful attempts at making real guns that fire underwater - water is simply too dense.
      Now that I think about it, don't try firing slugs underwater anymore as it can be dangerous due to the water pressure potentially preventing them from coming out and thus causing either the barrel to blow or the back of the gun to blow out - this is why folks always drain the water from their gun barrels before firing.
      Oh, that's a rental - yeah - even more important to be careful about damaging the pool lining then - cut some pool noodles down one side and slide them onto the bottom and edge of the plywood - you may need some more cinderblocks on the bottom with rope running through holes drilled in the plywood to keep it from floating away.
      I hit Key West every year for the spiny tail season as, personally, I think they're tastier than the Maine lobsters, especially when fried, so that involves either free diving or using a hookah rig. We do spearfishing too as noted, so using dive belts and getting our buoyancy to neutral is something I've got some experience with. No need for a real dive belt though as even a cheap one with the weights - the most expensive part - will run you $30-40 while the cinderblock and bath matt you already have.
      You look like you would need around 10-12 pounds in salt water, but fresh water is 4-5 pounds less since it's less buoyant, so yeah, the cinderblock should keep you on the bottom of the pool - just don't slide your arm through it less you accidentally get stuck, panic or have any one of a number of weird things that can and will happen underwater occur - hold on with one hand and that'll keep you in place long enough to make a clean shot while still allowing you to instantly release the block should something odd happen.
      Make sure your wife or some other adult is supervising too - nothing should happen but on the off chance it does, you don't want her finding out something stupid happened when she or the kids walk out an hour later and find you floating face down - I'm not trying to be morbid, instead, I take water safety as seriously as I do gun safety and having used both extensively during my 52 years walking and swimming this Earth, my experience is that most accidents happen when you're positive that an accident won't happen and are thus unprepared for it.
      PS - when I say something stupid happening, I'm talking bad luck, not personal stupidity - running over a nail and getting a flat tire is something stupid happening.
