iIt's handy to know that VW used the ground as the switch to allow the steering box as one commutator as if they had of switched the positive they would have needed two brush assemblies. Very clever the Germans.
Before I watch all of this, do you know if it applies to a 71? With the horn ring off, the horn can be activated by touching the ground wire to any metal on the steering wheel. Once I put on the horn ring, the horn activates and no matter how much I loosen the screws, it sounds.

The horn here runs off a [ NEGATIVE WIRED RELAY ] that operates with ground wire to beep the horn.
