Apropos your commentary as to provision of check-rails on curved track, I want to add the following comments:
As I have learnt from my father, the wheel of the train may derail on curve because of centrifugal force acting away from the centre of the curve. To avert this derailment on a sharp curve having degree of curvature measuring 4 degrees or above, the following actions are mandatory:
1. Provision of ample can't or super elevation on outer rail.
2. Provision of the check rail along the inner rail of the curve to control the overriding of the wheel. Check rail also lessens the wear & tear of the outer rail while the train is negotiating a curve.
This ensures safe running at higher speed.
