    After 42 years of climbing... I still remember my first climb! A 65 foot pole.. I was terrified!

      My last day working was when we were required to change to them. I have a poster of my last climb in my office.

      I'm assuming you got used to it lol? I'm thinking about doing this. I don't think I'll be scared of heights if I just learn to trust my safety equipment.

      @@ghalgren I don't want to go to a real college because I think they are useless. I believe in learning on the job. So this looks perfect for me. I hear the pay is good as a journeyman lineman.

      @@bernardberben4852 check out Northwest Line College (NLC) in Meridan, Idaho.
      I have a student there now that is a bit over half way through the classes. He has been offered 3 apprenticeships so far.

    Just had my first day of gaff training. spent 8 hours just holding climbing positions... my arms are noodles now haha.

    I hope I'm able to climb again. I had a total left hip replacement in December of 2019. Been out of work since mid November of 2019. I miss it so bad. Nothing in the world like being a lineman!! Be safe out there brothers!! Climb as much as you can for me!!

      @@charadremur333 I wish. Doctors say I'm totally disabled now due to what I have. This illness attacks the joints until the point they have to be replaced. Sucks cause I miss my linemen brothers and doing linework!! Thanks for asking! Take care!!

      @@gunzoutnodoubt6627 thanks brother!! Unfortunately the doctors say I'm totally disabled. I'm waiting for the other hip to be replaced and having back problems now. My family doctor thinks the ortho hit a nerve during my hip replacement!! Thanks again for asking!! Climb for me!! Stay safe out there brother!!

      Those are broken in poles, those are the best poles to climb. Cutout city are the poles that nobody climbs, those frozen torn to shreds by the weather poles.

      The ones we’ve got right now are way past due. 10 week program and there’s already 2 classes then about 5 weeks in our class. That pole he’s on in the video is just about the perfect pole.

      "TO THE TOP" thats what I hear lol . Im in 600v school now. 75 days on the pole . 2 weeks of intense climbing and framing and then services and single faze transformers lol

    I hope they did the first step of learning how to put on their squeeze properly. Face the caribeaners out always. Or you can go for a nice long ride down the pole.

    new climbers are the funniest thing, cause it is easy as could be to climb the real challenge is when you have stuff you are climbing with and have to actually do work on the top of the pole haha

    You know what's funny about this? Is the trainer Mel in this video literally just left NLC last month in 2022 to take a job with PG&E. Mel is an absolute unit 😂😂

    pole climbing is kind of fun but for people who are scared of heights it freaks them out definitely made me a bit nervous my first time because u are relying on those tiny hooks but with the bucksqeeze even if you do loose your footing and drop u wont slide down so no reason to be scared with that setup

    I always climbed how it was comfortable. Ninety feet up foreman told me to safety off over the hardware. I did it. It restricted my movement. So I safetied under the Hardware. I could move then.
