When I heard about Aaron Marshall of @Intervalsmusic signature Schecter I was intrigued for a few reasons. Firstly, Schecter are making great stuff like the Nick Johnston signature that I tried last year, and secondly, I think Aaron is a pretty specific and picky guy. And so therefore, the specifications of this guitar are really pretty high quality stuff at this price range....

Sometimes I don't watch your gear reviews for the products but only for your wonderful playing.
Like Chris Buck, you inspire me.
That's very kind of you to say!
Like any great guitarist, John always sounds like John to me. It’s uncanny; regardless of the guitar, amp, modeler, pedal, or extra bits he is demoing, he just sounds like John and it’s great! 🎸
Schecter is winning on so many levels today it's crazy. I bought an SLS Elite last year and was blown away.
I’ve actually been looking into getting one of these the past few days but hadn’t been able to find more than a couple of reviews on RUclips. You’ve seemingly answered my prayers with the timing of this upload
The wenge neck might just be the best feeling piece of wood out there IMO. I have a sun valley shredder exotic that has a similar neck and I can't imagine getting rid of this guitar because of the way it feels.
Too bad it is critically endangered.
Panga panga is a great sustainable alternative, and I can't tell them apart.
Another potential alternative is mutenye (aka benge), but it's not yet used in electric guitars, only acoustics at the moment.
I have the hardtail version of the exotic and it is a great guitar - love the pickups in it as well
I very recently bought a Nick Johnston HSS which I love. Then saw this Aaron Marshall model and based on looks alone it’s straight on my list. Never thought I’d be a Schecter guy. Amazing intro as always, John.
I've gotten to know what your playing sounds like pretty well over the last couple of years. You sound really good on this one. You're clearly in control all the way.
Hi John you should consider making musical compilations of your compositions!
I'm still waiting for him to release all the stuff he's done in the past months on Spotify
Agree 10000% we should have 10 albums worth by now.
Your intro track was beautiful. This guitar looks so sweet. And Aaron Marshall is phenomenal. 🤘
That teal looks so good, also really love Schecter guitars. I ended up grabbing one of the Nick Johnston's in Atomic green after seeing the one you played.
Same here! Incredible guitar, and the atomic green is 👌
Great playing, guitar looks amazing. Was lucky enough to meet Aaron at a local show a couple years ago and get a picture with him, great guy! Maybe at some point you could get your hands on an aristides
Been playing schecters since 2004? All types, and different gigs and concerts , never let me down and always at a solid price for what you get and get out of them
I think this is your best playing I’ve ever heard. I think this guitar really fits you and your style. Nice review!
It's the first time I see one of your vids and damn was I missing out. I clicked for the product review and after hearing you play I forgot this was a review. Amazing phrasing, great technique. Definitely going to check out your channel very often. Find of the week for me haha.
I like it, sharp looking fiddle there. Really like that polished chrome hardware look against the green finish. Fret ends look nice and rounded.
Full piece wenge neck reminds me what Cort did during the early 2000s with their basses B4 Artisan Fretless 😋
Such a nice feeling under the hand, but those days are long time gone…
Your production on those intro jams has gotten so good, love the piano. Inspiring playing as always
This is my favorite guitar of all times. I bought it not ever hearing of Intervals, was just browsing the site based on the specs alone and this hit the goals. To this day i think it plays better than my Ibanez PIA, sounds better than my Gibson Les Paul standard, and is my favorite guitar that can do it all
your playing is absolutely incredible!
Reverse headstock means less friction on the higher strings = smoother bends, also you should have better resonance on the thicker strings. I would like to reverse for those reasons, but I don't like to have the tuners reversed.... FWIW
the fretboard tends to be too flat on many guitars like this..never liked that
Love your playing, brother.
It is encouraging to see how frequently budget guitars are outshining more expensive options these days. And even the good expensive options don't have as much of a gap over the more affordable gear it seems. Love the diversity in the gear space! Absolutely insane playing as always.,
Since when is a $1500 considered a "budget" guitar? $1000 easily puts you into the 98th percentile when it comes to instrument quality these days. $1500 and you're about as good as any gigging musician could ever ask for without needing any modifications out of the box. My mexican Charvel has at least 500 shows under it's belt and all I've done is put a Gotoh floyd on there. I paid all of $700 for that thing and it's been an absolute unit of a workhorse.
@@FastRedPonyCar when high end guitars are $3k+, I’d say $1,500 is pretty budget friendly for a guitar of this quality. There are certainly cheaper options that are even more budget friendly. My point is that $1500 is a great price for a guitar like this when compared to many of its higher priced competitors. I don’t even notice a difference between a $1500 guitar and a $3500 guitar these days aside from looks in most cases. I have high end guitars and my favorite one was under a grand. I think we’re making the same point, and you’re right that $1500 isn’t “budget”. I more just meant that you don’t need to spend $3k+ to get a good guitar these days.
@@brandongullion6353 I made the mistake of paying over $3k for a guitar once and never again (Parker Mojo Fly). I know guys who still buy guitars for over $2500~ish and they're either PRS's or Suhr or something along those lines. Great instruments of course and I've played enough of those to appreciate their impeccable craftsmanship but way over the line for me personally.
I paid around $2300 for my Ernie Ball JP6 years ago and I think that was honestly the upper limit to what I think an instrument was truly worth.
And another thing for me personally, I'm not comfortable taking instruments like that out to these dive bars and clubs. Too many drunk idiots. My Tokai and Charvel both have countless battle wounds from all the years of gigging. To subject a $3000 instrument to that would be criminal.
I have one and love it. Time for you to dive into some Intervals-style Djenty goodness. And there's definitely a US version coming unless something falls through. I heard it from a very solid source 🙂
Agree 10090%. John check out Wide Eyes; Widek; Disrant Dream; Scale the Summit; TesseracT; Sky Harbor for some great ideas/ tones.
Yes, Wenge is a bit heavier than Candian maple. It's lighter than Ebony, but harder. Must be a pretty bright guitar with the Stainless frets, but that's a really nice tone you got in the intro. I have Wenge neck (and FB) w/Stainless frets on a guitar, and I'm not crazy about the super bright tone.
Dang bro everytime I'm thinking about a new guitar you get your hands on one and then instead of thinking about one, I end up owning one.
Beautiful guitar and wonderful playing ..
Got it couple of weeks ago! Love it, having some small tuning stability issues but besides that all perfect.
Sweet! I saw Aaron play this axe on a Rick Beato episode.
Looks like you BONDED with it already, What a review, only knock I got it seems it only comes in one color, maybe I am wrong, would be nice to see one in some kind of bare wood finish perhaps. I remember when Schecter was a supplier for parts like mainly Fender stuff, think pete townsend Rough boys/tele days, He was one of their 1st big Artist users. Wow that neck must feel like Butter, Loved the intro, was that the grammatico preset??
The Nick Johnston USA is incredible, try to get your hands on one, it's my all time favorite guitar
Did you see that new Schecter DV-6 guitar? Looks pretty cool
Intervals is one of my fave prog/djent bands. That's a great looking guitar. Schecter gives alot for your $ in the non Artists series. Would love one. Keep it up JNC. BTW Pwtrucci is THE MAN and my fave Prog guitar god.
WTF - I also considered to get one of these, thanks for the first impressions 😎🎸
Hey JC, awesome content and playing! (As always)
You mention selling your gear often.... how can we know where to find the gear you have for sale?
What amp do you use?
How do you get your position 2 tone so thick?
Great video and that guitar is a beauty. I've been a fan of Schecter for many years and have had many of their USA and import guitars. I really enjoyed when their import lines had a larger line variety of neck sizes (radius). With larger hands thin pattern necks aren't an option for my purchases, again missing the variety.
John your one of the finest player I’ve heard .. any lesson of your phrases fluidity whether is scales or techniques ..(legato as well as fast melodic picking) ??
Gorgeous guitar, Jon! And the pickups seemed to respond very well to your style of playing! Btw; “wenge” is actually pronounced as “wengay” and no, I’m not joking. It’s a wood species from Africa if I recall correctly.
Yeh that's what I realised midway through the video ha! Stone Hengay it is
@@johnnathancordyHow does it compare to the ibanez az224 you got? tone wise since both are basswood
Hello! Quick question. I saw another video where someone reported a ringing noise even after foam padding the nut and between the springs. Did you by any chance experience any ringing? 🤔🤔
Man i just have a big doubt about selling my American vintage 70 strat for this particular model. I have that guitar since i’m basically a kid and i really love it, but with my tastes and because of my necessities I struggle sometimes playing more modern stuff with it.
Maybe in a couple year i will pick a better strat working; It has great value and is an important memory, but it is still a guitar, and for me it is much more important what inspires me and that entices me to play and improve. At the moment on the Fender I still feel like I'm going a little slower.
What do you think ?
Been eyeing this since it came out. So tempted. I always prefer hardtail though bc floating bridges are a PITA
Finally a Superstrat on this Channel!!

@@johnnathancordy thanks john!
Nice looking guitar finish and neck color. I'm not a fan of the Blade Switch in that location, as my hand inadvertently bumps into those, and the Volume knob might be a bit to far too to easily use for volume swells. 🤷
not sure you've done one already but I'd love for you to break down some of Aaron's tones off the Circadian album. Sounds like a lot of Marshall based tones but my ear isn't discerning enough to get quite the right sound, esp on the HX
The scale length will remain the same, but I'd argue that the thicker string (the one with the longer string past the nut) would feel bendier/slinkier with the reverse headstock as there's 'more string there to pull'.
I'd argue the main reason for reverse headstocks are aesthetics, as personally, I'd rather my higher (in pitch) strings feel slinkier rather than the thicker strings. I also personally feel tuning is a little more cumbersome.
Schecter are certainly putting out some great guitars John. The lack of string trees is always a plus in my book and from your video the sound is top-notch. I'd be interested to hear the clean and "in-between" sounds when you get around to it, and also your thoughts on how the guitar balances on a strap standing up - as in is there any "neck dive". 🙂🤔
Is the feeling of the neck comparable to the Suhr elliptical?
Hi John, would you say that this is a good guitar to go with for Satch and Vai type style playing based on your review?
I wish it had more colour options
Check out the Schecter MV-6 mate
Hey John, how hot are the pickups? Will the neck humbucker fake jazz?
You're as good as it gets, truly. Incredible playing. It's bloody when-ghey M8 - might'nt be right about that, bruv.
This or Charvel dk24 HH ?
Is it ok to buy a guitar for its colour?
Yes. Yes it is.
Funny, can't feel the extra string with the reverse headstock, but wrapping a Les Paul changes the feel completely?
I need to experiment with that- does it make a real positive difference do you find?
@@johnnathancordy . I won't do it on principle. Gibson is already a shorter scale length.
Drool. Nice playing too.
This dude is on schecter now?
I've got an old Fender with a reverse headstock, and apparently it makes the strings 'looser' ( for want of a better word). Easier to play.
Why hasn’t someone given John Cordy a signature guitar? He’d probably design a joke into it somewhere.
Amen let's get a petition going.
I was so thrown off by a "weng" neck. I've always heard it pronounced wen-ge.
Stuff is the worst wood in the world to work with. It's hard a rock and has huge splinters that get infected almost immediately. Sure is pretty though!
While the guitar is GREAT when it comes to look, the neck profile and feel and, most importantly the sound, on mine, the factory setup was horrible. I noticed quickly that the setup would require more elaborate work. Brought it to my favorite luthier, and he pointed out the problems: Neck horribly adjusted (bow), nut slots not filed deeply enough, and there is a design problem with the bridge: The strings run over the edges of the hole in the base at an angle, and so the wound strings run into friction there, which causes tuning instabilities. This would be very very hard to fix.
So its another 100-150 bucks for my luthier to correct the setup. Quote: "The string action is pretty much unplayable" (that's what it felt like). It's such a good sounding and pretty guitar, but omg... the setup...
You play beautifully
Something about the bolt on neck with ferrals on the screw heads is cheap looking to me. People keep trying to convince me that's not an issue, but I'm not buying it. Bolt on necks need heel plates.
Cort guitar for 1500 pounds that's quite a lot to be honest. The features set and look is amazing though.
Very interesting guitar, but not for me. You talk a lot about Indonesian-made guitars but you haven't demoed any Corts, considering they are the factory's own brand. I have been consistenly blown away by what they produce -and not just "for the price"-.
I've only seen one other review of this guitar and was this one.
ruclips.net/video/eyDmW5SY75M/видео.html
and here ruclips.net/video/zzopMJiBk9c/видео.html
The sympathetic noise was an "oh, boy... that sucks hard" for me. Specially for the price.
It seems they've fixed that or was a one off. Otherwise you'd would've noticed that.
Just went to make sure this wasn't happening on mine - definitely isn't.
I'd expect that was a pretty specific thing to that guy's guitar....?
@@johnnathancordy it's weird because that happened to him with the 6 and the 7 string, both with different bridges. :-S
Glad that didn't happened to yours
$1,400 for an Indonesian made guitar, no thanks!! A lot of other better options out there in that price range.
Could be a good guitar. Sure for $1400 you may get a made in USA fender but will the value be there???
Kiesel
This is my issue.. would love to try this model and strandbergs but no reason for them to be this expensive
Definitely agree. The schecter SVSS exotic line is similar to the specs of this guitar and is made in korea for $1250. I feel like even with the "artist" upcharge, and the different hardware, $1250 would've been a better price for the AM-6, especially since it's not made in korea.
@@jogmas12 Wenge neck, ebony board, jumbo SS frets....you have to get a custom shop fender to get specs like these costing you triple that price if not more.........having said that though i cant really vouch for its resale value....if you are a guitarist that wants a workhorse of a guitar, that ll play it to the ground then i would get it and be extremely happy with it(it screams superior quality )....BUT if you are one of those that keep the guitar for a couple of months and then trade it for the next best thing like a maniac then it might not be the best choice at this price point......
Just buy an FGN
I almost can't trust your reviews because you can make any guitar sounds amazing
I love your content
The headstock is so ugly. I would have bought it if not for it.
