The great Leroy Troy. He's done Marty Stuart show and alot of his work was with the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band along with 2 solo albums and a few other projects. He's worked with the best of the best that were and are alive during his time and still promotes that same downhome style from back then. National treasure that man is.
@@Mo11y666 I checked Wikipedia, and found he debuted on the Opry in 1988, and was named the National Old-Time Banjo Champion in 1996. Yeah, Troy Boswell (Leroy Troy is his stage name) has become a serious banjo player. Well, not _real_ serious, if he's doing Uncle Dave's material, but, well... oh, you know what I mean.
Look how many brackets are on that banjo....
I'd say about 30 I've got an old banjo with 34 hooks on it
@@Popcorn_Kernel Why do you reckon older banjos had so many brackets?
@@zachb8012 not my theory, but someone suggested it may have been the lower quality metal needed more support in the early days, then later more brackets became a marketing tactic. More brackets, more better, kind of thing.
@@Tasmanaut My husband is a long-time clawhammer-style banjo player and is a scholar at heart, so you'd better believe we have banjo books in our house. He says some of the earliest banjos made in the 19th century had only six brackets. Evidently, bracket creep began when the banjo became a popular parlor instrument in the late 1800s and mass production began. My sweetie said, "A lot of cheap banjos hit the market, and they thought the extra brackets looked good. Past a certain point, they're just decoration." So, yeah. It's people acting like crows again, going after the shiny, shiny things.

First saw leroy and cordell on a channel 4 programme in the 80s called story of banjo, it seems so long ago its hard to believe, cordell has passed away and leroy is around 60 !!... my god....where did the yuuurs go !! 😂
