I've just finished building this. It's an amazing set and i appreciate the engineering but how do you actually demonstrate it? It's not the kind of thing you can push around the floor.
In the first gear, you can feel more resistance when you push the car. When you go to the 8th gear there’s less resistance and the car can go a bit further with the same push with the first gear
Question: I don't think the numbers and ratio calculations mattered to me as much as the actual mechanism. I think the way it was presented was a bit confusing with the arrows and all, and the concept at some point was just left behind in favor of talking about the numbers. My point is, I want to learn how to design a gearbox mechanism, rather than learn the Technic Sian model's gear ratios. Do you have a good source for technic gearbox function? The problem I ran into occurs at 4:37. Until this point, it was clear where the power is going. But the arrows in this section are extremely confusing, because not all of the gears are properly visible, and your voice is just saying "here to here to here" without referencing anything visual. It's unclear whether the torque leaves the confines of the "box", the bluish gray frame, into the external gears, or if there is an additional gear inside the box that transfers the power. Beyond this point, you stop talking about the mechanism of the actual gearbox, and only talk about the multiplier and the ratios. The complexity I was trying to understand is in the 4-transmission gearbox.
Thank goodness for your detailed video. From this, I realized I had the stud on the green stepper mechanism reversed, such that the R side would not rotate through speeds 1-4, and would not engage the left side every 1 revolution. Pulled the chassis in half, flipped the stud on the green stepper around, and voila...works as you advertise!

8:00 definitely fixable. Replace it with a solid 24T gear. I also fixed the issue where you had to push the chiron quite a distance for the engine to work, by replacing the 24/8 gear connection with a 1:1, greatly reducing timing. Does the Sián work in the same way? Do you have to push the model quite far for the engine to work? If so apply that same fix I just mentioned on the chiron, behind the rear axle. Great explanation!
Yeah I understand its fixable, but it would take too much time to dissasseble and reassemble, Yeah the Sian works the same way. Thanks for the tips! However, replacing the 24/8 with 1/1 will severely mess up the gear ratios, and the resulting speeds won't even be sequential
Unbrickme yes you are right, the marriage process is easily reversible but would still be a pain to get to lol. And It works fine for me with a 1:1 gearing. Again great video!
My gearbox has a problem. Shifting gears from 8th to 1st works fine, but the next set of shifting from 8th to 1st doesnt move the engine, it alternates between this. Does this happen because I built it wrong, or is it really supposed to do that? Thanks
Very cool video! I'm making the Sian at the moment. While building it I could kinda see what was going on in terms of the two sliding pieces that engage with the otherwise free red wheels... But trying to actually manipulate everything and see the ratios is pretty tricky. But once you get the front axle assembly on it all comes in to place and you can manipulate the sequential shifter: so yeah don't be discouraged if you're thinking "hmm I must've done something wrong" or it won't turn or anything... it all comes together :D
great video ! maybe someone has an answer for me: i have a problem while switching from 4th to 5th gear (or frfom 8th back into the 1st) the mechanism as itself is working, but with the shifter behind the wheel i cant skip into the 5th gear. the black part that turns the yellow wheel always slips over it during the attempt. with my fingers i can turn the part, but i recognize a significant bigger effort. I thint thats the reason why it doesnt work with the pedal shifter. the question is: do you also feel a needed bigger effort? from where it results?
i found myself the answer :) for everybody who might have the same problem. in my case i used 2 yellow rubber bands instead of only 1, as in the book described. see also the video at 1:25 ruclips.net/video/-e_vOJdyhG0/видео.html it was a little bit difficulty to reach that point, but with a small needle i succesed to remove 1 one of the rubber. after that it works as it should ! now i can sleep well again... ;)
That's so weird that it has essentially double the multiplier gears. Essentially the whole gearbox is more like a truck gearbox than a car one but very interesting to see how they did it.
I have a problem in mine between shifting gears, I think the gear box itself is working, the problem is in the paddle shifters keep slipping and they aren’t turning the cog that begins the shift between gears
I played around with it for a couple of minutes, and it’s better now, but definitely still not ideal, still at least I know it’s not just mine. Thanks tons.
I'm about to start building this LEGO Technic 42115 Lamborghini set tonight. I don't want to watch this video until I finish so that I'm not spoiled by the experience! But, I was wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks, suggestions, words of caution for building this set or in general any Technic set of this scale? I've never built any Technic sets of this magnitude before. Thanks!

Anyone else have a shifting problem? It only makes half a shift then gets stuck, Ive checked that everything turns smooth and nothing is stuck but it keeps happening

On my Lamborghini I've only completed like the shassy but without the other differentials bit when I spin the differentials the same way they go really tough and you can't move them is there a reason for this or is it something to do with the gears because I haven't don't the gears yet. Can you keep upshifting that gearbox indefinitely (use same side of the lever to shift)? the gearbox will still go from 1st to 8th and then repeat, but there is nothing stopping you to use same lever to shift again at 8th? hi i just finished the motor bike today ducati kit. i went through the book step by step an it all works fine but there nice few bits left is this possible?? an i got two the same bits for a exauste for under the bike so i could only make one. i got the two same left bits only one right side bit would lego make a mistake like this?? im sure i went through the instruction book correctly i do not think it was possible i used the part some where else coz it would not have fitted else where. this was my first lego set so im not sure does this happen in sets
I am building mine now, and its not completed yet. It keeps jamming tho and seems to be very difficult to ratchet through the gears, then at times is seems its stuck between gears. Can you do an overview of how to properly "time" the linkages. i feel like this may be my problem.
Im just half way in the build, and i when i spin te back gear all the wheels are turning exept one of the front tires, i think something is build wrong in the differential, and i dont know how to access it😬
I've built the 1st box. But when I spin the axle in drive there is a lot of tension and it gets stuck. Is that right? Is it psobbly doing that because I still need to complete more of the build?

Hello, we finish assembling the lambo but... the transmission is stuck. When the front wheel turn forward, the rear wheel want to turn reverse. Any idea what I have done wrong?
So fare I juste removed one of the drive shaft (front right wheel). Now the car is free and can movebut...:-( Frustrated. Can we flip a differential whitout disassembling everthing? Which one is the easier to get?
I have a problem in my gearbox. When I am pushing the car forward, the rear tyres are going forward and front tyres are going forward. Is there are a way to fix it without breaking the car fully?
I’m not sure I understand what the problem is in your gearbox. You say when you roll the car forward both the front and back tires also go forward? So are you having issue putting the car in neutral?

Great video. I do have 2 questions about this gear box. (1) it seems moving the gear lever towards the front is actually the forward gear which is opposite of real cars. Is this expected on this set or I made a mistake in my build. (2) if I manually turn the black gear in the cockpit, I am basically only able to turn the wheels in 1st and 2nd gear. In higher gears there's great resistance that i feel like the axle is very stressed. Is this correct?

Vladcriss the reverse gear is a direct output without having to go through the gearbox, and yeah the engine spins the opposite way, but it’s not really clearly visible

Great video!!! It really helps me to understood. I have only a question: at the same wheel rotation speed in 8 the engine runs slower and in first faster right? So when you have an higher gear ratio the engine runs slower than an lower gear ratio. Sorry for my English I’m Italian
I've done something wrong at the time of the build. When I turn both back wheels forwards, the front wheels go backwards. Unfortunately I noticed that after when I finished the build. I hope that you have an idea where to look at? Hopefully a fast fix 😅
I don't think you can fix your model without taking it apart massively. I think you might've messed up some gears in the middle of the drivetrain. So I could split the model there and try to find the issue.
You most likely wrongly connected your differentials - you should put one of them the other way round, unfortunately Im afraid this involves a lot of rebuilding at this stage
That’s exactly what I had to do with mine. One of them had the large ring gear on the driver side, the other was on the passenger side. They need to both be on the same side of the car. I fixed the front one but it requires a lot of disassembly
I just finished building mine legit just now and i dont know why but but the 2 back wheels always either spin opposite to the front 2 wheels. For example, if i push both back wheels as if the car was gun drive forwards, the front 2 wheels would spin the other way to try to "reverse" the car Like this v ⚙️v (back) ⚙️^ (front) Thats what happens every time.
Any suggestions on Forward/Gear box not working? N and R work as inteded but when i use the paddleshift its just a binding feel. never fully clicks over on the yellow knobs.
Mine in the 2nd and the 6th has a big frictions somewhere. I couldn't figure it out and I didn't want to disassemble the whole car. (No insta.) Any idea? I have only one idea: in 2nd (and mulltiplied 2nd) 10 more gears move actively than in 1st or 3rd, and the 4th is already slow enough and engine brake does't effect so much.
@@francischeung I think the main problem is deformation of pieces in time. I could carry out 2 kinds of solutions. 1) disassemble, (change a part), assemble. 2) WD40 (Or water because dust may increase the problem.) Actually I put WD40 first but it was too stinky inside the house, so I rinsed with water and put it outside to get dried.

I just finished my lambo, but i have an issue with the wheels, maybe some of u use to have the same problem, so if i spin 3 wheels to go to straight, (1 from the front and the ones in the back) they will spin well but the other one will go backwards, doesn’t matter what wheel it happens with all of them
At the stage just before the gearbox is brought up to the rear differential part. I try to turn the shafts but they dont want to rotate as if something is jamming. Is this normal or have I made a mistake?
Hello from italy. Usually in real cars, if you pull right paddle,the gear goes up. I can't understand why when i pull the right paddle, gear goes down😭😭😭. Did i built gearbox or trasmission in reverse mode?
Great explanation! However I found that in my car the switching system does not function as shown in the video, and I am not able to find the reason for this error. The paddle can only move once which changes speed once but it cannot go again in the same direction, it can only be pushed from the other side. So pretty much it only switches between 2 speeds. I'm trying to figure out where the cause of this error is and how I can fix it, but it seems impossible to reach anything without having to tear down the car to get to the mechanism.
I've just done step 250 where you put on the second axle assembly. I wanted to play with the engine and transmission a bit, so I put the four wheels on and tried rolling it on the ground, but now I have encountered a problem where sometimes the gear shifting doesn't change the rate of the fake V12 firing. Also, in some gears I can move the wheels one way but the other way is locked up and strips the gears if I try to move them. It also sometimes locks up in both directions. I have undone step 250 and taken the second axle back off to try and isolate the problem but it did not change anything. I hope I explained my problem clearly enough. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi. I found 2 problems, the first was a “green” part with a little part in wrong way. Problem with changing gear. That problem is fixet now(I fount a video to this problem). but I have another problem with the tires. The tires rotate approximately only 2 centimeters in any direction and slow down, all four tires rotate in the same direction. but I do not understand why they stop and it is as they are a spring when they stop in any of the 2 directions. it returns to the opposite direction. My Sian can’t run more than 2 centimeters ☹
could be a variety of different causes. Here are some probable ones. 1) differentials are placed the wrong way, simply flip one of the differentials. 2) another lego piece fell into the gearbox and got stuck, causing the gearbox to jam, 3) gears in the gearbox are placed incorrectly

Hi when I put it in drive neutral or reverse my all four wheels seize up can u do a video about this it needs to be addressed and I paid £260 so please let's gather more people so lego can fix this problem
I think I did something wrong. Started building 5 days ago, removed some parts already (cannot completely disassemble it), every second speed spins without moving the pistons. No cogs are missing, everything had been realigned as the instructuions shows. What could be the problem?
@@Unbrickme I had only one gear left. Yesterday I removed everything I can to see the gearbox, and compared with the instruction book, every gear was in place. So I guessed the remaining gear was an extra piece. If switched to reverse, everything works. but only if I switch to forward, it looks like every second speed not moves the pistons. Edit: figured out, the missing gear was really missing but not from the inside, but rather the outside of the gearbox. IThe missing gear was not seen in the bottom view, the right axle near the output, there is a gray gear after a long red connector, and next to it, outside of the frame there should be another gray one, that was missing.
i think this is better because it uses the paddle shifters behind the wheel. the landrover gearbox makes you turn something to switch gears, which is completely unrealistic of how real life transmissions work
After watchin this i feel so stupid taking apart my bugatti and essentially destroying it to figure out why the car wouldnt be pushed before i saw this video about sequential transmission and only then realized what the paddles were for 3 years after building

I don't think I can make a video explaining that set but I can give you the gist of it. Essentially there's 7 different axles all connected to each different function. The axles have driving rings which can connect to either the clockwise direction or counterclockwise direction. When you engage the driving ring into the different gears, each independent function activates with the gearbox and just one motor
Because remember the drivetrain is always connected to the gearbox with an 8 tooth gear and a 24 tooth gear. When the car is in reverse, the drivetrain is directly connected to the engine, so it is completely unaffected by the gearbox. But, the drivetrain is always connected to the gearbox regardless. When the car is in drive position, the engine is connected to the gearbox, which is connected to the drivetrain with the 8 and 24 tooth gears
is the lego bugatti gearbox works the same? because i have one but i don’t know if i built it correct and wanna know how works hope yo can do a video nice work
yeah they work the same with the multiplier and the speeds 1-4. The gears are positioned a little differently, and the stepper mechanisms are more refined to make sure that the new 8 speed gearbox gets stuck much less

I don’t have the Bugatti but I want to have it before it retires . Right now I have the Land Rover which I think is the best value and the 911 rsr. Probably the Bugatti will be next month.
@Preston Varner I believe that you should get the Bugatti, but please be very careful when assembling the gearbox of the bugatti. Also replace the clutch gear in the bugatti with a normal gear. The gearbox in the lamborghini has more refined pieces for some mechanisms and it gets stuck way less. Although if you prefer the bugatti aesthetically more, then get the bugatti
Yeah. I think it' just normal functioning because of differentials. Perhaps one of the axles connected to your differential has too much friction, and you may need to loosen up some pieces

they had such a drivetrain for many other vehicles

Yeah the Bugatti and the Lamborghini paddle switchers are pretty bad. The Porsche’s paddles were fantastic

Do you need to lubricate transmission? I mean, will it work better if you lubricate it with silicone?

On my Lamborghini I've only completed like the shassy but without the other differentials bit when I spin the differentials the same way they go really tough and you can't move them is there a reason for this or is it something to do with the gears because I haven't don't the gears yet. Please see this.

Can you keep upshifting that gearbox indefinitely (use same side of the lever to shift)? the gearbox will still go from 1st to 8th and then repeat, but there is nothing stopping you to use same lever to shift again at 8th? hi i just finished the motor bike today ducati kit. i went through the book step by step an it all works fine but there nice few bits left is this possible?? an i got two the same bits for a exauste for under the bike so i could only make one. i got the two same left bits only one right side bit would lego make a mistake like this?? im sure i went through the instruction book correctly i do not think it was possible i used the part some where else coz it would not have fitted else where. this was my first lego set so im not sure does this happen in sets
hello, usually you get a small handful of spare pieces in ever lego set. it's perfectly normal
I am building mine now, and its not completed yet. It keeps jamming tho and seems to be very difficult to ratchet through the gears, then at times is seems its stuck between gears. Can you do an overview of how to properly "time" the linkages. i feel like this may be my problem.
Im just half way in the build, and i when i spin te back gear all the wheels are turning exept one of the front tires, i think something is build wrong in the differential, and i dont know how to access it😬
My differentials have a clicking noise when the two wheels rotate at different speeds…? Is that normal?
I've built the 1st box. But when I spin the axle in drive there is a lot of tension and it gets stuck. Is that right? Is it psobbly doing that because I still need to complete more of the build?
It should not get stuck. There will be tension, but it shouldn’t be so much to the point of getting stuck
@@Unbrickme yeah it turns a bit and then gets stuck. Then if I try to keep turning it and let go, it whips backwards

Hello, we finish assembling the lambo but... the transmission is stuck. When the front wheel turn forward, the rear wheel want to turn reverse. Any idea what I have done wrong?
So fare I juste removed one of the drive shaft (front right wheel). Now the car is free and can movebut...:-( Frustrated. Can we flip a differential whitout disassembling everthing? Which one is the easier to get?

I have a problem in my gearbox. When I am pushing the car forward, the rear tyres are going forward and front tyres are going forward. Is there are a way to fix it without breaking the car fully?
I’m not sure I understand what the problem is in your gearbox. You say when you roll the car forward both the front and back tires also go forward? So are you having issue putting the car in neutral?

Great video. I do have 2 questions about this gear box. (1) it seems moving the gear lever towards the front is actually the forward gear which is opposite of real cars. Is this expected on this set or I made a mistake in my build. (2) if I manually turn the black gear in the cockpit, I am basically only able to turn the wheels in 1st and 2nd gear. In higher gears there's great resistance that i feel like the axle is very stressed. Is this correct?

So how is the reverse gear working? You push the car forward and it goes back, or what it does?
Vladcriss the reverse gear is a direct output without having to go through the gearbox, and yeah the engine spins the opposite way, but it’s not really clearly visible

I've done something wrong at the time of the build. When I turn both back wheels forwards, the front wheels go backwards. Unfortunately I noticed that after when I finished the build. I hope that you have an idea where to look at? Hopefully a fast fix 😅
I don't think you can fix your model without taking it apart massively. I think you might've messed up some gears in the middle of the drivetrain. So I could split the model there and try to find the issue.
You most likely wrongly connected your differentials - you should put one of them the other way round, unfortunately Im afraid this involves a lot of rebuilding at this stage
That’s exactly what I had to do with mine. One of them had the large ring gear on the driver side, the other was on the passenger side. They need to both be on the same side of the car. I fixed the front one but it requires a lot of disassembly

I just finished building mine legit just now and i dont know why but but the 2 back wheels always either spin opposite to the front 2 wheels. For example, if i push both back wheels as if the car was gun drive forwards, the front 2 wheels would spin the other way to try to "reverse" the car

Any suggestions on Forward/Gear box not working? N and R work as inteded but when i use the paddleshift its just a binding feel. never fully clicks over on the yellow knobs.
Mine in the 2nd and the 6th has a big frictions somewhere. I couldn't figure it out and I didn't want to disassemble the whole car. (No insta.)

I have only one idea: in 2nd (and mulltiplied 2nd) 10 more gears move actively than in 1st or 3rd, and the 4th is already slow enough and engine brake does't effect so much.
Same here! The 2nd and the 6th have bigger frictions than others. Have you solved the problem? If yes, how did you do?
@@francischeung I think the main problem is deformation of pieces in time.
I could carry out 2 kinds of solutions.
1) disassemble, (change a part), assemble.
2) WD40 (Or water because dust may increase the problem.) Actually I put WD40 first but it was too stinky inside the house, so I rinsed with water and put it outside to get dried.

I just finished my lambo, but i have an issue with the wheels, maybe some of u use to have the same problem, so if i spin 3 wheels to go to straight, (1 from the front and the ones in the back) they will spin well but the other one will go backwards, doesn’t matter what wheel it happens with all of them
At the stage just before the gearbox is brought up to the rear differential part. I try to turn the shafts but they dont want to rotate as if something is jamming. Is this normal or have I made a mistake?

Usually in real cars, if you pull right paddle,the gear goes up. I can't understand why when i pull the right paddle, gear goes down😭😭😭. Did i built gearbox or trasmission in reverse mode?
Keep in mind that 8th speed means the engine runs the slowest and the 1st speed makes it run the fastest.

Hi I have a lambo lego buts the gear bow not working
Great explanation! However I found that in my car the switching system does not function as shown in the video, and I am not able to find the reason for this error. The paddle can only move once which changes speed once but it cannot go again in the same direction, it can only be pushed from the other side. So pretty much it only switches between 2 speeds. I'm trying to figure out where the cause of this error is and how I can fix it, but it seems impossible to reach anything without having to tear down the car to get to the mechanism.

I've just done step 250 where you put on the second axle assembly. I wanted to play with the engine and transmission a bit, so I put the four wheels on and tried rolling it on the ground, but now I have encountered a problem where sometimes the gear shifting doesn't change the rate of the fake V12 firing. Also, in some gears I can move the wheels one way but the other way is locked up and strips the gears if I try to move them. It also sometimes locks up in both directions. I have undone step 250 and taken the second axle back off to try and isolate the problem but it did not change anything.
I hope I explained my problem clearly enough. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi. I found 2 problems, the first was a “green” part with a little part in wrong way. Problem with changing gear. That problem is fixet now(I fount a video to this problem). but I have another problem with the tires. The tires rotate approximately only 2 centimeters in any direction and slow down, all four tires rotate in the same direction. but I do not understand why they stop and it is as they are a spring when they stop in any of the 2 directions. it returns to the opposite direction. My Sian can’t run more than 2 centimeters ☹
could be a variety of different causes. Here are some probable ones. 1) differentials are placed the wrong way, simply flip one of the differentials. 2) another lego piece fell into the gearbox and got stuck, causing the gearbox to jam, 3) gears in the gearbox are placed incorrectly

So if the engine gear make 1 rotation the tire rotate 1.44 in gear 1 or not?
yes lets say that the current gear ratio in your car is 1.44. For every 1 full rotation of the engine, the wheels rotate 1.44 of full rotation.

I think I did something wrong. Started building 5 days ago, removed some parts already (cannot completely disassemble it), every second speed spins without moving the pistons. No cogs are missing, everything had been realigned as the instructuions shows. What could be the problem?
It could be that some gears in the transmission itself are missing. After you finished building it, were any gears left on the table?
@@Unbrickme I had only one gear left. Yesterday I removed everything I can to see the gearbox, and compared with the instruction book, every gear was in place. So I guessed the remaining gear was an extra piece. If switched to reverse, everything works. but only if I switch to forward, it looks like every second speed not moves the pistons.
Edit: figured out, the missing gear was really missing but not from the inside, but rather the outside of the gearbox. IThe missing gear was not seen in the bottom view, the right axle near the output, there is a gray gear after a long red connector, and next to it, outside of the frame there should be another gray one, that was missing.
Mines is coming tomorrow. I’m so excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!

i think this is better because it uses the paddle shifters behind the wheel. the landrover gearbox makes you turn something to switch gears, which is completely unrealistic of how real life transmissions work
My wheels move in opposite directions. Meaning it can't roll forward or back ward. Any tips?

I don't think I can make a video explaining that set but I can give you the gist of it. Essentially there's 7 different axles all connected to each different function. The axles have driving rings which can connect to either the clockwise direction or counterclockwise direction. When you engage the driving ring into the different gears, each independent function activates with the gearbox and just one motor

Because remember the drivetrain is always connected to the gearbox with an 8 tooth gear and a 24 tooth gear. When the car is in reverse, the drivetrain is directly connected to the engine, so it is completely unaffected by the gearbox. But, the drivetrain is always connected to the gearbox regardless. When the car is in drive position, the engine is connected to the gearbox, which is connected to the drivetrain with the 8 and 24 tooth gears

yeah they work the same with the multiplier and the speeds 1-4. The gears are positioned a little differently, and the stepper mechanisms are more refined to make sure that the new 8 speed gearbox gets stuck much less
There was a typo in the instructions on the gearbox for the Bugatti. I forgot which step it was but you have to flip a gear around for it to work

I don’t have the Bugatti but I want to have it before it retires . Right now I have the Land Rover which I think is the best value and the 911 rsr. Probably the Bugatti will be next month.

@Preston Varner I believe that you should get the Bugatti, but please be very careful when assembling the gearbox of the bugatti. Also replace the clutch gear in the bugatti with a normal gear. The gearbox in the lamborghini has more refined pieces for some mechanisms and it gets stuck way less. Although if you prefer the bugatti aesthetically more, then get the bugatti

Yeah. I think it' just normal functioning because of differentials. Perhaps one of the axles connected to your differential has too much friction, and you may need to loosen up some pieces
