I have never heard of cooking chitterlings that way. I am from up north and most of us pronounce it the same way as the blogger. I don't care how clean you clean them, you should always change the water after they come to the first boil. I am speaking from experience of my mom, dad, aunties of which they were all from down south, with the exception of my dad. After discarding the first boil with all the stuff from the chitterings😉, you pour hot water over the chitterlings and then you add your seasonings. I just use onions, celery, salt, pepper, red pepper, brown vinegar, a little garlic and onion powder. Here is a little secret I will share with you, cook them in a ceramic dutch oven pot, they will cook faster and they are so tender. I cook greens, bean soups, etc, in the pot. I love it. Oh, when the chitterlings are done I cut them up and I add hot sauce, and a little worceshire sauce to them. I'm cooking some for thanksgiving! I buy aunt Bessie, I know they're expensive, but it worth it. Have a happy holiday, and enjoy your chitterlings no matter how you cook them.
@realissues I cook mine the same except for the Worcestershire sauce. I was buying the Aunt Bessies but they are hard to find in my are. Btw did you know that Aunt Bessies are not “true” chittlins? They’re actually the ball sacks. But hey all pig is pork.
With so many critical/negative comments I can see why you were hesitant to film this vid. From the way you “correctly” enunciate the word Chit-ter-lings to the fact that you didn’t cut them before hand (which isn’t a MUST), to your choice of seasonings, and the fact that you only cooked them 2:30 (even though ppl can CLEARLY see how tender they were when you cut them). 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️ Ma’am they looked perfect! They were seasoned VERY well and I will be trying them your way next time. Thank you so much for sharing. Btw: I too pronounce them they way they are SPELLED, depending on my audience. #KeepOnCooking #KeepOnDoItYOURWAY
I seasoned them your way. I am not saying verbatim, however a few of those ingredients is more flavor that I normally put in my chitterlings. Sautéed the first three ingredients, is aromatherapy. I will get it down pack the next time. I will always seasoned my chitlins your blend. It s now 6:23 a.m. Thanksgiving Day 2020.
Aisha, Great job on cooking the chitterlings! This is not something you eat everyday, but occasionally will not hurt you. We only eat at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I might cook some for Christmas haven't had any in years. Never made them, always just ate my mom's, but looking how you made them, looks easy, so I'll try.
That hot sauce make it even better! I haven’t had chitterlings in a LONG time trying to limit the amount of pork I eat. But those look amazing I will try this recipe one day! Thanks Aisha!
I cooked mine like this for Christmas, and they were delicious. The only thing is I used 2 whole chopped onions and 5 stalks of celery. It was the first time I've ever cooked chitlins and the first time I've had them in around 5 years since I had them at my mother's house for the holidays. Thanks for this video. I made the most flavorful and delicious chitlins I've ever had because of this video. I finished eating them yesterday morning, and I want some more already. Maybe I'll buy another 10 lb. tub next week.
Try lipton onion soup mix, and cooking them down on low, until thick, but use all the other ingredients also, I use onion, celery, potatoes 2,chicken broth, garlic. I cook mine fo 3 to four hrs after they boil I cook on low until the juice is thick and taste delicious
Looks great...I like your style of cooking i.e., cleaning, and simplicity. I’m sure they were delicious. It’s often hard for me to eat other people’s cooking. I’m very observant, but YOURS...yes!!
I'm a white guy from the North. I went down South and ate Queen Ella (or something like that) chitlins many times. I didn't know you were supposed to clean them carefully. The first time I saw hog maws, I was staying at a hotel room in Wadley, Georgia in 1983. I put them in a pan on a hot plate. Soon the other residents were aware of what was on the menu at my place. Live and learn.
We put the pig stomach that we call punches in our chitterlings because it is very meaty and stretches the chitterlings so they will last longer and so we'll have enough for a crowd.
Eight hours for me if more than10 pounds...I think some people want to save on the chitlins so they don't cook them long...I don't like mine chewy...just a preference
I just read a comment on here that said the cook 30 mins pour out water then season and cook for 30 mins and put them over rice 😒😒☺I wonder how they eat them.
New fan here. Would love to see you do a through and through without pausing and starting again. Your voice is southern and very soothing. Maybe you could talk to us about your day as you're cooking or whatever you feel like discussing. Just a suggestion
After mine are done cooking, I let them sit over night in the fridge. By morning the grease on them is so thick you can literally lift it off the top and underneath is a translucent gel which is like a broth. Just reheat and it's more safe to eat with way less fat on them. Delish! 😋
I'm Hispanic and the way I was raised to do them was boil the heck outta them for at least 4 hours. Then fry them in a little oil till they are some what crispy but not too much then chop them into small bits and make them into corn tortilla tacos. With some cilantro onion limon and some Mexican salsa
Interesting!!! I never heard of chicken flavor used in chittlins or all purpose seasoning. I want to try this! Aaaand I’m used to them taking all day to cook
Thanks for the video, young lady! I love chitlins but I'm afraid of cleaning them. I think that I'll miss a certain spot on the chitlins and it won't come out clean enough! lol 😄
Good job done but i cook mine 3 to 4 hrs at least but little longer if they not tender. And im very picky not one speck on my cleaned chitlins...used half of potatoe n bay leaf n other spices...thxfor sharing😃💓
Nice video. I've eaten lots of chitterlings in my day but I've never heard of eating them with rice. Anyways, I'm thinking I'm going to keep those scraps from my chitlins for catfishing this summer. I've got a feeling it'll be perfect bait...
I never seen chitlins cooked this way but they looked fine. Seemed tender enough. I would recommend related chitlins. Uncle Lou or Aunt Bessie. You are innovative and creative.
I tried to make these once and I got a bag that said pre cleaned.....heat cook and serve and that's exactly what I did. 😆 😆 no cleaning or nothing. 😆 😆 they didn't come out they way I thought they would. These look really good.

If cleaned and washed properly with the right seasonings they won't smell

Chitterlings are a delicacy and should only be eaten 1-3x per year. I don't think that would affect anyone if they live a healthy lifestyle. 🤷🏾♀️

Omg!! You have everything ❤️❤️❤️
Try using a potato n there it cuts down on the smell and the flavor of that potato is great.
Yeah my ex husband used to use that
For me the smell is a sign that I don't need to be eating it. No shade..just not sure how people can eat these with the SMELL!
My grandma used this method, she would discard the taetah tho after they were done.
Or soak it raw in white vinegar for a few minutes and rinse well in cold running water. Drain.

Maybe when you add hog maws you probably have to.cook them longer. I don't think you need 6 hours with just the chitterlings.
