Lovely video and thank you for the history. We will be looking to go on one of these 2 in future. Now on my 'must do' list along with 'ferry to isle of wight '
All food ideas shipmate. Have a look at the websites for Challenge and you may also be interested in SS Sheildhall, also based in Southampton: ss-shieldhall.co.uk/
Saying of Challenge: "She's a steam tug powered by diesel" suggests she has a diesel engine, although I realise you don't think that. It would be clearer to say that Challenge's new boiler is oil-fired. Based on your comment, I presume that it burns gas oil, similar to diesel fuel, because that has the following benefits over heavy fuel oil. Due to its viscosity, the latter needs to be heated before it can be pumped and further heated before it can be atomised to be burnt. Also, gas oil is easier to burn without making smoke, thereby avoiding penalties for polluting the atmosphere. As you say later, her original boiler was coal fired and was converted to burn heavy fuel oil.
I noticed that shipmate, once it had been uploaded. Should have said diesel fuelled, steam powered. Hope to get onboard onday and make a ships tour film.
Fantastic footage. you should put some of your amazing pictures on your site so we could buy them.they would make fantastic pictures for presents or just for home 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
Techincally it's a Tender Tug, not an Ocean Liner shipmate. Only used for taking passengers to the big ships or to manuouver them. Great to see old vessels on the water.
Thanks shipmate. DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Flying over the water is about the only space you can fly easily these days, assuming you are not under a flight path.
Wonderful commentary thankyou. And that voice!
Many thanks shipmate.
Really enjoyed watching that.
Thanks shipmate.
Its my birthday today, and a lovely suprise getting a video with 2 steam ships! Ahoy captain
Perfect timing then shipmate. Happy Birthday.
Happy birthday have a great day 🎂🎈☺
@J knight Happy Birthday crewmate
Great shots of the TT Calshot, also just super to see unusual and not normally seen photography of our local area. Thanks Captain.
Not often I am at that end of port shipmate. It did indeed make for some good shots.
Thank you Cap'n, excellent as usual.
Thanks shipmate
Imagine having this beside the Queen Mary instead of a submarine
Ceratinly would be different shipmate. Partial to the odd submarine.

What a beautiful ship. It's wonderful that she is being restored.
Indeed shipmate. Will be great to see TT Calshot back on the water with passangers as well.
Well it is a pity she was scrapped in June of last year.
I saw the ST Challenge in front of Mayflower Park on Monday.... beautiful sight!
I bet that was a sight shipmate. You can normally hear ST Channenge before you can see her.

Beautiful filming of this very significant event Captain. Thanks as always.
Thanks shipmate. I was lucky to catch it, as it rained not long afterwards.
For the record, I think this was filmed on May 25th 2021
It was indeed shipmate, 25th May 2021.
This is the smallest ocean liner ever and its beutiful
Techincally it's a Tender Tug, not an Ocean Liner shipmate. Only used for taking passengers to the big ships or to manuouver them. Great to see old vessels on the water.
I heard that the calshot has been scrapped, since the costs of restoration were too high. Farewell.
That's what I hear as well shipmate
I noticed Calshot is listing to the port side. Is her balast not correct? Great footage. Thank you. Take care.
I don't know shipmate about the balast, but she was on her way to a new home, so good chances that things onboard were not 100%
Excellent, enjoyed that. I still think it would be worth you exploring that organisation I emailed you about last week!
You are absolutley right shipmate. Been busy, catching up on things, if the tech stops breaking...
@@SolentShips I know, life gets in the way. I'll leave it with you but email if you need more info. x

love the video. what drone do you use? and quite surprised you can fly it over Southampton water... any pre authorisation required?
Thanks shipmate. DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Flying over the water is about the only space you can fly easily these days, assuming you are not under a flight path.
Ahoy !!
Ahoy shipmate
Would I be OK to use this footage in a mini doc I’m making about the heritage ships of the Solent?
Of course shipmate. Please credit Solent Ships RUclips.

Yes shipmate, that would be the plan.
