If he's admitting this much, you know Quentin actually had way more involvement on the entire album. The IYRTITL album was a complete change from earlier records. His lyrics and flow completely changed for the better and was given praise for it. Hearing QM songs before that album and it was the same flow, rhythm and tone. Sounds like QM laid the foundation for that style and image, and Drake changed a few words to make it his own. From there, Drake dropped QM after absorbing all he could and made it more his own into something new. But you can still hear QM's rhythm and tone in the later albums. In the past, Drake did the same with the weeknd. After IYRTITL, he did the same to Party and Makonnen. Party was the only one that didnt mind staying hidden and stayed with OVO.

He was forced to make peace and forced to get over because the audio got out. If there wasn't hard evidence, like those reference tracks that were leaked, Drake would 100% be denying it/ignoring it and shutting it down from all angles. But there's no way out of this so he either has to 1. downplay it (which he does by saying that all your fav artists does the same), and 2. say you're past it. It's essentially saying that he's over it without actually facing it and answering the tough questions and facing the criticism. He was dead quiet the moment the tracks were released. He wasn't talking like he is in this interview years later. So I hate that cop out of being past it or downplaying it. If it wasn't for the leak, then Drake would be denying it 100% on that he said/she said stuff.

Producers do more than just make beats and record verses. They have ears for songs and what will sound the absolute best for the part that’s written. So it’s not technically ghostwriting it’s just collabing 🤷🏻 artists do that all the time. Rather than facilitating the idea. All QM had to do was throw the idea out there with a few cadences, and Drake being the artist that he is as a “writer” was all he needed to create the hit. Because he doesn’t have the time to come up with great music being as busy as he is lol anyways. The hook outweighs the verses. That’s what makes a song go, because Drake’s a rapper so he can obviously make it rhyme. So that’s what he means when he says I pulled my own weight with my pen. But just because the verses out body the song it doesn’t mean he made the song a hit, because without the hook the song is trash. People fail to realize the hook makes the hit, and a hook makes more pay/percentage than a verse depending on who wrote it, and if he or she will receive credits or publishing on it. 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
