@@TheOklahomaHotrail Thank you! I am not sure how much equipment has to do with it these days but that was shot mainly with an ENG camcorder, the Panasonic AG CX350. I prefer camcorders to mirrorless for shooting run-and-gun. I would not recommend Panasonic camcorders for this kind of shooting. They are great indoor cameras but don't hold up well in extreme weather. If you are in the market, I would recommend a SONY Z200 or Z280 which is my current workhorse.
So glad you chased us out here before it was gone. In a lot of these helper clips I was the Switchman on the helper. I miss the MRL and I’m so glad my time with MRL was recorded thank you. That’s for sure me 1:15:06
@MRL_4303 May I ask you if it is possible to get mail contact from someone who works with locomotives and who could for me record engine sounds inside cab one of gp35 and sd40 until those old emds are still active. Maybe probably the best choice would be a locomotive workshop in Livingston. You probably know the situation there if you have been working for MRL. I hope you know someone or you can forward to any mail contact where i can write about this. If you have any good answer, can we go to private communication on mail? Regards

Really enjoyed your series on the MRL. Being a truck driver that regularly runs to the Pacific Northwest I have run alongside those tracks on I-90 for many years. It’s really something to see those MRL locomotives pushing those heavy trains up the hill between Livingston and Bozeman!
I spent a winter in Livingston a few years back in a house right by the tracks behind the depot. It was bitter cold, in fact one entire month never got above zero degrees F. It was a real treat being able to watch the trains from my window, and your videos really brought back the memories. I have lots of photos of that time, but nothing like your videos, which are truly top drawer.
Thank you very much! Yes it can be bitter cold there in the winter but that is Montana. I have had the camera's LCD screen freeze while shooting on the MRL.
I spent last Saturday and Sunday viewing the "docu-series" Farewell MRL. Talk about being captivated by your videography, drone footage and commentary. If there are awards given for train videos, this one is the Academy Award winner. The video gave me a great insight to the operations of MRL. Part 2 about the helpers on Mullin Pass was my favorite. Watching the helpers over Bozeman Pass was also cool. Nothing finer watching EMD power almost on their knees shoving for all their worth. Mountain railroading at it's best. If I didn't live here in BC, Big Sky Country would be my choice.(Except in the winter) Again, well done in so many ways!
Me and a buddy made it out to Montana in late July of 2023, after driving the Beartooth scenic highway, we picked up the MRL at Livingston, and over several days we ended up at Thompson Falls, but traffic was limited during the week due to rail replacement on Mullan pass. We made our way back to Michigan along the BNSF’s Hi line and US2from Kallispell
It's a good thing they didn't keep the name as Hamilton for Manhattan, it would have caused confusion with the Hamilton south of Missoula, on the Darby branch.
I saw a video the other day of one of the MRL engines in Las Angeles switching cars. Sad to see it because it's only a matter of time before it's destroyed with graffiti if it stays there.
Here is the final installment of our Farewell MRL series. I hope you enjoy the program!
If I may ask, what is your equipment setup? The visuals of this is incredible!

Is it me, or was there no footage of MRL running in Idaho in this 4 part series?
@@AnontheGOAT That is correct. MRL units are seldom seen west of Pipeline. The Gas Local being the only regular MRL powered train on the 4th.

1:54:00 'the dispatcher got a report that there is a person on the tracks near here' and it is I!
It will be a sad day when MRL is a fallen flag. Hopefully a company will pick it up and we can have it on our layouts R.I.P.
It's a good thing they didn't keep the name as Hamilton for Manhattan, it would have caused confusion with the Hamilton south of Missoula, on the Darby branch.
I was surprised to see the mention of the old Wilsail branch, since it predates MRL.
6:38 Ohh yea

When was the picture of the two F45's taken?
2011. They were mothballed in Livingston at that time.
How was the truck driver from that crash? Did he survive?
