Your farm is so neat and clean. I can see you all work hard to keep it that way. Kudos. Can't wait to see Kate and Julia show this year.

Just wondering when stevie will get a saddle that fits her properly?. No offense but what are you waiting for?. Also if duke is gonna do dressage then it only makes sense to have dressage saddle.

Really important question jenn, do you think its appropriate for a content creator to upload live graphic animal births on RUclips?. Is it something you are planning to show when the goats have their babies?. Or do you think its inappropriate?.

Great question. Yes, I think it is appropriate for a birth to be posted on a channel that is about farming or animals. I think if it was on a channel that had nothing to do with animals, or if it was thrown in the middle of a video about a completely unrelated topic and gave no warning, that might be different. As farmers, these types of videos have been invaluable to us to know how to best prepare for impending births. Most farming channels post birth videos regularly if they are fortunate enough to be there, as they are often searched for and are extremely educational and helpful for others to know what to expect in different scenarios that can come up when your own animal is giving birth. Often with animals, because the delivery happens very quickly, even when a vet is called immediately, if there is an issue, we need to know what to do because a vet will likely not get here in time. These videos can help save lives in these circumstances. We posted Luna’s birth on our channel. If I am there for the birth of one of our goats, I would absolutely post it in hopes that it might help others.

@BarnBootsandCountryRoots but is there a difference between farming channels where it might vets and professionals educating vs hobby farms. Ppl who could actually be spreading misinformation?. What makes you an expert to be showing others how to breed and birth farm animals?. Just curious. Just bc you do something doesn't make you are expert to teach others. It kinda makes it sound like ppl don't need to expertise of someone who actually went to medical school.

I think it's a tad inappropriate for a much younger audience to be watching.

I absolutely agree, we are not professionals and I would never claim to be. I always have a disclaimer on my videos that I am not a professional and the video does not replace the need to seek the advice of a qualified medical professional. It is not an instructional video on what to do. I personally have never seen a video posted by a farming channel or a veterinarian channel that has ever presented it as an instructional video that negates the need to seek a vet. If a video did specify that, or indicated they were a vet when they were not, I would absolutely agree that it would be inappropriate. There should always be a close working relationship with an in-person vet (if one is available in the area a person lives). That said, as most farmers know, births happen quickly and it is important to know what to expect because a vet may not get there in time. Every birth is different and by seeing different births, it just provides more of an understanding about what to expect and how to prepare. If ever there is an issue in a birth, we call our vet immediately, but the reality is, when you live on a farm, you are not generally close to a vet and it usually takes them more time to get to the farm than the birth takes, so it is important to be as prepared as you can be. I do not think there is anything wrong with seeing the process of a life coming into the world. I personally appreciate that there are videos that I can watch and then consult with my vet about the validity of what I might do in that scenario. Generally speaking, if people are clicking on a video that indicates it is a birth video, they are wanting to see that subject matter or topic. If they do not want to see it, they would simply choose not to watch the video. Farming channels will be posting videos that are relevant to farming, and that is going to include topics of birth, injuries, loss of life, etc. Farming is not easy, and with all the joy of working with animals, also comes the heartache and tough topics that go with it. Viewers need to use their discretion about which videos and channels they want to watch. In terms of a younger audience watching, those videos cannot be posted on kids RUclips. As a content creator, I do my due diligence when uploading my content to RUclips by answering No when it asks if the video is appropriate for children/ people under the age of 18. That ensures it is not posted onto Kids RUclips. If children are watching it, it is because they are on Adult RUclips, which comes down to a parental control issue as to what they are permitting their children to be able to access on social media. That is not a Content Creator’s responsibility to censor the content they are posting if it is relevant to their channel and they have identified it appropriately to RUclips’s screening parameters when uploading it, which I always do.
