  • ‪@MotorOliTV‬ brought me an MTM Audi S3 for a lap of the Nürburgring. The base was great with one big downside: the car just returned from a car show with show tire setup. It is definitely not suited for the track. Nevertheless, we had fun.

      Yeah this is what I was thinking too. My APR Stage 2 8V S3 needs an oil cooler to keep the temps around 210f, before I had that it was jumping up to 240-250f frequently, which isn't overly bad, but... it's still alot more than the standard 190-210f regular running temp for my climate.

    Not sure that engine will be lasting very long unless the oil system is upgraded... I could be wrong, but tempts that high would concern me.

    Some thoughts from a 2019 GTI owner in the US. I'm fairly familiar with MQB of course, and a few things really surprised me about this build. Right away, I'm shocked they kept the stock single piston sliding front calipers. All they did is paint them Yellow and put the MTM logo on them. Absolutely not up to the task of slowing down almost twice the stock horsepower in my opinion. Also, the oil temps got ridiculously hot. Did they not fit an oil cooler? I would have expected that for such a large bump in power and for a car thats expected to see even a moderate amount of track time. And while the tires are contributing to the understeer, I'm very surprised MTM didn't fit a larger rear swaybar. That's one of the first things I'd do, it makes such a massive difference on turn in, and it's easy and cheap. But maybe it really is just a show car lol

      And not all transverse-engine cars have overhang on the front, the Toyota iQ doesn't for example. The only reason it's done this way is because it's cheaper, you'd need clever packaging or to increase the wheelbase to make it work which costs money. And VAG sure loves having its Golf-derivatives built as cheaply as possible while gouging the customer for as much money as possible.

    People. The engine placement in this car is not different than any other hothatch. All transverse engined fwd/awd/4wd cars have BOTH the engine and the gearbox slightly in front of the front axle. CTR, focus, megane, i30n etc. All your favourite hothatches have the same engine placement configuration. Engine and gearbox slighlty in front of the front axle and on the back of the gearbox the differential.
    The reason most audis understeer at the limit is not the engine location. They tend to be neutral, then incline towards understeer at the limit. It is the way they are setup from the factory. If you want to change that you need first of all a thicker rear sway bar. Also these tires are not meant for trackdays, let alone in a car with much more than the stock power.

    Standard or tuned, these rarely make good track cars. I don't think Audi drivers can deal with an adjustable chassis/ any form of oversteer , so this is what they get.

  • @vollcare4076
    @vollcare4076 2 года назад +3

    Obviously Oli brings these tuned Audi’s to the ring to make ‘advertisement’ for these Tuners - to get publicity.
    But again this is a proof Audi‘s, or Audis tuned like this, are no sport cars and not suitable for be driven hard.
    I’m asking myself if these Tuners really want these ‘showcars’ to be driven on the track - as they really show their weak character when driven hard.
    But tbh it’s their fault:
    If you call a 90k € price tag for a S3 and name it “Clubsport” it should at least perform anywhere near that - which it obviously doesn’t do

    • @MotorOliTV
      @MotorOliTV 2 года назад +2

      Oli just wants a Nordschleife Lap on his channel together with Misha… Harder than you would expect to realise 😂😂😂 Misha knows what I am talking about. If I’d get paid for this, I would call it advertisement. It’s just for fun. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Of course the tuner gets some attention, as he provides a car for the video. I would say: Win win for everyone, incl. the community here 😉.

      Audi is a weird company

    • @xIcarus227
      @xIcarus227 3 месяца назад

      @@AmperahGaming it's the entirety of VAG, not just Audi. They really like building every Golf-derivative car as cheaply as possible, which works fine in a Golf because it's supposed to be more accessible, but becomes a huge issue with Audi which is supposed to be a premium brand.
      The best example is the RS3 - ever since its initial launch in 2011 people have been complaining that it behaves like a boat. It took them 10 years to build a decent AWD system and that's only because the Focus RS showed that it can be done with the GKN Twinster system, which Audi effectively cloned (and still left out a few bits, because it's cheaper that way). The chassis balance problems were 'solved' by putting wider tires at the front because guess what, it's once again cheaper that way.
      And then they come out and claim that Nurburgring record to prove that they 'fixed' the car, yet if you look at independent track tests it's frequently slower than the A45S which is supposed to be significantly slower.
      I realize this turned into a rant, I get salty every time I think about this car. I really wanted the RS3 to be great as I absolutely love inline-5 engines, but instead Audi treats potential customers like we're idiots by engaging in this sort of misleading marketing. That is the day a BMW was bought instead.
