I think this has changed my life . Thank you so much for making this!!!! I need lots of breaks due to low energy and lack of focus.. but I always got frustrated with the pomodoro so I’d end up not using any breaks and burn myself out and then waste hours of my day doing nothing. This is an absolute game changer! Thank you!
I came up with this flow modoro idea myself - tried pomodoro and found that it totally derailed me when I was at my most focussed and in the groove. So I took note of how long I could go without needing a break, when my concentration was flagging, and it turned out it was anything from 15 to 80 minutes. You just have to be aware of the signs and take the break at the most appropriate time. I also found that a study session of as little as 15 minutes could be really valuable - but you need to be aware of when you might need to limit it to that so you can choose an appropriate task.
My pomodoro was similar to this... block out several hrs to a whole day, study 50:10. If it's a slog, take the 10, otherwise keep going. If you've done more than one round, you can take the usual 10 or claim the missed breaks, for a better rest. Take a proper food (etc) break on 4, 4, 3 hrs
I actually did this exact schedule when writing my masters papers. I didn't realize the pomo existed, but I noticed that if I incorporated scheduled breaks into my study time I actually got sh*t done.
Hey Archer, I absolutely love ur technique. I started the pomodoro technique a few weeks ago and when ever I read, with time I get into the flow state and when am flowing the time suddenly elapses when am not done. So I'm really happy I saw ur video and I'm excited to try it right now. My reading time is usually from 5.30am or 6am. I love you video. SUBSCRIBED✅☑️
If making it little less tireding, divide the total study time by 3 i.e, 45 min work = 15 min break, 60 min work = 20 min break....it is quite optimum and don't forget to take a long 30 minute break after stuyding like for 2 to 2.5 hr, (not counting the breaks in between)
Hey archer! When do you think you will be uploading that mind mapping video. I'm a year 11 student and I really want to start implementing it into my study techniques so I can try to master it by year 12. Thanks.
Hey Lewis! I'm still working on it so don't have a date for upload yet. In my study livestreams I do mindmapping so you're welcome to join those and ask any questions until the video is uploaded :)
How would you pair that up with task estimation? Pomodoro does get in the way of focus sometimes, but I like being able to break my work time into small fixed-sized chunks, which makes it easier to estimate tasks.
I have a question. When I have studied for an hour using the stopwatch, then had a break of 12 min, should I reset the timer or proceed with the one I started initially?
I like this idea but with the varying study durations, how will I know when to take a long break? In standard pomodoro, you usually take a longer break after 4 sessions. What about here? How can I determine when and how much should I take a longer break?
You can notice it by tracking your energy. If you notice your breaks getting longer and longer, you'll find the sweetspot that is optimised for your body when you want to take the break. Pomodoro again is really rigid, it is quite rare that the 'perfect longer break' always happens after 4 sessions.
I bought a stopwatch off of amazon. An easier setup is the best IMO. I dislike having to open a tab where I have to have my online timer and all that stuff. Instead of notion I use onenote and I have a little table with the stuff I want to write down such as intentions and time etc...But yeah this flowmodoro idea is way better than the pomodoro technique
Hi Archer, thanks for sharing this awesome technique! I was wondering, do you make a new copy of the sheet for each day, or just always use the same sheet and replace the values each day?
Hey Neilansh I have the link to my notion template in the description! - if you enter your start and finish time it calculates how long your break should be, i think i explain this from 6:19 onwards :)
Let me add something to it :- after studying like for 2 hours, don't forget to take a systemic break of 30 minute that is compulsory, this will make it less annoying
delete distractions, leave your phone somewhere else, unistall apps, leave social media, stop playing games and stop porn, exercise, cold showers, avoid sugars and eat healthy
Why is everyone talking about Ali Abdal like he's some amazing productivity genius? Yes, ha made the topic popular on RUclips but idolizing him just for that?
No way your technique isn't better than Pomodoro. It is simply another technique that serves another group of people. Some people need pomodoro to stay focused. Stop ragging on a technique you built on and just present your technique for the audience that needs it!!!! Ugh!!!
Nope you are wrong he talking about using pomodoro in studying which is not quite great because its very arbitrary, whereas flowmodoro is based on your focus and not specifically on fixed amount of time spent
With flowmodoro and active breaks you can get more task done as compared to pomodoro because you are optimising breaks and time taken to regain you peak focus also become shorter based upon research

My problem as well. Though I found this a year later, I hope it will help me.
@@kranthikumar-mj5djI know this is late but did it help?

That's awesome to hear! Flowmodoro is definitely so much better for staying in the flow state, glad it helps and thanks for the sub :)

Thanks for the video ☺️
i used it for one week and it was pretty much good
yep! definitely a useful technique :)

Thanks man! this is very helpful. Haven't been to school in about 3 years so I'm kinda nervous but this gave me some confidence :)
Glad I could help! Good luck! :)

My favourite Archer Newton video!!
Thank you Mithil! Appreciate it ☺️
Hi, Archer love the vids!
Hey, thanks so much :)
Thank you for this! Very useful!
Glad to hear!
USED your flow-time Log & flowmodoro
God bless thanks for helping out a lot of students!
glad it helps! 🔥

Thank you for your flowmodoro template.
Beautifully explained!! Thank you!!
thank you so much!!
it is very helpful and very informative this is just the video I was searching for. thanks a lot
so glad to hear, thank you!
Thank you!
Hmm. I’ll try this method. I’m having issues with pomodoro disrupting my flow
Cool, I might make something to track this better!
Omg, sooooooo helpful thankyou😊. after this video no more for pomodoro 😁
glad it helps! 😊
Great video, as always x
thank youuu😍
Thanks, just got like 2 hrs of work done in one session without and distractions, only 2 breaks
The video is very helpful thank you so much ❤ the information was so good 😊
happy to hear! 😊
What do you recommend doing during those breaks so that the flow isn't interrupted? Great vid btw!
I have a question. When I have studied for an hour using the stopwatch, then had a break of 12 min, should I reset the timer or proceed with the one I started initially?
it's probably better to reset it because then it's easier to calculate your next break :)

Hi Archer, thanks for sharing this awesome technique! I was wondering, do you make a new copy of the sheet for each day, or just always use the same sheet and replace the values each day?
While I find pomodoro inefficient, I believe this is a better alternative. Keep up ;)

Thanks @@ArcherNewton that really helped, I am so excited to see how productive this technique is.
Hey Archer! Would you recommend studying with music?
Hi! I actually made a video on this if you want to check it out :)

You can tailor your pomodoro to your personal needs though?
Learning how to learn
that's the name of the game :)
How do you know when to take longer break? In pomodoro, we do 3 study periods with the breaks, then do a longer 30 minute break
As soon as you realise you're starting to tire after multiple cycles and your flowmodoro sessions have just become smaller and smaller.
my productivity is so low! and 25 min pomodorro doesn't work for me, coz it just don't build the momentum! Hope this will help!
Dude my focus breaks ever 10 seconds! What should I do?
delete distractions, leave your phone somewhere else, unistall apps, leave social media, stop playing games and stop porn, exercise, cold showers, avoid sugars and eat healthy
Delete RUclips
great stuff. the background musak is really unnecessary

i was using this(your method) but stopped doing it thinking that the amount spent is not important than study techniques!!!!!!!!!!!
My understanding of how to pronounce Csikszentmihalyi is: cheeks-sent-me-high.

better use this than pomodoro
