    In optical fiber mode theory, the transverse electric (TE) mode refers to a particular pattern of light propagation in which the electric field component of the light is perpendicular to the axis of the fiber. In a TE mode, the light travels in the fiber with no magnetic field component along the axis of the fiber. TE modes are used in many fiber optic communication systems, as they often have lower loss and dispersion compared to other modes. The number and properties of the TE modes in a fiber depend on the fiber's dimensions and the wavelength of light being transmitted.
