Been watching so many videos talking about this subject as I just got my first cinema camera. Everyone saying the same thing to adjust focus and then not move. Thanks for all the extra tips!! Really useful information 🙌🏼
I watch videos like these since my lens autofocus is broken lol. But I'm glad videographers still use manual focus as their main techniques!. Good video !
Man! This video is so good. Aside from the technical tips, you seasoned it with inspiration, encouragement, and humor! I will look forward to your next videos from now on!
Hey Dustin. I've watched a few videos on focus and found yours really helpful. Good to know you go in and out of focus too (and just clip the good stuff). Thanks!
I'm glad you did! I tried my best to give tips that people haven't. Oh totally it's pretty normal unless your job is a 1st AC and literally all you do is pull focus as your job. No problem! Thank you for watching🙏
Awesome video. I find that if you look to use manual focus first, the autofocus can be a good "better alternative" in certain situation. Depending upon your camera, of course. I have the Sony a6400, and so, face and eye detection, and object tracking are all really pretty awesome, but still, manual is my "go to" all the time, first. I agree with you. Trust your brain before you trust the camera. And amen to "keep learning". Thanks for the great work.
Heyy really really good video. I really want to know that while shooting events ; where there are fast unpredictable movements for example: music festivals, how could one use manual focus?
I’m glad thank you for watching! Yes actually there’s a way to add a REC709 lut. There’s a setting called “Gamma Display Assist” turn that to auto or select SLOG2 to REC709 and it’ll apply the lut to make it easier to focus 🙏
Hey Dustin this was a great video...I am still abit unsure, how to I get into Manual mode using the Sony A6600? And does manual focus work on prime lenses? For video
Hey dustin do you have any recommendation for a focus wheel for the S1H I want to fit it to a kondor blue cage (and maybe also the ultimate version too, I use both)
Thanks, would it be possible to explain how you got the colour lights bacground (ruclips.net/video/-dHuolkwvq8/видео.html) how did you position your lights what lights etc? Also what lens and setting did you use for the video and how far were you from the camera? Thanks
I need help. I got a samyang lens for my canon 60d and all I need is the beep or the red dot that lights up in the middle to tell me it's in focus. That's all I want :'(
@@DustinArmstrongPro No it's fine. I just thought lenses wouldn't get rid of that feature. I thought the camera would let you know whether the image is in focus no matter what the lens. I asked on a discord group and they said the same. Should've asked before buying but I really didn't expect this.
You have the true intention of teaching others. Nothing unnecessary showoff in this video. I like it.
You are very kind appreciate the support 🙏

Very helpful thank you, new Sub here. I just got my hands un two MEIKE cine and a manual follow focus for my GH5m2, time to start manual focusing 🧘
It's not too bad. AF is definitely more convenient though
Well done! Good clarity, plenty of good information, and engaging
Glad you found it helpful!

Agreed. Appreciate the support and the watch🙏
Dude this was great and more chill than other focus video's' subbed
Appreciate the support 🙏
I like monochrome live view combined with peaking. It means only the stuff in color is in focus and it is awesome even though I suck at manual focus 😂
Superb. This guy is a gem. Kudos
You are a gem
This is so good, I had to leave an instant subscription. Awesome tips, Sir, very much appreciated.
Thank you🙏 I'm happy you found it helpful!

Very useful, subbed!
Appreciate it🙏
awesome advise, thanks bro!
No problem!
Hi Dustin. just found you yt channel, really nice videos man, cheers from portugal
Hey thank you! Super glad you think so. Happy filming🙏
Hey Dustin, another great video, did they add the punch in during recording feature you mention ?
Thank you! I don't believe they did, although I think I may have been confused. Someone in the comments I remember explained what it meant I believe
You have earned a new subscriber 🙌🏾 💯
You are the what I like to call the real MVP
Been enjoying your vids... very helpful and informative.
And I enjoy you being here🙏
thanks for the video Dustin. This was very helpful.

I also have the S1H, nice video, you have gained a subscriber:)
Welcome! Thank you!
Good tips

Yes. In the function menu I believe is where you can switch it to manual if the lens itself doesn’t have a manual switch
@@DustinArmstrongPro found it thanks mate
- love your channel! I have an S1H as well - I just wouldn't use it beyond 24mm with IBIS. See 7:37
Thank you! I know sometimes I am too lazy to turn it off for 1 shot hahahaha
Hey dustin do you have any recommendation for a focus wheel for the S1H
I want to fit it to a kondor blue cage (and maybe also the ultimate version too, I use both)
I do not sorry
It'd be hilarious if this entire video was slightly out of focus.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was since I shot it on autofocus with the S1H
Wow how do you have so few subscribers.
It's a marathon, not a spring😉
Yuh

Making a video with low light is a problem... depth of field reduce when aperture set to lower number..
I need help. I got a samyang lens for my canon 60d and all I need is the beep or the red dot that lights up in the middle to tell me it's in focus. That's all I want :'(
I'm not super familiar with Canon cameras but it seems like maybe that only works with native lenses maybe? I could be totally wrong though
@@DustinArmstrongPro so like only canon lenses right?
Correct. I'm only guessing though and could be completely wrong. Sorry I'm not much help
@@DustinArmstrongPro No it's fine. I just thought lenses wouldn't get rid of that feature. I thought the camera would let you know whether the image is in focus no matter what the lens. I asked on a discord group and they said the same. Should've asked before buying but I really didn't expect this.
Ah that sucks. That happens man. Sorry to hear that
