First story: My mom got a job as a computer engineer in the late 70s. On her first day someone saw her and said, "I could use a cup of coffee." She replied, "oh, if you're getting a cup could you grab one for me too?"
First story: Good one... the ski trip to me is background detail. Makes it so that it's like... CEO is one of the group which is a detail in the story. Many times CEO is Ivory Tower and no one would know the story. She is great with her MC. Agree on 2nd especially. Lots of good MC here. Good going all OPs Thanks to all OPs and KCC for this storytime
Why is it companies always seem to promote everyone except the people crucial to their mission, and are then shocked when they quit? Also, I cringed when I read they wanted the patient monitors to leave the COVID patients every two hours and go someplace else. Infection control wise I suppose it was to limit their exposure, but as OP suggested it just exposes more people. Who wrote these guidelines? Ridiculous! They should probably stay with the COVID patients the whole shift, and then do a testing and quarantine regimen.
First story reminds me about the General Counsel at my job when I started there. Aside from the problem in the story concerning the assumption of gender of someone in such a position of power, she had not only a given name generally thought of as male but spelled in the most common male manner. We always had great laughs about stuff addressed to her as 'Mr.'
The first story, since it was mentioned for Mr. Johnson or Mr. C Johnson, I can't get my it out of my head Cave Johnson from Portal 2, I think it was a missed opportunity to put in Portal References or something like that
Story 1: I think the story was perfect the way it was written...it included all the information OP wanted to disseminate which made the story complete. Good Job OP! Story 2: OP did the correct thing. Since the NM wrote her up for following the 2 hour COVID protocol and changed it to Stay Until Discharged...that is what should be followed.
Half the Covid protocols people enact doesn't make sense. For instance, my old job put a guy who just found a dead body on Covid duty at the beginning of COVID.
About the first story-it’s not hard to throw together and post a story at all. Making it interesting and understandable is a whole ‘nother proposition.
S 1 The ski trip + "changing in the car park itself" + former CEO and newest recruit both were on the trip = informal organisation that values work and results more than hierarchy and strict procedure
I honestly don't get why managers tend to screw over their best producing employees. Seriously, of the employees that get messed with end up finding a job days or a few weeks later, meaning that they had marketable skills and yet the manager, instead of praising that employee craps on them. I'm a bit biased on this one, had something similar happen to me. Co-worker got praise and raise, I got a meh and a bonus. Obviously I quit and had a job in a week and after three weeks after I left they called to ask me to "help" a new employee work in. I laughed, said, but I'm only a meh employee, why not ask the star, and hung up. Still floors me that employers do that stuff.
I always think, "Only THREE times what they were paid before??!! Nope. Nope. Nope." Self-employment tax, to my dismay, is somewhere between 50-60%. Yeah, truly sucks. Whereas, because the employer legally must offset some your taxes, payroll tax is somewhere between 25-33%. And that doesn't even count workers comp payments, unemployment payments, and higher health insurance premium, really really high if it's you or you with 1 partner. The more employees, the lower the premiums plus employees pay part. And you have to cover building, equipment, supplies, etc required to do the job. You need to bill at least close to what a top notch company would charge because even a top-notch company's employee would have to learn from scratch (more billable hours) than you. Picky, I know, but when in my 20s, like so many newly self-employed workers, I thought double or even triple my former wages sounded great. Ugh
KCC, actually as long as you have company property( at least here in North Carolina) they can withhold your paycheck till its received, once received they then have to release it either directly into your custody or thru approved method(usually direct deposit or what method the company uses for final checks)
Third story: "It's obvious I'm being managed out." Well, what did you expect? You can only survive making yourself an obstacle if you're irreplaceable for some reason.
These glorious tales of quitting with style remind me of my co-op internship. It was a crappy unpaid position with a shady penny-pincher of a boss. Near the end he had me putting together a new computer, but power supply was DOA. Replacement wouldn't be coming till after my term was done. Part of this term was he had to write a review on me. Soon as I brought it up, he immediately asked if I could come in after my term was done to help. It was obvious he was trying to hold the review over my head. Little did he know, I was already in contact with my college coordinator about the shady stuff he pulled. She agreed he was shady, and I wasn't obligated to go back. I was SO looking forward to tell him exactly where, and how hard, he could shove it. Sadly he never called. I can only assume he found someone else to use for free labour.
The ski trip may not actually add much to the story, but it gives context that shows that she isn’t just some faminazi with a vendetta against men, but actually a human that simply wants people to be correct.
Idk, I feel like I reread stuff I post and cut out irrelevant stuff pretty regularly. I don't get on people for writing with irrelevant details, though.
I call out my friends and family when they're overloading their stories with irrelevant details, but not in written stories. Typically when I'm calling them out it's when they're stopping in the middle of the story to try to remember something like the name of the restaurant where the story took place or the last name of the person they met on vacation.
Probably only European companies have woke leaders like that who will turn away business for using the wrong salutations. If I was one of the sender I would replace all the Mr with Comrade and resend the letter.

Why do managers and bosses always claim they hadn't been told employees were unhappy?

I just love your voice Rob! Makes me smile every time I hear it! ❤❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode!
Love your cadence as you tell the stories.
Glad you enjoyed it!

tbf its just nice to hear anything that could add context, even if minor
the story wasn't exactly that long, and cutting out the irrelevant stuff probably would have just ended up being boring

Somehow I'm in the top 3 trillion comments... Lol
So after a few years I wonder would more people say *THE VID* was more of a shell game or a global experiment?

"woke leaders" or maybe someone who just wants some decent respect.

Yes, to correct. As long as you're not being an identitarian snowflake about it.
