I’m so excited to see Kevin Young as BYU’s coach. Blown away by the hire! As much as I’d love to see the glass ceiling shattered of having a non LDS coach come to BYU, this is debatably the biggest coaching hire in cougar history and I couldn’t be more excited for next season.

Why do you want non lds coach? Byu just needs to put up the big money and it won’t be an issue

Mark Pope is committed to Mark Pope, (not BYU not Kentucky) He was in heaven hamming it up, clapping for himself at the UK Welcoming Press Conference. He loves the spotlight, loves his own humor, Glad Ainge and Ryan Smith helped get Kevin Young here… classy,

Pope did just flip Collin Chandler to Kentucky and that might just be the first. He probably knew he would blow up BYU even further after his departure. I am sure he didn't want to sound disingenuous about any statement when he's actively recruiting BYU's best players/recruits.

Pope transition was very revealing and quite frankly shocking to a lot of byu fans. From the outside in he came across like he was completely bought in on byu, loved the program, and was proud to be at such a “special place” as he referred to it so many times.
And now crickets? Basically just a “see ya suckas” on the way out. Very revealing to his character. I’m glad he’s gone.

Happy for the Cougs. I hope the x-fer portal boys return. But they need to do what's in their perceived interest. This new coach should take us deep into the future.

RE. Pope not addressing BYU nation since accepting the UK job. I'm sure the dude want to do something sincere and heartfelt. He could put out some lame press release but knowing Mark he'll want to come on here to give his thanks and goodbye or something like that. But the dude has the job 48 hours and with it being the portal/NIL era. he has 1 player on his roster for next year, no coaching staff. He's been literally working around the clock getting the infrastructure in place and trying to build a roster. He did a Coaches Call in show last night but has been turning down all other media so far cause he's got pressing needs! Having the greatest recruiter in the history of College basketball busy poaching all the UK players & recruits isn't an easy set of circumstances for a brand new coach.

You could be right, but we'll see. Most class coaches who leave will immediately show appreciation for their former school and fans. The longer he waits, the poorer reflection it is on him. BYU fans went beyond the norm in supporting him and this team. I wish Pope the best though I don't think he has proven himself as a top level coach and won't be surprised if he's gone from Kentucky in a few years. He lucked out getting the Kentucky job after several other top picks turned the job down. Regardless, it most likely sets back BYU, though I like the new coach hire.

Utah tried this approach of hiring an NBA assistant for basketball and it ruined the Basketball Program. Burgess was the man who should have been hired if nothing else than for his recruiting connections with current players and the club coaches. Gracious it is hard to watch BYU make decisions sometimes.

I don't concur with Mark re: Mark Pope. It seems evident that he's lost his humility and gratefulness. And I'm happy BYU has gone the direction with Young. I think the long term contract is what they needed with a young man who strikes me as an awesome fit. He will bring players who come to play for all the right reasons. Remember: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country."

Durrant:..."What it takes to be 'good"..." What in the world does that mean?? BYU can be great in spurts. It is infrequent. BYU is mostly mediocre. Is the program trying to get to a final four, or win an NCAA championship? Winning an NIT would be kind of nice. I've waited 47 years, and nothing seems to change. I thought with Rose it might happen? Nope... I was never truly sold on Pope. Can Mr. Young do it? History is not on his side. Give Durrant the game ball. The effusive and vague comments about the program are a trademark of the BYU.
