    I have had all sort of bikes from big touring bikes down to a scooter. A scooter experience is something you get or your don't. But if you open your mind to the scooter experience you realize it is unique among two wheel machines. On my scooter, it blends into the road and I am left to absorb all the sights and smells as if I am able to float above the pavement. It is hard to describe and you did a great job of it. Age, injury and no desire to ride the highways anymore may have me considering something like a Piaggio BV400. Thanks for your posts and keep them coming.

      It's difficult to describe the scooter experience but you've touched on the important points. Especially the idea that you have to be open to the experience. If not, then there will be no appreciation for it.
      I just returned from a 120 mile round trip ride to breakfast on my Kawasaki W650. I got behind schedule and had to jump on the Interstate highway for the last 30 miles. Cruising along at 75mph with all the cars and trucks just reinforced my disinterest in highway riding.
      A BV400 will propel you along on any road you choose save for some really rough off-road stretches with water crossings!

    I hope I’m allowed here because I don’t have a Vespa but a Honda ADV 350,but after years of riding large sports bikes I decided to get my first scooter because of how much of an all rounder they are and cheaper to own and I absolutely love it! At 55 years old I don’t want to ride around at 100+ mph but slow down and enjoy the scenery.
    So much of what you say resonates with me and you have such a calming tone and watching your videos are so chilled and relaxing.
    Also I can relate with cold weather riding as I’m from the UK .

    I recently sold my Goldwing and bought a Vespa 300 GTS Super. Now I'm having fun. I get more looks, inquires and praises at my various stops than with any of my previous 8 bikes. It's also such a smooth and quick way to get around town. Appreciate your videos sir! Mike Bee🎸 Mine is Red; the salesman said the red ones are faster. 😆

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  2 года назад +1

      I completely understand the experience. As much fun as a motorcycle can be, the GTS is so quick, nimble, and light that it’s a joy to ride around. Especially when moving from something big and heavy. While it’s not meant for the things a Goldwing can do, it can take you almost anywhere.
      And your dealer is correct - red is the fastest color!
      Have fun with your Vespa!

    Hi there, I am a totally new scooter rider having picked up a 26 year old 125cc Vespa ET4. I have never had or riden a motorcyle of any description before the Vespa. I have watched lots of video/youtube footage of scooter riding but your video was the first that I could actually relate to despite my lack of experiance. Being based in the UK we have lots of lovely small roads running through stunning old little villages and towns so the twist and go Vespa is perfect for cool rides out through the British countryside. At first I was a little tense having never riden before but now I am more relaxed and enjoying the ride. Can pop my camera in the back box, sandwiches and coffee in the front and just ride stopping to take photos. Great video and dialog, hope you are still enjoying the ride ! Cheers, Dave UK

    Good morning from the uk I think your riding philosophy is simply brilliant. I guess we adopt this attitude as we get a little older and hopefully wiser. Like you I have had a number of smaller and medium sized bikes over the years and I now believe that smaller and slower is the way to go. I am today going to have a look at my first scooter and I’m bursting at the seams with excitement. Hopefully I can get a test ride and order one to pick up next month. Looking forward to your further videos. Ride safe and thanks for the inspirational videos.

      I find there are two challenges to moving into the smaller and lighter kinds of scooters and motorcycles. I'm the first challenge -- adapting my mind to what going slower entails. And the second -- having the right roads to ride on. Anyplace where traffic is relentless makes having a machine that can't make the speed limit tough to deal with. I never feel comfortable having traffic lined up behind me. So I pull over a lot. But in places where the traffic never really stops it becomes almost impossible to ride something slow or slowly.
      Good luck with a new scooter. I still love mine. It's an amazing machine.
      And thanks for the kind words about the videos I post. I appreciate them.

    Good Morning Steve, Great video as always! I've been busy getting my scooter and have finally gotten my new GTS 300 home. I have only ridden occasionally over the last 50 years so I am happy it has gone well so far. I've only got 50 miles or so on it now, mostly practicing slow speed maneuvering doing rectangles, figure 8s and emergency stops in a parking lot and exploring the speed ranges on the road. Going very well so far and getting comfortable with the scooter. Never had the chance to sit on a GTS 300 and glad to find that at 5'9" can easily flat foot it. Getting used to finding the turn signal without looking and trying to remember to shut it off. I got a 3/4 helmet for now as I wanted as much feedback as possible in the beginning phase here and will likely go to a full face as the weather gets colder (Northern boarder of NY). I picked up a summer weight riding jacket at the dealer where I could try the jacket on and I'm amazed how much airflow it provides while still having good protection. Not at all hot even doing the slow speed stuff. I was a little concerned about that as I used to have a leather jacket for riding and didn't like how warm it was... but was glad I had it when I needed it. I've been watching a lot of training videos on slow speed maneuvering and gaining a lot of insight on handling. Resources like that were never available.... just kick it and go. Your videos have been inspirational and I loved each one and look forward to many more as I gain skills for todays road and traffic conditions. I pretty much share your perspective on things. I'm also a photographer like you and did a lot of aerial photography (to make a few dollars and be able to write off the airplane) and later did a youth sports photo business, so I'll be making lots of stops in the countryside for photos as you do. At least a couple of months of good weather ahead for this season and looking forward to every day! By the way, another great solo activity during Covid! Thanks again for your videos and encouraging words. Rich

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  2 года назад +2

      Thank you for the kind words about the video Rich.
      It's a good thing to practice. Especially things like slow speed maneuvers and emergency braking. I would add swerving as well. You've reminded me that I should take the Himalayan out on an empty parking lot and do some work.
      The gear available now is pretty amazing. I bought a KLIM summer riding jacket and like you say, it's amazing how cool it is even on a hot day. And my winter gear is just as capable of keeping me warm. A full face helmet has always been on my head. I saw too many crash videos of helmet-less or less than full face helmeted riders bang, bash, and grin their heads, chins, and faces on pavement. And not to mention all the times I've had a rock or bird strike my helmet. We each make our own choices in regard to managing safety. I tend to lean towards over managing gear. But that's where I'm comfortable.
      I've always wanted a leather jacket. I've actually had Revzilla send me a couple but I didn't like them and sent them back. I'm still looking though.
      Photography took on new meaning for me when I started shooting riding pictures. I hesitated carrying any serious gear along but the advances of cameras like my Canon G5X allow me to make some serious images. Now that I'm making videos more than blogging I find I shoot fewer still images. I've not found a good balance yet. And riding feels more complicated making videos. I'm going to have to deal with that.
      Good luck with your new GTS300 and the explorations it provides for you and your camera. The world out there is pretty amazing when I take the time to stop and look.

      I understand completely. Old motorcycles, like old cars, can look pretty cool. But compared to modern vehicles, they can be pretty rough. My best experience has to do with a 1970 VW Campmobile. I learned to drive in one and took my driver's test in it. I remember it as being a tight handling vehicle. Fast forward 40 years and I see one for sell in great condition. I take it for a test ride and it's horrible. The brakes are bad, the steering sloppy. Modern vehicles have changed my perception of what's acceptable. It's why I don't like riding vintage two-stroke scooters.

Since this video had shots in Millheim, I was able to look on my Calimoto tracks and on my Pennsylvania atlas that I mark up all the places I have ridden. I have ridded right past that place more than once. I frequently head west from Bloomsburg out to routes 35, 45, 192, 880 or out to 64 to just explore the countryside. What a beautiful place it is in which we are lucky enough to live. If you find yourself in Richfield or Seven Stars you need to stop at the County Line diner. I rode by there several times noting the crowded parking lot before I made it a point to stop there for lunch. I highly recommend it.

      You and I have ridden in the same neck of the woods. I've ridden all the routes you listed. Often they have a lot of traffic so I'll seek the secondary roads that sort of meander along the same routes.
      I've ridden through Richfield many times but never stopped for lunch at the County Line diner. I'll make it a point for next time I pass that way.

    I don't have a Vespa, but I am thinking of changing my old beat up Kymco 250 for gts 300.. Maybe even new one. I have 10 years of motorcycles, big and heavy ones mostly. Then had 5 years pause and after that tried motorcycles again but it was very different experience from years ago. May be I am just different and bought a used Kymco .. Never been so relaxed and I am riding with a smile with in the speed limits every time.

    • @ScooterintheSticks

      The GTS 300 is a fine ride. And a breath of fresh air after riding a big, heavy machine. My own GTS is getting older and I suspect at some point soon I may have to replace it. A new one would be nice but man oh man they're expensive.
      The smile you talk about while riding your Kymco will likely transfer to the Vespa. It's pure fun!

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  Год назад +2

      I haven't ridden one of the Super Cubs but I've sat on one and looked it over. I'm certain I would enjoy riding one but I would probably opt for the Honda CT125 considering how close I am to lots of mountain roads and trails.
      The modern Vespa scooters are super smooth and powerful. They accelerate fast and everything responds smoothly. I think you would find the difference between the Super Cub and a Vespa dramatically different. But still in that relaxing realm.
      Definitely worth a test ride if you ever have the chance. I bet a Vespa owner would love to try your Super Cub. You just need to find someone!

      I use GoPro Hero 8 cameras. One on the front of the helmet and one on the bars. Usually. In this video I was using an Insta360 camera mounted on the front mirror. Because of how it captures footage I can choose to view forward on the road or back towards me.
      I plan to make a video explaining what I use and how I use it.
      I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

    Scooters are the mountain goats of road vehicles. It won't cost you a ton of gas money to climb mountains that ordinary cars avoid because it's impractical. That is where the best views often are. Lighter weight vehicles are easier to manage and can turn on a dime. I wish they had a larger range of gearing like an old school Honda Trail with hi-lo, but I'd rather have underseat storage than larger gear ratios anyway. :)

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  2 года назад +1

      My Vespa has certainly done its share of mountain goat work. And it has taken a beating for it, sometimes leaving me thinking I was going to break the suspension as I banged hard over rocky paths. And since we have so many of them that's why I bought the Himalayan to manage those roads and leave the Vespa for the pavement.
      I'm all about lighter vehicles these days for the reasons you indicate. And it's less likely to break my bones if it falls on me!
      Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. And for giving me an idea for a video title -- The Vespa Mountain Goat!

      I've ridden two classic Vespa scooters with two-stroke engines. One was a more modern PX 150 I think. They were kind of cool but the noise, smell, and general feel of them just weren't my cup of tea. I know many love them but I want something more subdued!

      @@ScooterintheSticks That's exactly what I have, a GTS 300 and a PX150. Which one I'll ride today depends on the mood. Motorcycles is not my thing, so PX take this role of something mechanical.

    Need advise . thinking about trading my piaggio mp3 500 2019 13000 ml on it large top case on it . For Vespa 300 gts hpe 2022 on showroom in blue tan seat . Reason is scooter tech in USA don't like to work on the 3 wheels scooters ? I totally depend on repair shops for scooter repair . The 2 wheels Vespa is more welcome in repair shops ? Very hard choice for me ? They go only 1 in stock now new . Vespa gts 300 hpe . Feel like about to trade apple for lemon ?

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  2 года назад

      I understand your service concerns with the MP3. I've heard others express apprehension concerning whether technicians, while easily able to service the engine, tires, brakes, etc, may be completely unfamiliar with the complex array of sensors in the front end. It would be the reason why I would not purchase an MP3.
      The new HPE GTS scooters are reliable despite owner concerns about oil usage and other things unique to the high performance engine. I would not hesitate now to buy one. There is a shortage of them in the showrooms where I am and I would be patient and wait until one became available that I actually like the color and model. Easy for me to say though because I have other scooters and a motorcycle to ride while I wait.
      Not sure any of this will help. Good luck on your puzzle with the MP3 and a new HPE.

    I do like some of your uploads & info on your experience riding a Vespa scooter. It was somewhat frustrating for me however as you always just referred to your Vespa as a "GTS". You have never once stated whether it was a GTS 125, 150, 200, 250 or 300. Even in this video you specified that your friend was riding a Primavera 150, not just a Primavera of undisclosed size.
    You once again just stated in this video that you ride a GTS but don't specify the size. I have since figured out or come to the conclusion that it is most likely a 300 based on your description of speed capabilities but it could well be a 200 or 250. Perhaps it would be clearer for your viewers if you stated/specified the size of your GTS in future videos for those not familiar with Vespa & looking to purchase one. Cheers.

    • @ScooterintheSticks
      @ScooterintheSticks  2 года назад

      I apologize for my lapse. I've been riding it so long that I just refer to it as "The Vespa." It was a stretch to add GTS to the mix. I've ridden a number of GTS models, 250 and 300, and aside from feature differences, the riding experience is more or less identical to me. I've not ridden the new HPE models but I would be surprised if they felt a whole lot different to ride.
      Moving forward, I'll try and remember to call out somewhere that I'm riding a Vespa 250ie.
      As far as purchasing a Vespa GTS, I don't think you'll go wrong with anyone from the 250 through the 300s. There will be endless feature differences from traction control and ABS to digital dashes and LED lights. But the ride, what's important to me, will largely be the same.
      Again, sorry for the confusion.

    • @ScooterintheSticks

      I'm sorry you're experiencing such trouble. My friend Andy waited most of the summer to get his scooter back on the road but that was a combination of service backups, parts availability, and issues figuring out what was wrong.
      Piaggio had been notorious for the slow delivery of parts to dealers. I began to purchase the parts directly from suppliers and give them to the dealer rather than wait for Piaggio. You're probably in a warranty repair so the cost of ordering a part outside the system would fall on you.
      I wish I could offer something helpful but sadly, with Piaggio or pretty much any product, service seems slow for things considered non-essential. Automobiles, heating, plumbing, water, etc, that stuff tends to have far better service.
      Hopefully, once your electrical issues are sorted you will have some trouble-free riding. But man, it's frustrating. It's why I have more than one machine to ride!
