Did you know that there is a church in Arnhem with a scenic Kone-Starlift in it? It is the Eusebiuskerk, the big church in Arnhem. It's covered with scaffolding the restoration work has been going on for decades! The lift was built in 1994 but the fixtures have been replaced. Here's a link: eusebius.nl/en/ I wonder, Does the Kölner Dom have a lift? The towers are incredibly high, I've once seen some of the resotation of it on Quarks & Co but I can only remember seeing a temporary construction lift beeing used.
sadly, Kölner Dom doesn't have got any lift going up the tower. Its quite a challenge to climb up the stairs as there is just a spiral staircase and people walk both directions in the same staircase. Not many of those tall old church steeples have got an elevator. Ulmer Münster, the tallest one in the world, also doesn't have got any. In Hamburg, there are three churches with an elevator going up the steeple: St Jacobi (as shown), St Michaelis (Michel, a tourist destination) and also new St Nicolai. Old St Nicolai also has got an elevator - a scenic one - but since the rest of this church has been destroyed during WW2, only the tower remains as a landmark (now named: Mahnmal St Nikolai) and there are no bells in here anymore.
Diese aufzug sid cimlich lustig aus
Der erste Aufzug scheint wohl erst 2004 beim Umbau die Innentüren erhalten zu haben.
The elevator drives between the bells
it actually does. Its was a pretty nice experience. You can even feel them ringing, these bells are very big and heavy.
