    I’m sure someone has mentioned it but the ECU was taken because it was probably bench unlocked. On the G80-82 the ecu needs to be sent out (to Europe I believe) so the old owner is likely planning on putting it into their new insurance replacement.

    A Mishimoto oil cooler is going to be way stronger than OEM. They make a skid plate too that protects the cooler from damage. Also, the reason the original owner likely kept the ECU is because you have to send the ECU out of the country to get it unlocked before you can tune it. That process is expensive and takes a good amount of time.

    Even if it was tuned would be worried about extreme engine damage. Not good no ecu usually means the original engine most likely blew up and they put a junk engine inside the car here is what you need to do.
    1. Check the engine mounts
    2. Check the bolts around the transmission

    He was most likely running a Femto unlocked ECU, and he pulled it to sell, or to use on his replacement G8X. There's still currently no one in the states that's able to unlock these ECU's, so you gotta pay $1-2k to ship them out for unlocking, plus whatever you pay for the tune on top. Lots of G8X guys also need and want backup ECU's, so they don't mess with their stock ones. Anyway, wish you luck and excited to watch this build. 🤙

  • @ckslts
    @ckslts 11 месяцев назад +11

    Looking forward to the end result on this build! The frozen paint is a bit of a pain, get a good ceramic coating on it as soon as you can and it will help with stains. As for the DME (ECU), assuming the previous owner is getting a replacement M4, they could have had a JB4 installed in the wrecked one and wanted to take the next step in the replacement car and snatched the DME out to send to FEMTO for unlock. The DME unlock is an expensive and time consuming process, so having a backup DME is not a bad idea. I hope you can find a used one, my understanding is that it is expensive to replace. Good luck!

    i find it incredible the amount of damage people do to their cars, especially new ones - something i must try and do is work out the ratio in the UK to the US, how many cars get wrecked like this - for starters i think we might be a tad more strict on what we consider insurance write offs, as UK cars are either repairable, no structural damage, parts only or dead - and bare in mind most of our roads are narrow country, faster speeds with twists and bends all over, with pretty bad weather, potholes and generally dreadful conditions so you'd think we'd have more wrecks than you, but it would seem not
    and it seems in the US, insurance write offs end up in the auctions ready for you guys, and having followed yourself, brothers and them Goonies for some time, i for one would have no issue buying a rebuilt car from you, your work is magic
    that BM is slightly on the trashed side, be an interesting one to watch, the red interior is very 1970's pimp mobile
    looks like someone beat the crap out the intake tube at front, oh what a surprise the ECU missing, hasn't Yuri got one to fit??

    When ever buying a vehicle from the auction, when modded, always make sure it is says RUN And DRIVE. Unless you're physically going there to see the vehicle you're looking at. I'm in the same boat right now with an Audi s5.

    I’m a certified inspector and I’ve know of insurance companies pulling the ECU to use that info against there customer to lessen the $ loss. Also seen owners remove them to keep the insurance companies from getting hold of info to be used against them.

    Nice Video!! Maybe you could make the headlights yellow, this looks very nice. And you have to convince Simeon and Elezar to get a BMW too. Maybe an f82 m4 or m2 g87/f87.

    This is amazing!! So exciting to see you tackling this build. The spec on this M4 is just stunning. I can never get myself to like that front bumper but still excited to see you working on this and brining it back to its original perfection. Just noticed the DME is missing, ugghh that’s going to be a painful buy.
    Best of luck bud.
