I can't understand why so many disruptive people simultaneously care about what other people think, be it other gangs, random people on the internet, etc. Yeah, everyone wants to be liked, but going a gang's bidding for peanuts and street-cred. is a bitch-role.
Hate the system? Game-it and take over, or destroy from within. That shows initiative!
Even if it's crime (tagging that isn't lazy, quality drug product, less messy robbery), if you have nothing to take pride in, what's the point?

And without the punishment. We know how to stop it but do we have the will to? Many times its generational but so may parents work crazy hours to provide a better life some kids just fall victim to ego... We have to convey the benefits of healthy lifestyles and paint pictures of these negative paths that they can feel. Set them up for wins by passing healthy hustle and game but keeping their ego's in check so they can get on the best paths to being their genuine selves.. so many kids stuck up-keeping an act that dosent serve them. When they really find what they are passionate about, have some wins under their belts and momentum in the right direction they can see the value in finding answers on their own.. if no one there to plant seeds to grow the cycle intensifies.. These parents need guidance too.. Unfortunately I had to quit this job after 5 years because its hard to pay the bills and I have kids to care for of my own. Was good at what I did and loved it..now I sell cars smh...

@SHAKRA OPERA quit blaming whites... You say don't point fingers. but that's exactly what YOU are doing! People that join gangs are just looking for easy money and they don't want to have to work for it, that is their choice! Lots of people from every nationality and color go out every day, work hard and earn and an honest living... then you have the gang bangers that want what those people have, and they just take it, without regard to anybody but themselves... they are just selfish blights on society! They get this way because most of them drop out of school at a young age, and never made a choice to learn anything while they were there, so they have no diploma and no skills. That's where the problems starts! I'm not saying that of any color or nationality either, because gangs come in all colors and nationalities too! So I say the only ones to blame are the people in the gangs! You can only control yourself... nobody else! We have choices all day long... do it... or don't, right or wrong... They choose wrong, and white folks don't make those choices for them!

Yup. And now they move section 8 tenants into nicer middle class neighborhoods to try and “eliminate discrimination/gentrification” (or so they say) and you can only imagine how that turns out… It probably does the exact opposite when the tenants are not respectful of the neighbors.
My mother in law moved far from a predominantly middle class hispanic/white part of town after a section 8 tenant moved in next door and caused numerous disturbances and had no regard for her neighbors - and why would they? They don’t own the house and they barely have to pay anything to live there.
It’s sad but the government doesn’t have anyone’s best interest at heart… And anyone who is “okay” staying dependent on the government is only being incentivized to never improve their life because the government will do it all for them.

If a child is under your roof that child development and direction is the parents responsibility. I know the case can be made for poverty, lack of resources, lack of jobs etc. and so forth but before you come for me and my opinion check what the parents or parent was doing to protect progeny and provide for the child that succumbed to the street life. But let's not forget homegrown gangs like Hilltop Crips in Tacoma ran Rollin 60's from South Central (who moved here for lucrative drug sells) off the hilltop and they couldn't sell without HTC permission. We still have some major factors up here but I would agree overall it is nothing like L.A. county gangs. But unlike most of the country who were influenced by L.A. gangster movies. Gangs in this region were formed by actual L.A. bangers who moved here which gives them a certain level of authenticity with similar gang politics.

The mentality of many kids towards the teenage years that i grew in the late 90's with, lived much more wreckless into adult hood because they already assume that they have no future, COLOR OR RACE IS NOT RESTRICTED, we were all willing to die to have some kind "future" or having fun while we can OR being accepted, in essence, we all felt like "outcasts" to everyone else except the people we were with, or related in the same type of situation. So the resentment kind grew towards everyone, and we overcame that by creating or thinking we have "power" that is the problem. A bunch of kamikaze kids . This is society in poverty where youth see all the nice things they wish they had, and it all stems from when they are really YOUNG and not even adults yet! And we all know the rebellious phase of teenagers, but this is much worse because the minds are already set that they "think" they can't make it in normal society.
The HUMAN NATURE is to not want to fail. Nobody wants to fail. People tend to gravitate towards what they "think" they know they can do best, in order to make it through life. The people that are stuck in such a phase cannot adapt and so the "hatred" or whatever the hell it is that they have, in their hearts, grow much stronger which gives them power to do what they do! There are people that have this raw emotion and mentality and then there are people that want to follow this type of thing.
Its crazy because when i look back when we were really young kids, we were just simple minded kids having fun, playing outside, playing tag, running around the parks and playing in the arcades. innocent and everything. But everything started to change towards the teenage years into adulthood though...id say about 95% of the kids i grew up with in seattle now are either dead, in prison or on the run. The other 5% are pretty damn successful or actually at peace and content, even extremely friendly, loving to strangers and every being on this damn planet because they understand the hate they had in their hearts were just plain emotions without any guidance. A heart without a brain. Im grateful to just even be able to understand that in the end, we are all human's. Understanding enough that this type of "culture" or "gangland" as they call it, could be any single human being if given any circumstance, to grow up in this type of environment from a young age without any sort of guidance other than vanity itself. But of course, there are so many factor's, people could blame the kids upbringing, although plays a big factor, is just a small factor in a such a huge world where random events happen all the damn time.

when you don't expect to live past 25 and/or see no options to make it out of poverty by walking the straight and narrow, the only other option that appeals to you is living fast and dying young. Maybe if we worked on lifting people out of poverty by providing decent paying jobs, affordable housing etc. it would help. Instead, we just get more of the same. I've lived on Casino ave and it was no joke. I'd walk from my apartment to the corner store and would regularly see drug dealers, gang bangers, & prostitutes hanging outside and unlike what most assume, they'd be friendly to you if you were a local "civilian". However, bullets don't have names on them and I heard gunshots in the area on many occasions. From what I gathered from the short conversations I had going in/out of the store was they saw no other options to make money or felt they were destined for a short life anyhow. THAT is the way to solving this problem and always has been. Gangs have been a problem here since the 90's The only thing thats changed that I can see is in the 90's it was easy to tell who was in what gang and what area "belonged" to what gang. For the most part they'd leave you alone if you weren't wearing colors, but again stray bullets don't care.

It always amazing to me how people act surprised when someone close to them is killed when that same said person lived so reckless.. one day they making songs about how they killed someone but yet when that day comes for them their family is on the news talking how innocent and sweet their baby was. No mam, your son was a menace to the community and you knew it. In many cases the parents and the whole family know and support the non-sense.
Im not saying don’t be sad, but what I am saying is don’t act as if it wasn’t bound to happen when your child is in these streets living reckless.
Black culture needs a whole damn reset!

Seattle has turned into one of the worst places in America. The city's politics are so anti-American it is insane. Crime is encouraged, drug use is promoted and supported by local government, police are hated and even attacked, the homeless are everywhere, firefighters and police cannot even go to certain areas for fear of being shot. I lived in Seattle from the late 1970s til 2004 and it was not great then but much worse now. You would think at least some people would teach their children ethics, morals, integrity so that they can break the cycle but that will not happen with the type of people living in Seattle. Truly a bad place.

Defund the police and refuse to prosecute gives rise to gangs. It's an expected consequence. It's only a matter of time that they will become more sophisticated which can involve extortion of small businesses for "protection" money.
