Jason, the Meta-4 leans toward the mild side. Wonderfully efficient. Certainly not a highly aggressive razor, but it is smooth and efficient. As you know, I like mild razors and this one is in my wheelhouse.
@@MarkSzorady on my four days I work in a row doing 12 hour shifts I like having just a one pass shave that’s efficient and then I have to get out the door and hit the road running to get to work, and my time is pressed in between shifts, this seems like a great razor for that kinda scenario! @@thebigo77creeker My pleasure.:) For me, the first pass usually results in a socially acceptable shave much in the way you describe it. Again, for me, this razor offers this. I'd like to think that many will fall into the same category but, obviously, YMMV. :)
Hi Mark! This is a wonderful time to be doing the traditional wet shave. So many new products to try out and experiment with. So many razors out there and blades, so many soaps and brushes. You could easily spend 50+ years doing the wet shave and still have a long way to go to try new products in terms of hardware and software. I chuckle when a dre people load PAA for 20 seconds. In swirl it about 5 times and have more than enough for a 3 pass head and neck shave and still have enough to feed the drain. That stuff is awesome.
Anthony, I agree. it is awesome.) And yes, my apologies...I'm guilty of sometimes over swirling PAA CK-6.:) I guess I get caught up in the process. Simply love it.:)

Ohhh boyy. Another new PAA razor release im going to have to buy! Have a couple shaves with the Ascension select under my belt and its very efficient even on its tightest setting. This thing looks awesome for less stubble and a more mild shave! That head is classy

I got this razor a week ago and haven’t shaved with anything else since. Most comfortable shaving razor I own. Funny, I put the red tip on this one and the purple tip on my Ascension Select. Great video Mark, Cheers!

I am really shocked, I have many razors from $500 to $29 and I can honestly say the Meta-4 is my absolute #1 regardless of price! I used an old Astra, the Meta-4, Zingari The Merchant and had the best shave I have ever had… I can’t even imagine the Meta-4 with a new Nacet, Wizamet, Derby Green or TREET blade - Doug hit this one out of the park! This razor is inexpensive, made to extremely precise tolerances, covers the blade tabs, has fluting that helps disperse the lather, is easy to clean, has perfect grip, no blade feel (I HATE blade feel) yet shaves as efficiently as the RazoRock MJ-90A and my Timeless .95, an unreal shaver for me! Great video!
Well the stars have aligned! I was hesitant about this razor because the top cap seemed thin and I was concerned about its sturdiness (nothing against PAA). But then I watched this video this morning and then 2 hours later someone sells theirs on FB complete with (now sold out) purple and red knobs to boot!! Can’t wait to try it out!

I received the Meta4 earlier this week and have shaved with it once and I think I need to spend more time with it. The angle seemed a little tricky to find. I wish it had just a little more blade feel. Also going to try some different blades that might change how it shaves for me.

Constructive feedback section: The music is a good idea, in theory. I've wondered, myself, how it would work out in a shaving video. Now that it's here, though, I find it kinda distracting. Thought I'd get used to it but that doesn't seem to be happening. I don't dislike the selections, it's just that a soundtrack makes it harder to focus on your commentary, which is the highlight. I wonder if you'd consider putting it to a vote, eventually :). This razor seems pretty cool. Currently have my eye on the new ascension though, when it gets back in stock. It will be my first phoenix razor and my first trial with an open comb of any kind.

Awesome video as always Mark!!!! Have you tried the Leaf razor? It's a nice hybrid between a cartridge and a DE razor but uses snapped in half DE blades. And it's being reviewed as a mild yet efficient razor!!!!
Thank you, Wayne. The Leaf razor has certainly been on my radar for quite some time.:) Very interested in it, especially for head shaves. Many head shavers really like using the Leaf. Being mild, it'd be a good one for me.:)

Comparing the Meta-4 to the Ascension Select, what do you rate them on the Meiji scale?
Meiji is more compact, stout and has more heft. obviously, the Meiji has more adjustment range, but I've never fully engaged it. I'm happy using it at 5 and below. The Meta4 is terrific. the low profile razor head is a real plus especially for new wet shavers who, due to young age, etc., may only need a shave a couple times a week and only one pass. It really maneuvers well under the nose. the Ascension is a shaving adventure. Each shave is unique due to no labeling to tell you how little of great the blade gap has ben opened. Regardless, if kept within a range, it delivers a wonderful shave. the Copper Ascension is exceptional due to its heat retention. When run under some really hot tap water, it's like using a heated razor that Gillette has been touting. Even better because no batteries involved.

Just found this video. Nice shave! Just wondering, how does the Meta 4 compare to the Overlander in terms of efficiency and in terms of comfort? Also, which of the two is best suited for autopilot mode?
konap7, both razors are very good and offer similar shaves. For me, it really comes down to the material the razors are made from. The Meta 4 is Stainless Steel and the Overlander is Brass. I gotta tell ya, the brass feels denser and offers more heft even though there's only about 3 grams difference between the two. Maybe it's just my imagination, but the brass just feels different from the stainless steel. Both have a nostalgic look and really give off a yesteryear vibe. Difficult for me to choose one over the other. I guess it all comes down to whether you want a solid brass or sold stainless steel razor. Some wet shavers might find a difference in feel between brass and stainless. I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I will admit, the brass razor does feel different from the stainless. Is it more comfortable? Both are wonderfully comfortable, but perhaps the brass offers a bit softer feel. YMMV.

I finally picked up the Prismatic a few months ago. How does it compare? I’m a new viewer and don’t know if you have the Prismatic. I just purchased the Cu Ascension a couple of days ago and am looking forward to breaking it in.

Between these two razors which one you like the best. I’m debating between these to. Are you finding that either one of them are more efficient?
Between the Meta 4 and the Ascension? It's a tough call because the Ascension has that twist adjustability giving it an advantage in being able to dial in a bit more aggression if needed. I often thought which one would I take if I was traveling for a week. probably the Ascension due to that twist adjustability. But the Meta 4 is so darn smooth and efficient. But the Ascension gives me a variety of shaves. Also, I purchased the Ascension before the Meta 4.

Just seems odd that the adjustment works by loosing it and it doesn’t become too loose when shaving. But it’s definitely a nice looking razor. Dino, yes. There is an increased efficiency over the 34C, IHMO YMMV, obviously. I get a bit more blade feel than the 34C too. Plus, those channels really move the lather out of the way.

Does Phoenix make the same razor but a bit ith more aggressive head, (instead of this mild head?) My beard is on the coarse side.
If not, would Father razor blades work with this Meta-4 mild head to make it more aggressive?

Aluchi the Meta4 is mild,nodoubt.A feather will most likely add some more efficiency, but I'm not sure how much. You may want to give their Ascension Twist Adjustable razor a look. Just by giving the handle a little bit of a twist opens the blade gap and increases the aggression/efficiency. Orif you want something more precise, then an adjustable is a good option. If you want ot stick with a 3-piece razor, then give the Rockwell 6S (or less expensive 6C) a look. You're sure to find the level of aggression form the six plates that will suit your beard and skin type.
